What is wrong with this family- they feed us one lie after another. Perhaps, they are unable to face the reality that the Grandpa reckless actions caused the death of the child or just want to get rich dunning RCL for the money:
    1. They call the pool area baby play area although the CCTV video clearly shows the grandpa stood at the window next to the pool bar. We see adults at the counter and rows of pool chairs used  mostly by adults! Actually, I do not see too many children in the CCTV video.
    2. RCL placed a railing across the length of the wall of windows the creating an 18 inches buffer zone between the windows and the cruisers for their safety. Since the Grandpa lifted her over the railing and put her on the window ledge she was NO LONGER  in the area designated as safe for cruisers and especially babies. So she was not at the BABY PLAY area!  During my several cruises, I never seen cruisers climbing on or over the railing or placing children on the window ledge! Please let me know whether you have seen parents placing children there?
    3. Although he alleges that he was color blind, the video clearly shows him sticking his head and part of the torso OUTSIDE the window - he should know that window is open as he felt the breeze and did not feel the window pane present. As long as I live I did not met a person unable to determine whether window was open or close when they stick the head out of the window! It is not a color blindness but perhaps booze, opioids and other problems. For example, being totally reckless!
    4. What difference it makes whether or not the 18 months old child asked her Grandpa to put her on the window ledge? If she was in the Zoo and asked him to put her in the lion cage so she could pet him- should the Grandpa do it? He supposed to ensure that the environment he puts the child in is safe and window ledge is never a safe baby play area. There was a railing placed by RCL to keep cruisers from the very windows.
The family arguments are becoming silly lies contradicting the actual evidence. Also,  we are not going to abandon a common sense to justify this oxymoron's mistakes. The Grandpa is guilty of the negligent homicide and RCL does not seem to owe the family millions they seek.

Grandpa stuck his head out not once but twice before picking Chloe up. And then not just setting her on the railing, he lifted her over it and out onto what I'm assuming is the window ledge. If this goes to trial, this footage totally blows up their "Grandpa didn't know,  Grandpa couldn't tell, it's all Royal's fault defense."

Wow... he clearly bends over the railing and sticks his head out of the window before he lifted her up and over the railing... so much for his lie that he did not know the window was open.

So the family has had the video for some time.
They saw grandpa stick his head out the window, bend over, pickup up their child and drop her out the window.
Yet they defend him and then file against Royal. I suppose they must defend him until the lawsuit is over, then they can expel him from the family.
This is all and only about money.

My heart almost stopped watching that video. I honestly think the parents keep covering for him because they can’t believe a loved one would do something like that to a baby so they keep telling themselves it’s OK; it’s Royal’s fault. Sal would never hurt Chloe. However they really need to drop the lawsuit and get on with their lives. I imagine Royal would not be happy to give them money to make them go away when it’s clear Grandpa is culpable and made one bad move after another.
That said if they knew at all that he had a vision impairment that meant he couldn’t tell a window was open, why leave him in charge of her? Couldn’t one of the parents have stayed back as a second sitter while the other went to take care of whatever?

If that is indeed him, that video is quite damning.....especially the second camera view.   Both the man and child break the plane of the window.

I’ve seen a few references around the web to his age, along with (not so) subtle hints that it may be a factor.

50 isn’t old and senile.  Seriously, it’s not.

I just saw the CCTV video from PR. I was appalled to see the Grandpa almost hanging out of the window - and he claim he could not determine the window is open? As he said, he felt the breeze and could not feel the window pane. Also, how the 18 month child can be put on that narrow ledge without her safety being endangered? In addition, please look at the shot showing distance between the baluster and the window- the  distance seems to exceed the 18 month child ability to reach the window pane - she would fell either on the floor or outside for sure! By the way, does CCTV shows other cruisers placing their children, drinks and personal belonging on the ledge? It is a negligent homicide in more than one way!

The surveillance video from the ship was leaked and aired on a TV program in PR yesterday. It clearly shows him leaning over the railing and sticking his head out the open window before he leans over to pick up the child.     Also, per the local media (several sources), the prosecutors stated that there have not been any offers or negotiations for a plea bargain. The prosecutors said that a plea bargain has not even been considered yet, although this possibility has not been discarded.

So far the family blamed RCL, ship captain, entire Freedom of The Sea crew, Puerto Rican laws, and possible protectionism of the cruise line for the Grandpa reckless actions.
At the beginning they called open to all pool area, baby play area than picture the Grandpa as good IT worker fully capable of caring for the child. . Now, they picture the Grandpa as a senile (at age 51?) individual who has serious vision problems and is color blind! However, he should not place the toddler on the narrow ledge by the window as it is against the RCL policy and defies common sense. Just before the Grandpa trial, they say he has poor vision and is color blind. Even if he is color blind, he said during the CBS interview and on one more occasion that he could feel the breeze and was compelled to seek the glass panel but could not find- IT guy and an average person should suspect the window could be OPEN! Although he knew that something was not right but put Chloe on the wedge anyway! Than, he stated on one occasion  that he did not know where the kid disappeared until he saw her falling, falling and falling outside the window! So he could see, right!
What we hear about the accident, he appeared to be confused, unable to think clearly - was he drunk, over-medicated, or suffering not only from the color blindness but perhaps Alzheimer? Otherwise, he was totally reckless. Nobody knows better than his family about his health problems. If there were serious impairments, they should not leave him in charge of the 18 months child. In addition to the parents, they had two sets of grandparents on the ship.
I do not think RCL should pay them a dime! Thousands of toddlers are on the RCL cruises and they do not fall from the ship!

How many lies Baby Chloe family can perpetuate to get millions from Royal? Although the Wiegand family never claimed that grandpa had any medical condition that would impair his ability to provide care for the toddler, the grandpa in the recent CBS interview claimed he is color blind. He never mention his color blindness until his indictment. Had he be color blind, it should be in his medical records preceding the accident, drivers license and perhaps as an impairment in his IT job. At this point, it is hard to accept his claim of a sudden color blindness as he over and over testifies that he felt breeze and was compelled to try to touch a glass! He knew that something was wrong but still put the girl on the very narrow ledge. She had no chance to keep her balance and he admits to tripping, losing grip or letting one hand to go of her to seek for the window pane. Enough lies and we need justice for Chloe. Her grandpa was reckless and negligent - was he drunk, overdosed on opiates or else?

I took several RC cruises and no children fell out the windows. The window have green/blue tint and are not perfectly clean so baby Chloe grandpa should be easily able to identify closed and open windows as they are clearly identified even on the photos taken on the day of the accident. Was the grandpa drunk, overmedicated and medically impaired on the day of the accident? Normally, we do not have problem to identify open window at our house, work place or any place else. It appears that the grandpa was negligent placing 18 months baby on the window ledge at least his waist height. The 18 months baby is still wobbly can get injured falling inside the room and hitting her head on the table or chair. Unfortunately, she fell outside and the grandpa for unknown reasons could not grab her in time.
I am terribly sorry for her untimely death, but it seems to be a case of the grandpa negligence more than the Royal Caribbean fault. It is a responsibility of the child guardian to make secure his child. There are windows from floor to the ceiling in the Windjammer Café and solarium deck. They are closed on the child/adult level as far as I am concerned. However, some ships have Windjammer Café area window open for cruisers willing to dine al fresco. Again, Royal Caribbean tries to satisfy all cruisers and asks the cruisers to exercise caution to avoid accidents. Keeping eyes shut is not a good method, right?
Above all, I am appalled on the family shifting rapidly to capitalize on the girl' death. And as a prior cruiser, generally I am pleased with the services  RC provides. I am also concerned with the reckless cruisers climbing the walls and suing the RC which in the end will result in RC rising the cruise price for all of us. Let the baby Chloe rest in piece and let us nto allow greedy parents to capitalize on her death. The grandpa screwed up big way!
