You missed out -- before GPS (and before mapquest.com) you could go there and ask for a "TripTik", and someone would make you a little binder of maps for a custom driving route for your road trip.  They would use a highlighter to show the route.
I recall using one of this when I was a kid in the late 80's to direct my mother on our driving trip to Lancaster PA.  Was kinda nifty.

It's awful you had to deal with something like this; it's really unacceptable.
I'd give it a few days, and if you do want to escalate it up, you could write a concise email to Michael Bayley, and someone from exec relations would likely get back to you about it.  I've complained about much lesser things, and gotten responses.
But I also agree that you are likely to get better service, in general, if you find a *good* TA for future bookings.  And you're likely to get better answers to most of your questions if you post them on message boards like this one.
I hope you have an awesome time on your B2B cruise on Jewel in December!

What brand of phone?  I've found that the mobile version doesn't work well with iOS Safari browser.  But it works with Chrome.  Not sure why, since I was under the impression that all browsers on iOS use the same rendering back end, so either that changed or there is something else going on.

OK, back in our cabin taking a breather! Here are some pics of the Solarium Bistro and the upper and lower sections of the solarium.

After breakfast, we headed to the Ultimate Abyss and rode it down to the Boardwalk. My wife was iffy as she can be a little claustrophobic, but she survived! Lol! No lines.
We walked around the Boardwalk and even rode the carousel for kicks. Here are some random pics and a bunch from the Boardwalk.

    I’ll be back… 😎

I’m back… let’s see if I can wrap up today before I pass out! 😂 Very busy day onboard… my wife is out like a light!
Since we were in our bathing suits, we decided to eat lunch at El Loco Fresh. We appreciated the causal, quick-service restaurant and will likely return before the end of the week. After lunch, we headed back toward the Ultimate Abyss and walked around. Of course my wife wanted to go back into the pool and hot tub, so we headed back to the solarium. Here are a few more pics…

After hours in the water, we dried out and headed back to our cabin to shower and change for the first formal evening in the MDR. Here is tonight’s menu…

For appetizers, I had the calamari (very tender) and French onion soup. My wife chose the pumpkin soup and shrimp cocktail.

For the main course, we both had the beef tenderloin… for dessert, we both had the Grand Mariner soufflé.

After dinner, we went to see the ice show (Frozen in Time). We always enjoy the ice shows. I’m always so impressed that they can perform these shows while the ship is rocking! After the ice show…yes, back in the water. Happy wife, happy life! 😀 This time we swam in one of the main pools and hot tubs. For periods of time, we were the only people in the pool or hot tub! Some random pics…

Looking down from the pool deck through Central Park into the Royal Promenade…

We dried off… changed and headed to the Royal Promenade for some Sorrento's pizza! We then went across the promenade into the Globe & Atlas pub and enjoyed the guitarist/vocalist (Paul Sainsbury) before finally heading back to the cabin for the evening.
Tomorrow is a port day (Port Canaveral), but we will be staying on the ship. Enjoying the opportunity to explore many of the places we skipped on Allure because we had a more port-intensive itinerary.
Question of the day… what towel animal is this? Trying to figure it out! Is it a bear?

… and here is tomorrow’s Cruise Compass (Day 3)…

Time to pass out… hope you all have a good night!

After breaking in the DBP with a couple of drinks we decided to head to the upper decks to walk around and to grab a good spot for sail away.

Stacks are lowered now… getting closer to departure!

… not the clearest photo (major digital zoom and haze), but the NCL Breakaway was also departing with us out of New York…

… lining up behind us to go under the Verrazano…

… OK, I apologize! Stupid me shot video approaching and going under the bridge, but I did not take any photos! So cool and soooo close to the bridge decking!
Back on our cabin balcony… now it’s the Breakaway’s turn to go under the Verrazano…

After a little more wandering, we headed to Giovanni’s for dinner…

For appetizers, we kept it simple… my wife had the Lentil soup (no pic) and I had the Mozzarella di Bufala (tasty).

For the main course, my wife had the mushroom risotto (Risotto Ai Quattro Funghi) and I tried the Gnocchi (Gnocchi Al Gorgonzola). Sorry about the pics… dimly lit in the restaurant. Her risotto was excellent… my gnocchi was good, but so rich with that cheese sauce!

And for dessert, we had the torta and the tiramisu… both excellent!
    8

Just in case anyone was wondering what was on the menu in the MDR tonight…

    … and pics of today’s Cruise Compass…

We went to see the Headliner show (David Lucas). He does an excellent show (amazing juggler and funny comedian). He comes from a long line of acrobats/jugglers. He shows a bit of his father’s and uncle’s various acts that they performed on the Ed Sullivan show back in the 1950’s. Very impressive. We both had a good time!
We wandered a bit afterward, but my wife was exhausted and we returned to the cabin. Time for me to turn in too as I’m sure we’ll be up early! Sea day tomorrow and our first formal evening of the cruise!
    Chat again tomorrow!

    Have a great evening/ morning everyone! 😀

Are we really going on a cruise??? It won't settle in for us until we actually step onto the ship tomorrow morning! 😀
It's been almost 2.5 years since our last cruise (Allure, 5/19/19)! Wow, that almost sounded like a confession, LOL!
Like so many of you, we dealt with cancellation after cancellation due to this horrible pandemic... Harmony... Symphony... Oasis (x3)... I guess the 3rd time is the charm for Oasis!
Unlike my first/last blog, I wanted to start before we boarded! 😎
My wife and I could not pass up the chance to sail on the amped Oasis out of Cape Liberty. We absolutely LOVED Allure and are sold on the Oasis class! This will be our 3rd sailing out of Bayonne - Explorer (2013) and Liberty (2015). This cruise will also be different, and special, as it will be the first time my wife and I have sailed alone since our 3-night teaser cruise on the Disney Wonder during our honeymoon 17 years ago! We're also planning on relaxing a bit more as the itinerary is not as port-intensive and we are planning on staying onboard in Port Canaveral.
Covid testing: We had originally booked a PCR test with CVS for yesterday morning (24-48 hour turnaround), but we decided the stress of waiting for the results today would be too much to handle! Instead, we went to a local urgent care facility (City MD) and had the rapid antigen test. Results were e-mailed to us within 2 hours and thankfully we were both negative!
OK... enough yapping... here is the brief synopsis...
    Cruise Details:
Oasis of the Seas, 7-night, Perfect Day & Bahamas (Port Canaveral, CocoCay & Nassau) Out of Cape Liberty (Bayonne, NJ) 10/3/21-10/10/21 Cabin Details & Cruise Planner Stuff:
Ocean View with Large Balcony (Deck 8, Mid-Ship, Starboard side... across from Giovanni's Table) Selected Traditional Dining (5:30PM) Purchased the Deluxe Beverage w/ VOOM Package Purchased the 3 Night Dining Package Purchased the Full Day Pass to Coco Beach Club (CocoCay) Purchased the Blue Lagoon Island Dolphin Encounter and Beach Day (Nassau) Miscellaneous Stuff:
We're located in Suffolk County, NY (middle of Long Island), so we're just 70 miles or so from the port. We're driving to the port, and for the convenience as in the past, will be parking in the port garage for the week. The cost is currently $25/day (incl tax), but effective 10/15/21, they are raising it to $30/day. Still trying to decide when to leave... should take about 1.5 - 2 hours to get there... probably leaving earlier and will wait in the garage if need be just in case there is traffic or an accident on the way! Our first time on Oasis and our first time to CocoCay post renovations! We chose the cabin location in part based on a comment @WAAAYTOOO made some time ago on the forum (Thank You!). Since we are on the same deck as Central Park and mid-ship, there are no cabins on the other side of our corridor, just the back of the restaurants (Giovanni's for us). Should be very quiet! We love Central Park and the convenience of being close to the Trellis Bar and all of the specialty dining options! We originally purchased the Key, but Royal cancelled it for our sailing. We're OK with the cancellation... sailing at reduced capacity will lessen the overall value of the Key IMO.
*** Please let me know if you have any questions or would like me to post pictures of something you are interested in... I'll do my best to keep up! 😀

    OK, time to finish packing!
We also have to drop our Goldens (Bella & Jake) off later at my sister's house for the week! Don't tell them we're going away without them! 😱

He said that the reason being given for allowing 12 yos in 298 is that they are vacc’d and their parents don’t want them in adventure ocean with unvaccinated kids.

I'm taking a little bit of a different approach to this trip report since it's almost a month overdue.  I've been busy.... cruising.  It's such a great time to cruise so I'm making up for lost time by spending a lot of time on cruise ships which is slowing down my posting.
@Matt was also on board for this cruise and he was posting reports from this cruise live so I didn't feel the need to run a simultaneous live blog while he was doing such a great job representing our cruise.  Consequently I'm going to simplify this thread and keep it more about photos of Odyssey with less blabbing about my cruise.
As I create this thread I am waiting in my hotel room for yet another cruise to start but if I don't get this going I may never will so without further delay here is Odyssey in pictures.

See if you can try to find a BA confirmation/booking number and check it on their website.  I've been able to do that with Delta for flights booked with EZAir and Air2Sea, and for SAS for flights booked with Air2Sea.  But there are often two sets of confirmation numbers floating around, one for EZAir/Air2Sea/etc and one for the airline, so you may have to search for it.

karl_nj got a reaction from JLMoran in Air2Sea / Flights by Celebrity vs Princess EZAir -- It's not even a competition
Interesting... so I noticed something very similar when I tried to book flights for my recent cruise on Celebrity Edge on Flights by Celebrity.  In the past, when using Air2Sea, I used to be able to book both cabins at the same time, but this time around, I kept getting error messages.
I ended up giving up and just booking airfare directly with the airline, even though I gave up a $100/person "discount" in order to do that.
Similarly, when i've used EZAir in the past, I had no issues booking flights for 2 cabins at the same time.
Odd that both EZAir and Flights by Celebrity are now running into the same issue, which wasn't a problem in the past.

In other news, i'm still fighting with Air2Sea to get my flights refunded, after Royal cancelled my August cruise.  First they told me I needed to wait 45 business days.  Then, after I called after 45 business days, they told me I needed to wait "two billing cycles".  I haven't called back yet.  I assume their new excuse will have something to do with the phases of the moon.
In short, I think all of these programs are overburneded and not providing the customer service they used to.

Cunard is still pretty much like this.  Officially it's a bottle of wine per person, but you can pretty much bring whatever you want onboard.  Extra wine, bottles of liquor, etc.  Same thing in the ports -- if you buy 6 bottles of rum in port, security doesn't take it from you.  You just take it to your room.

I was very impressed with the onboard activities on Celebrity Edge.  My wife enjoys doing Zumba at home a few times a week, and on Edge Zumba was run every morning at 9:30am, so she was thrilled.  Due to the low passenger counts, the class wasn’t super crowded, and they ran the class in The Club, which had a good amount of space and was in an out of the way area.  On Royal they don’t seem to run Zumba as often and they don’t have a great venue for the class.  On Anthem my wife has attended Zumba in 270, and there isn’t really good floor space for everyone.  On Symphony they ran the class in the middle of the Royal Promenade.

Celebrity also had a speaker onboard, part of their Beyond the Podium enrichment program.  On our sailing, Ted Blank spoke almost daily about various space and astronomy topics.  I was very impressed with his talks and attended them all.  He was just as good, if not better, then some speakers I've seen on Cunard.  The only advantage to Cunard’s onboard enrichment program is they usually have 3 different speakers, not just one.  So you are almost guaranteed to have at least one speaker giving presentations on a topic you are interested in.  I lucked out that my sailing had someone talking about space and astronomy.  If the onboard speaker was talking about, say, the history of broadway shows, I doubt I would have attended them all.

The pre-pandemic “avant garde” show in Eden appears to be gone for good.  It was replaced with The Edge Acoustic Experience.  They brought a five member band onboard.  Most of the musicians seem to be able to play multiple instruments, and several of them also sing.  Starting at 5:30 in the evening, there is continuous music all night.  They switch in and out, in groups of one or two musicians who play a set.  During transitions, the incoming and outgoing musicians will join up together to play a song or two, making the transitions seamless.  I thought this was a great idea.  I always have terrible luck, and end up getting a drink in a lounge just as someone is finishing up their set, telling everyone that they are going on break and will be back in an hour.  No chance of that happening in Eden on Edge!

Finally, we were welcomed onboard.  We stopped at our cabin to pick up our cruise cards and drop off our hand luggage, and headed up to the Oceanview Cafe Buffet for lunch.

My wife and I ended up trying some wonderful items from the Indian area, and my daughter enjoyed some pizza and fried rice.  All the adults celebrated finally getting onboard with some glasses of sparkling wine.

Based on my previous cruise on Celebrity, I recalled that delicious scoop ice cream, made fresh onboard, was available daily in the buffet, so for dessert I enjoyed a scoop of cinnamon ice cream, one of many fun flavors I sampled during the cruise.  Celebrity also still offers a daily flavor rotation of ice cream in the main dining room, unlike Royal Caribbean.

After lunch we decided to start exploring the ship.

We had started watching the e-muster videos earlier that morning, back in our hotel rooms at the Renaissance Fort Lauderdale (Cruise Port) hotel.  All we had left to do was to check in at our muster station.  So we meandered down to Muster Station E4, located at one of the main dining restaurants.  After having our seapass cards scanned, we were quickly done with muster and didn’t have any other major tasks waiting for completion -- our vacation had truly started.

Next we stopped by the teen club, The Basement, on Deck 2.  Normally my daughter would have been assigned to the Camp at Sea kids club.  The teen club on Celebrity is for 13-17 year olds.  However, on this sailing they were not expecting many children.  There were supposed to be a handful of teenagers, plus a 10 year old and my 12 year old daughter.  So they combined the kids program with the teen program and ran both in the teen club.  My kids were very happy about this, since they would be able to spend time together in the teen club.

The 10 year old never showed up on the ship, so my daughter ended up being the youngest person onboard.  This also meant that our cruise was 100% vaccinated, as no passengers were under age 12, and due to the new USVI requirement, all passengers 12+ must be vaccinated.

My kids visited the teen club a few times, and only met one other teenager onboard.

We had asked for traditional dining, early seating, but it seems like due to the limited capacity of the ship they were just giving everyone anytime dining.  We really liked the waitstaff we had on the first night in the Normandy dining room, so we ended up asking to be seated there for the rest of the cruise.  We had a nice table for 6 right by the window.

Due to the low passenger count on the ship, there were no problems at all getting an elevator.

The Oceanview Cafe Buffet was similarly empty most of the time, compared to a normal capacity cruise.

My wife, two kids (16 and 12), and mom recently came back from a wonderful cruise on Celebrity Edge to the Eastern Caribbean.  We were in 3 Infinite Balcony cabins, 7277, 7279, and 7281.  7277 and 7279 had a connecting door.  Normally my mother would have been booked in the same cabin as my kids, but due to COVID-19 there was a max of 2 passengers per cabin.  However, the single supplement was greatly reduced to make up for this.

Embarkation was a bit of a mess -- my fully vaccinated 12 year old daughter somehow ended up on a (very short) list of passengers that indicated the need for a COVID-19 PCR test at the terminal.  We tried to explain to the employees at the terminal that she was fully vaccinated (while showing her CDC Vaccine card), but all of our questions were ignored.  She was on “the list” and the only explanation we could get was that it was “the Captain's” decision.

My wife and daughter were whisked away to go on a long walk to another building.  I was not permitted to go with them, as my son, mother, and I had already “passed through” the first checkpoint.  I was told I had to head up the escalators and keep moving along.  I decided to stop arguing, because I assumed that if I asked why, they would just tell me that separating families was also Captain McCue’s decision.

My wife did have the presence of mind to ask me to give her my daughter's vaccine card.  When she finally got to the testing area she once again asked why my daughter needed to be tested at the terminal and showed the card.  They told her that this was obviously some mistake, and then was sent back to the terminal for embarkation without any additional testing.

We then made it to the next checkpoint where, once again, everything went smoothly until they tried to check in my wife and daughter.  So after trying a few times, we were sent along to the check in counter for further processing.  The check in desk apparently had some sort of “override” capability, so they were able to get them checked in.

Then it was time to board the ship!  Well, not so fast -- my daughter's boarding pass still didn’t work.  And, once again, my mother, son and I had passed through the last checkpoint, but my wife and daughter were on the other side.  In hindsight, I should have had them try to board first.

They went back to the check in desk, and the rest of us just waited and watched.

After more typing at the check in desk, a 3rd set of boarding passes were printed, but, alas, these didn’t work either.

Eventually additional officers from the ship, with an escalating number of stripes on their uniforms, showed up and managed to convince the computer to permit my daughter to get onboard.

Our Infinite Veranda cabin was certainly a unique design.  Basically it’s an high floor oceanview cabin, with a floor to ceiling window.  The top half of the window can be opened electrically, via a switch on the wall.  In order to try to keep the rest of your room from getting too hot and humid, there are folding doors that you can close to try to seal off the rest of the room.  What is nice about the design is that if you don’t want to open the balcony window, you get this extra room in your cabin.  When it’s very hot out, you can enjoy the view while also enjoying the AC from your room.  This reminded me of my favorite cabin category on Disney Dream/Fantasy -- Deluxe Family Oceanview.  You get a giant porthole window where the balcony should be, and a nice comfy chair to chill in, but you are still inside your cabin.  But, with the Infinite Veranda, if you want to feel the ocean breeze and listen to the sound of the water, you can still open the window.

The main disadvantage is that there are no curtains, only a noisy electric operated shade.  So when your wife wakes up, you will wake up shortly after, once she fires up the Celebrity app on her phone and hits the button to open the shade.  You can also control all the lights in the room, and the AC temperature from the app.  There is also a touch pad on the wall next to the bathroom with similar controls.  Which was great for me, since I wasn’t staying in my “assigned room”.  If I tried using my phone to turn on the room lights, all I would have done is annoy my children…

The bed on Celebrity Edge was much more comfortable then the beds they have on Royal Caribbean these days.  It was also nice to have separate containers of Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash available on the wall of the shower.  On Royal you just get one dispenser of a substance that claims to be both Shampoo and Conditioner.  Perhaps it’s also supposed to be body wash.  You still get a chocolate on your pillow at bedtime on Celebrity too, unlike on Royal Caribbean.  It’s also actually edible, unlike whatever Royal Carribean used to give out at bedtime.  Otherwise the room reminded me a lot of the rooms on Quantum Class ships.  The whole ship actually had some Quantum class vibes going on, from 270/Eden, to the 4 main dining rooms on two floors in the rear of the ship.

Celebrity Edge is a beautiful ship.  I really enjoyed the walking/running track onboard.  It has ramps and does a figure eight over two decks, which makes the walk more interesting compared to other ships.  The pool is huge.  Magic Carpet is a fun place for a drink, with great views.  Both the Sunset Bar and The Rooftop Garden could use some more shade, and seems to have a bit of a soot problem due to their location aft of the stack.

I guess I'm just used to other ships and the sheer number of different bars they have onboard, because I think I was a little underwhelmed with the number of bar/lounges available on Edge.  There are basically only three indoor choices -- Eden, The Club, or the Martini Bar.  They were all quite big, and very nice, but in the back of my mind I guess I was expecting more venues to be available.  In any case, the ‘show’ in the Martini Bar was certainly something to see!

Due to the low passenger count on the ship, there were no problems at all getting an elevator.

The Oceanview Cafe Buffet was similarly empty most of the time, compared to a normal capacity cruise.

  25. Wow
karl_nj got a reaction from MaryS in Trip Report -- Celebrity Edge / Eastern Caribbean - August 2021
