SteveinSC reacted to Matt in RCCL Mattresses
Are the beds comfortable? Does broccoli taste good? Is that new movie any good? Is 11pm too late to stay up?
The answers are going to very subjective. Just because some say one thing doesn't mean that will be your experience.

I grew up poor, so I'm used to sleeping on bamboo beds without mattresses. Whatever mattresses Royal gives me will definitely be an upgrade from that.

SteveinSC reacted to Jill in Spring Break Cruises
It’s different cruising over spring break with your own kids. I don’t suggest it if it’s an adult only trip.
We’ve sailed Oasis twice over spring break with our kids. The first time they were 11 and 17. The second time 18 (her spring break) and 24 (working girl). Needless to say, we had more fun with our “adult” kids as we got them their own cabin across the hall.
Overall it was a full ship with lots of kids but never bothered me. For the most part pretty well behaved.
This past March we were on Freedom with 2 other couples. Groups of kids running around were beginning to get annoying.
From here on out I’m sticking with cruises after Easter and before Hurricane season (June) starts.

No, you will not regret it. Even a bad cruise (I've heard there are such things...I've never personally experienced one) is better than no cruise. I know you will have a great time. I really enjoy sailing out of Tampa. We are sailing on Brilliance in November.
Off topic but....I have family in Rock Hill. LOVE it there.

SteveinSC reacted to BigBrust in Cabin Assignment
Well the cruise is for my daughter’s sweet 16- she chose a cruise with a friend over a party- don’t blame her. I figured since we had to get 2 cabins I’d save a few bucks booking a gty balcony for both rooms. I honestly don’t care where we end up- I know it will be a balcony and I will be on vacation!

RobandAnna- I was also offered a Royal Up this week. I also thought it was a bit strange as well since I haven’t been assigned a cabin yet. Figured I would take my chances with what they give me and go from there.

SteveinSC got a reaction from KristiZ in New Ports?
Amapala, Honduras.....but im partial to Honduras, as my wife is from there. Its located on an island on the Pacific side. Its a newer port, and would love to see RCCL bring MORE tourism dollars to the country and people of Honduras, as they desperately need it.

SteveinSC reacted to MotleyCruiser in Nachi Cocom Review 2019
I was just surfing the excursion section here and found no review for Nachi Cocom here….even with a search. Nachi is intimate all-inclusive resort type area, on the beach south of the international pier. I’d say roughly 10 miles from the port.
I researched many of the “Resort for a day” types in Cozumel and liked the fact that Nachi has free liquor drink, AND they do frozen virgin styles for the pregnant wife, they offer bottled water at no charge, they limit the people are allow on property to 130 each day, and you can make a nominal deposit online and pay the balance in person. Deposit $20.00 pp in advance, 2 year old was no charge but eats and beverages are still free.
Getting there is no hassle at all. Get of the ship, go the the taxi stand, get in taxi, say “ Nachi Cocom please”, and your there in 15 minutes tops!! $20.00 each way for the taxi. No mention of needing a baby seat so be extra diligent of little ones. The taxi driver will not be cautious with his driving AT ALL!!!
Arrival is simple…Taxi pulls up, we unload, walk to podium, show conformation, pay balance, walk 8 feet get rum Punch! Someone then escorts you to your area for the day. We were under two coconut trees with two loungers and two mini tables. Drinks are brought to you when needed. Menus are brought to you. (I wish I took pictures of the menu, sorry). Lunch is not 5 star, but if expect 5 star you’re in the wrong country anyway….it’s traditional Mexican fare. Quesadillas, enchiladas, salads. Better menu than I thought it would be and way better that the Buffet at Playa Mia. For activities they do have ‘extra’ you can purchase…photo packages, massage table people, even glass bottom boat tours, and banana boat rides. You can even have your wedding there. My wife hung out in the sun while I occupied the little one in the ocean, playing in the sand , and we all enjoyed the fresh water pool ….with swim up bar!!! Adults occupied the pool and unfortunately, smoking was allowed it the area. 10 Rum Punches and a decent meal and clean facilities this was the highlight of our cruise. It’s nice to have to have thing done for you and Nachi takes care of everything. Oh yeah...Free WiFi too!!
Somewhere close to 3pm we headed back toward the exit. Things were a little foggy at this point but I was 98½% functional. The folks at Nachi haled us a cab and we hit the road back to the International Pier. Another 20 buck, no car seat and a more cautious drive. Made it back in plenty of time. Out little guy was out cold by the time we got back.
Nachi is a DON’T MISS A+ PLACE TO ENJOY THE DAY. We will go again!

We were at Nachi over Labor day weekend. The website states they only allow 130 people. I physically count 146 and it was no where near crowded. Nachi was the highlight of our 5 night cruise

SteveinSC reacted to Matt in No Kraken?
The lists aren't the end all, be all of what's included. Suffice to say, Kraken is absolutely included.
And as @Lovetocruise2002 noted, be sure to order yours before @twangster absconds all the remaining supply.

I see a correlation between cruising and shopping at Dollar Tree. Hmmm? I wonder why? ?

SteveinSC got a reaction from PRebecca in How much do you use the MDR?
I have never done any specialty dining. I love the classic MDR experience (knowing my waiter, trying different foods, etc....) and I cant see paying for food when great food has already been paid for? I will admit ive been accused of not having a discernible palate. Im not a foody, and food is fuel to me. Just my two cents....

NEVER TRUST TECHNOLOGY, completely. Ive had too many phones go out for no reason to trust anything to JUST my phone. I use my phone for tickets to EVERYTHING, but still always have backup printed in my pocket. I have this ridiculous fear that on my way into an event, or getting on a plane, or something....THAT is the moment my phone will get stuck in a boot loop, or something.

SteveinSC reacted to WAAAYTOOO in Survey at end of cruise
I don’t doubt that they believe this to be true but if IS true then Royal needs a new ratings strategy. Many people (myself included) rarely give a “perfect” score to anyone...b/c where do you go [up] from there ? That’s one reason I really dislike these kinds of surveys. If everyone is perfect (and NObody is) then there’s no need to ask and the surveys are a waste of time and resources.

This January the night before my flight to Vision of the Seas my iPhone 7 Plus just died. One minute it was working, the next time I grabbed it it was dead. Too late to get it fixed I flew to NOLA without a working phone.
Last year boarding Symphony I used my phone to check in but once the ship started boarding and they needed to scan it, the Royal app froze and crashed. I had a screen shot but it was buried in photos from a few weeks prior. It was easier to reach into my pocket for my paper copy which is what I boarded with.
As a frequent flier I gave up using my phone as my boarding pass a long time ago. So many times a paper copy works out better, a lesson learned from that time the gate agent dropped my phone, or it wouldn't scan, or Apple's infinite wisdom that when you turn your phone over it should kill the screen, except you have to turn it over to scan it to board the plane.
I use paper always now. Phone is a backup. It's safer and easier. Whether a plane or ship my paper boarding pass is always in my left pocket.
Plus once I'm on board and want to buy a drink handing a paper setsail to a bartender is a lot better than handing over a $1,100 smart phone.

The view of the ocean at night. I love to go out late at night when it is quiet and there is no land within site to see the ocean. That is the best feeling in the world to me.

SteveinSC got a reaction from Matt in Transfer of Reservation to Travel Agent Denied
Just so everyone is aware:
I attempted to transfer my reservation to MEI Travel, after hearing all the praise and kudos from basically everyone on the podcast and boards. I learned that if youve already paid for your cruise in full, you cannot transfer. You can only transfer as long as there is a balance remaining. Kelley H. was STILL awesome to work with, and communicate with, in the short time we did. I will definitely use one, and probably MEI, in the future.
