  1. This has been my experience. More to the point, many of the waiters in specialty restaurants actively encouraged my adventurous 11 year old eater to try things off of the adult menu!
  2. That's Ausable Chasm, NY, "The Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks!" Not quite as impressive as the real Grand Canyon, but it is definitely a beautiful place worth visiting if you're in the area. https://www.ausablechasm.com/
  3. Same story here. We had a slightly longer 5 1/2 hour drive from Central NJ to Ausable Chasm, NY to see it, but the 3 1/2 minutes of totality was absolutely indescribable. I got one picture (which doesn't remotely do what was happening justice), then we all just soaked it in. Luckily we stayed in Plattsburgh, NY the night before and after the event, so when it was over we got to go north a few miles while the rest of humanity went south on I-87. It was a good choice!
  4. This is exactly what I was thinking, it feels a lot like a ChatGPT response.
  5. Nope! Last time I was there, there was a letter waiting in the stateroom when we arrived with the extension to call to schedule our lunch.
  6. My 8 and 11 year old were both Diamond on their last cruise due to our status. If I understand correctly, minor children inherit that status level of their parents, but once they turn 18 they will not advance to the next level until they personally accrue the necessary points. Our personal example: both my sons have 42 points but are currently Diamond because of my status. If we don't hit Diamond + by the time they're 18, they'll have to earn the 175 points on their own to advance, but they will maintain their Diamond status even if they haven't gotten to 80. In other words, minors won't lose status once they hit 18, but at that point they have to reach the next level solely based on their own point total.
  7. This gives me strong running to catch the last NJ Transit train of the night out of Penn Station vibes...
  8. When I was there last year, the Beach Club had complimentary floating mats on site.
  9. This undoubtedly saved lives. Not sure what Law Enforcement agency is responsible for traffic over the bridge, but they reportedly had both sides closed down to traffic within minutes of the call. The most recent information I've heard is that they've confirmed that there were no vehicles traveling across the span when it collapsed. The officers were attempting to notify and clear the construction crews and vehicles that were working on filling pot holes when the collision occurred, but were unable to do so in time. A tragic situation that could have been much, much more worse.
  10. Very much the same to you. Good to see you back my friend.
  11. Looks like some sort of IT glitch. If you select April, the "missing" months suddenly become available (and the search results do populate with cruises over that timeframe).
  12. Would *I* wear shorts or formal night? No. Getting dressed up and having photos taken is something my family really enjoys while cruising. Would I spend a single nanosecond worrying about, criticizing or critiquing a fellow guest who opted to wear shorts? Also no. We get dressed up because we like to, other people prefer not to go through the bother because that's what they like. In the end, we're all there to enjoy ourselves!
  13. It's really pretty easy, and even more so on the weekends when the NEC trains are much less crowded. The Ubers to/from the port eat up a bit of the savings, but being a passenger is always less stressful than driving, so there's that!
  14. I don't know, if you're in a situation where you need to board the lifeboats and are patient enough, getting clear of the decks is a problem that will eventually solve itself...
  15. If they even accept them, most businesses I've come across on Roatan charge a fairly massive CC fee, like 10-25%. Cash is your friend here.
  16. They seemingly do hold back quite a few "prime time" slots. The last two cruises I was on, I saw the same thing as @Leroyr55 in my Cruise Planner, and I was on it the day dining opened up (you might say I'm a *bit* compulsive about checking my Cruise Planner after I've booked!). That said, on both trips the Suite Concierge was able to get us 7:00 reservations for 4 on our choice of days. Whether these slots are held specifically for suite class guests or just held back until boarding, I don't know, but I can definitely confirm that not all of the available spots are on Cruise Planner.
  17. The answer is all dependent on what you're looking for. Are you just looking for a nice, clean place to rest and have a good night's sleep, then have an easy ride to the port the next day? Maybe GrubHub some dinner? If so, it's a pretty good choice. Are you looking to go out and eat? Maybe see some sights, take in the NYC skyline? If so, you're going to be very disappointed. All depends on what your expectations are!
  18. Break me off a slice of that humble pie as well. We've been so inundated with the drive-by bots that I have convinced this was one, too. I'm very glad you returned to follow-up @p27159, and it looks like @HeWhoWaits, @CrimsonCruiser, @CanHardlyWait and others have already provided you with some good information. Apologies for the cranky welcome wagon and hope you'll stick around in spite of our initial response!
  19. I am personally offended that you believe this heartfelt story of the trials and tribulations of the 27159 family may not be genuine.
  20. We went to Queens when we were there and really enjoyed it. The food was good, and the staff was super friendly and went over the whole menu with us. The owner was in the kitchen that day and came out to check in on all the tables. When he found out we were Yanks trying Texas BBQ for the first time, the "let's impress 'em" gene activated, and suddenly lots of little samples starting making their way out on top of the order. Really good meal.
