I think with protocols it can be done, but how enjoyable will it be?  Vegas requiring masks around pools but not in, I walked away from a gambling table locally after being asked to adjust my mask the third time, I just get to thinking about the entire experience of dining, shows, casino, dancing, escape room, pools and beaches.....
Obviously it's been talked to death for over a year now, but I have serious concerns about what cruising will look like when it resumes, how much fun will it really be vs the costs and hassles associated with it and that's not even talking vaccination and testing, which I think are a given.
I mean Spring break 2022, Jan 2023?  I could still see mask mandates a year from now.  Worries me that things won't ever go back to being as free and fun as they used to be.  I get that change is constant for any part of life, but I'm already missing the good old days.

Meanwhile American Cruise Line is operating 6 of 13 ships now:
    https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/24811-american-cruise-lines-has-six-ships-back-in-service.html
And has plans for full fleet sailing this spring:
    https://www.travelweekly.com/Cruise-Travel/American-Cruise-Lines-US-ocean-cruises?ct=cruise
It's trick to license the ships under 200 passengers so they escape the CDC orders.
One ship has been sailing since March 13 and the sky hasn't fallen.
Proof again that ships can sail with protocols.
ACL has taken baby steps for us with their small ships and proven it can be done.  Time to step up to bigger ships.

Matt is correct - online reviews are usually pretty worthless.  People either seem to have an axe to grind and vent on their keyboards instead of calmly discussing any issues with fellow humans in a reasonable way, or....the other stuff we see online is clearly a paid promo piece of glowing PR.  i stayed on navigator in Feb of 2020 in a balcony with new carpet a few new other pieces (artwork, bed cover, couch, TV, etc) and yes, the cabins were not as brand flashy new as the cabins on Symphony which I cruised a year earlier, but were still fine and we had a great cruise.  I was really impressed with Navigator after being on several other Voyager class ships that had not been Amped.
Feels like ship cabins are something that gets talked about too much....99% of cabins are designed to be small, efficient little places where most people are not going to spend most of their time.  It's a place to hang up your clothes, shower and sleep right?  Can't compare them to an upscale hotel or condo where space is not at a premium in nearly the same way as a ship and it's much easier to put on a new coat of paint every year.

Here's a thought about cruising as it relates to the DeSantis EO.
What if the cruise lines adopt a CDC strategy?
You are not required to show proof of vaccination, but if you choose to then the following list of protocols don't apply to you.
For example, the CDC allows for international travel with these "recommendations and requirements" for unvaccinated and vaccinated:

Basically the CDC establishes one set of rules for unvaccinated, another set of rules for vaccinated.
Why couldn't the cruise lines offer the same?
Don't "require" proof of vaccination, but for anyone who does prove they are vaccinated then here are the rules for you.
In this manner they don't violate the DeSantis EO and they adopt an approach the CDC should be okay with since it is the CDC's approach to international travel.

Please stop discussing the nature of the virus, and/or opinions on the vaccine.
We're here to discuss cruises, not share personal opinions of what society should or should not do with treatment of either.

dr martini reacted to Matt in Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says NO to Vaccine Requirement for Cruise Lines sailing from Florida Ports
Actually, this EO seems to prevent businesses from deciding what they can do.
Directly from the EO: "Businesses in Florida are prohibited from requiring patrons or customers to provide any documentation certifying COVID-19 vaccination or post-transmission recovery to gain access to, entry upon, or service from the business."
So while the State wont allow government to require vaccines, it also prevents leaving it up to businesses to decide what they want to do.
I really get what DeSantis is trying to prevent, but saying businesses can't flies in the face of his other major objective of getting cruise ships going, which will likely require vaccines at least initially for adults.

I like the Mariner, it was my first Royal cruise. I’ve been on several Voyager and Freedom class ships after that cruise. My TA kept telling me to try an Oasis class ship but I resisted until finally trying out the Harmony and Symphony when they first came out.  They are probably my favorite ships in the fleet. I would not hesitate to go on the Mariner though if it was a good route.

Adventure is actually in St. Maarten right now, so maybe just canceling it’s Europe season knowing they werent going to bring it over there this year anyway?  I wonder how they decide which ship to start with as they have some other ships in the Bahamas already

This is all entirely outside the US, CDC has NO say in it.
If nothing else, they can sail, gather data, give it the CDC and say, "SEE, WE CAN $%#$%#$%# CRUISE SAFELY! NOW LIFT THE BAN!"

Her last established cruise is in April 2022.  Her first LAX cruise is in June 2022.
That leaves a fair amount of time unaccounted for.
That could be time to modify the ship and then go through the canal or it could be a repo around South America.
A lot of us are eagerly waiting to see what they do.

On one hand he cites public safety and only 9 ICU beds for COVID patients as the reason why ships should be banned forever but later he goes on to explain how great it is and how vibrant tourism is on the island which is currently packed with tourist not wearing masks.
Clearly seems to be of the opinion that the virus is only spread on cruise ships.  He must work for the CDC.
