  1. I suggest calling if you want to cancel and rebook the Beach Club rather than doing it through the Cruise Planner. We did it online and lost out completely because during the time it took to rebook, there ended up being only one spot left and we needed two
  2. In my best Maxwell Smart voice: “Missed it by that much” We are on Liberty August 28-September 4, and our October cruise goes to Canada.
  3. I know it’s not local to you, but our local airport still has testing. Maybe an airport in your area has testing. It’s done by Curative. Info says no out of pocket expenses. I don’t know if it’s subsidized by the state or not. I just scheduled an test for Thursday to use on our Sunday boarding of Liberty.
  4. I would think there are taxis of some kind at the port when ships come in. I’ve been looking online and don’t see much in the way of organized excursions that interests us in Sydney. We’re going to wing it there. In St John, we’ll see what is going on in the port area and make our way to see the reversing falls on the river. I’ve read that there is a glass walkway over a part of them, and I’d like to try that. I’ve also read about the public market, so we’ll hit that up.
  5. I feel like the glory days of Royal Ups have passed now that ships are sailing at or close to capacity.
  6. Same in northern and northwestern Maine. The change is all mixed together.
  7. On our last cruise out of Miami, a whole crowd of people up on deck were making siren noises at the escort boat until they put the lights and siren on. it was quite comical.
  8. I expect that businesses in Canadian ports that US based cruises go to will accept US Dollars, however I also expect them to take it at face value. It’s nothing new. I grew up in a border town. USD was always welcome, but at par. As far as Vancouver, I used to visit when I was doing training at Whidbey, and all of the bars took our US cash…but no exchange rate was offered. We use our Visa debit card when visiting my in-laws in NB and have a stash of lower denomination Canadian money for incidentals. We’re doing the same when we cruise to the Maritimes in October
  9. Math and the magic of measurement are a lost art. Our scales at work measure in hundredths of a pound. I've been in the business since 1985, and every place I've worked, it's been like this. Here's a quiz....what's wrong with this? People will ask us for a half a pound of something. The scale will read .51, and when we hand it to them, they tell us it's 5 ounces, and that's more than they wanted.
  10. I originally sold it to my wife by saying flights Maine were a big part of the cost of cruising, and since we were already on the ship, we should stay onboard and make it a full week. To be honest, we previously did one of the cruises on Adventure from Nassau that had two stops there, and I think CocoCay's funnel cake is the reason she agreed to the b2b so readily.
  11. We did this in November 2021 and enjoyed the two days there so much that we booked another 3N/4N with CocoCay stops for next February.
  12. For our cruise on Liberty on the 28th of this month, I ordered the Water Can Package (24 Bottles) for $20.04 total. When I ordered it, the description said "Select a package of 12 or 24 (12-oz) bottles once you reserve" but showed a Dasani can in the picture. I figure it'll be a surprise when we get to our cabin.
  13. Here we go on the envy train.... I paid more for one of my trucks than the other. For that extra money, I got a truck that makes it easier to enjoy activities I want to do. Should the person who bought a stripped version of the same truck be bitter because I have more options? Should my other, less-equipped truck be jealous? Should my wife be envious that her vehicle isn't capable of towing or going off road...or should I be upset because her car gets better mileage???? To each their own. Stop worrying about what other people do and be thankful that you are able to go on a cruise. Now, to make this relate to cruising: Once our kids grew up and moved out, we discovered cruising and really enjoy it. We've decided that we'd rather book two or three (or four) cruises a year in Interiors or Balconies than one (or two) in Suites. We do this because it fits our budget. I do not care what other people do when they cruise. Full Stop.
  14. We've been looking online and watching videos for things to do as well. We are very undecided. We have Charlottetown covered as one of my wife's cousins lives there, but we're still not sure about St. John and Sydney. We hate to get to a port without a plan, but it may happen.
  15. We're contemplating it, just not sure if we want to drop the $900 deposit in addition to the deposit we currently have on the Italy cruise. I'm knee deep in remodeling our house, and I came across a lot of structural water damage. Even though I'm doing the work, the materials are getting pricey, and we cash flow everything, so the potential deposit money may be needed depending on what else I come across. I guess it's first world problems.
  16. We’re torn. Over the past few months we’ve been talking about alternatives in case the flights to Italy for our October ‘23 cruise are crazy expensive. This would be a great alternative (my wife doesn’t have the pto to do both). There are currently a decent selection of cabins available, but if we wait until flights are available to look at in October ‘23, the cabin type we want might not be available anymore. I guess all in all, this isn’t a bad dilemma to be in. Regardless, we’ll be on a cruise.
  17. lol ....and now I have to convince my wife this is a good one us to book event though we're headed to Italy in October 2023 for a 7-night....I wonder if she'll buy into the fact that it ends in Boston, and that's only a couple hours from home??
  18. I was amazed at how long the service center line was in Miami last winter when our flight was canceled at the last minute. My wife jumped up to run with the mob (and it was a mob scene), and I grabbed her arm and asked her to sit down while I rebooked us on the next available flight via the app (turned out to be the next day). The line for the American Airlines rebooking center went way down the terminal, almost to the baggage claim escalators. It was insane, as were most of the people in the line.
  19. I get the whole packing thing. My wife: Is that what you're wearing? Me: I guess not.
  20. Just for info….the cruise planner for our Feb 6-10, 2023 Mariner sailing just populated, but the one for Feb 3-6 (on Mariner) still shows nothing.
  21. I suspect that when they scan sea passes when leaving the ship it will let security know whether or not the person is vaccinated……or something similar. That’s what I’d do.
  22. I agree. Getting into Canada the past couple years has been awful.
  23. Our son got married in 2018 the weekend after July 4th. Long, long , long drive from Maine and back.
