  1. Quote is from a story published yesterday. Not sure what RC will decide about Serenade scheduled to get in on Wednesday. There have been no updates from RC at all concerning any of next week's scheduled Bermuda arrivals. I would think with Anthem sailing tomorrow that they will need to make a call soon. Would they wait until the ship sets sails to make a decision? There's a big difference between packing for Bermuda vs Canada. I'd prefer not to pack more clothing than necessary.
  2. Latest track has it going quickly past Bermuda Tuesday afternoon/evening as a Cat 1. I would think that a Monday arrival would be iffy at best right now, but these things can change quickly. For Serenade, I hope there's still a chance that it can dock on Wednesday. Stay tuned.
  3. That's only half the question, the other half is Hurricane Jerry which is also tracking towards Bermuda for next Tues-Wed.
  4. I'm at 37, but I'm sure I'm nowhere near being in that chair. Too old for the middle, too young for the oldest (clowns to the left, jokers to the right.....)
  5. Normally I would be at the game (season tickets for 28 years), but I sold the tickets several months ago. I'll be on that ship no matter where it's going.
  6. We witnessed this happening on Oasis back in 2013. We were on our way back to FLL, sailing between Florida and Cuba, when we heard "Oscar, Oscar, Oscar". The ship came to a sudden halt and did a 180 and then stopped again. When we went over to the rail to see what was happening, we saw the raft with about 12 people on board. A dinghy was sent out and after about 20 minutes, came back. As we got underway, the captain announced that they were offered help, but the crew was told that the people just wanted to be left alone. The Captain notified the US Coast Guard and we asume they were met once they reached US waters. My wife took quite a few pictures, a few of them attached here.
  7. I'm on Serenade leaving Boston 9/22 and scheduled to get into Bermuda 9/25. It certainly looks like a close call for me. Latest track has Jerry going past Bermuda between 9/24-9/25 as a tropical storm. I really don't want to be going to Canada, but not much anyone can do about the weather. There's still a long time to go, so hopefully the storm changes track and allows us at least some time in Bermuda. If it's any consolation, Sunday and Monday are supposed to be hot up here in the northeast, so if we head north, we'll get at least one hot at sea day.
  8. I'm locked in at $48 for next week's cruise. I'm not going to do better than that.
  9. My first experience with zip lining was a tree top adventure in Jamaica. I'm petrified of heights, but decided I had to challenge myself. We booked the excursion far ahead of time and I had plenty of time to think about it. I may have backed out, but my 25 yr old daughter (at the time) kept telling me that I would never go through with it. My pride was at stake. It turned out to be a frightening but amazing excursion. We were brought up to the mountains and start a progression of 6 runs with hiking and climbing in-between. The 1st run was only about 75 ft but each one progressed in length and height. The last couple were past the point of return. The only way back was to finish the excursion. The final run was over 1200 ft long and 200 ft up over a canyon. We couldn't see the end of the run which went back into the jungle. While I was gliding along, I actually opened my eyes and took it all in. Quite amazing. Unfortunately, for the young lady coming a few people behind me, she screamed and cried the entire way and was in such a panic, she stopped herself about 100 ft short of the platform. A guide had to hook up and go out to pull her in. We've zip lined 2 more times since, but none have matched that first experience.
  10. I'm watching this one closely as well. We depart for Bermuda Sunday (from Boston) and we're supposed to be there Wed - Fri. I know it's far out, but if that makes a turn north, it could become an issue.
  11. Fellow New Englander here.? Sailing out of Boston this coming Sunday (9/22), first time out of Boston. This is a great place to share information and ask questions.
  12. Back in Dec '14, we stayed at the Country Inn. The room came with 10 nights of parking in a gated lot (10 day cruise) and they had an agreement with a bus service to get us to the port (extra charge). Can't recall the actual cost, but we felt it was a good deal. Besides the Ruby Tuesdays, there's an IHOP there as well.
  13. For me personally, I would spend time in the casino if it was non-smoking. Smoke gives me a huge headache and I just can't be exposed to it for too long if I want to enjoy everything else. The little time we have spent there, we try to find a time when there aren't too many people, typically during the day when most people are by the pool.
  14. Being in FLL, you'll likely be getting Pats/Dolphins if the ship is using the network broadcast.
  15. Yes, forgot about that, but I'm not a fan of seafood (lived my whole life within 30 miles of Boston and I don't like seafood ).
  16. We always get the 3N dining package. We're a bit more partial to Giovanni's, but still enjoy both. Our experience with Chops is that it can be inconsistent and really comes down to who's cooking the meat. We had some amazing dinners at Chops and a couple of so-so. We've also found that Chops is better early in the week, perhaps because the better cuts are used first? For our 9/22 sail coming up, we'll do Chops on night 2, then likely do Giovanni's on nights 4 & 6 (Serenade only has Chops and Giovanni's).
  17. Sting Ray City was one of the very first excursions we ever took, just a couple of weeks after Steve Irwin was killed by a sting ray. The crew spent some time reassuring everyone that it was completely safe We had a great time, well worth the time and money.
  18. We have always been early eaters, so we prefer the early session. If we go out to eat and we arrive after 5, we feel like we're late. We've been eating with the blue hairs for many years now. But as has been noted already, the early seating fills up first. So the past few sails, we've gone with MTD and reserve times as early as possible. For our upcoming trip (10 days and counting down), we have 4 MDR reservations at 5PM, the other 3 nights will be at the specialty rooms at 6PM.
  19. I'll have both, you can never be too prepared.
  20. No Playmakers on Serenade. But perhaps there's a chance that I'll get some Sam or Harpoon since both breweries are within a stone's throw of the pier. A person can hope....
  21. We always try the Drink of the Day. I'm a beer drinker, my wife is vodka and tonic. We always get the fresh squeezed orange juice and upgraded coffee at breakfast.
  22. Certainly not in the MDR. If you have an assigned seating or reserve a time with My Time, you'll have a table. If you just show up at the MDR without a reserved time, you may have to wait a short bit, but the staff is good at moving things along. The Windjammer will be busiest in the morning, especially when arriving at a port. Lunch is busy during the sea days, but again, usually there's staff to help you find a table. I've never had a situation where I gave up.
  23. I'm not a wine drinker, I have no clue. But wine in a box was popular for a while.
