Have you tried to get your kids to look the actual menus.  That is how we decide sometimes.  For example, our upcoming cruise on Harmony, we will likely do mainly specialty.  My girls took one look at the menu from Chops and 150CP and said forget it.

Good idea.  The only issue is with our kids, if one likes black, the other likes white.  Sometimes I think they disagree just for the sake of disagreeing. ?

Pretty sure we'll end up with Jamie's.  It's just on Symphony, Wonderland is probably a good version and from what I hear, that one has a kids menu.

  2. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's one main course, but as many appetizers, sides and desserts as you want.

If you are booking Chops directly, then you pick your date and time.

If it is part of BOGO, First Night Done Right or a dining package, then you book time when you board.

I would concur with Jaimie’s. We just got off of Anthem and dined at both Wonderland and Jaimie’s. We thoroughly enjoyed both meals, but we were all adults, Wonderland might be lost on the kids! Wonderland is a must try, at least once, but make it a special adult evening occasion!

Funny enough it's my 9 year old that wants to try Wonderland...but not for the food, for the atmosphere and theme.

Thank you all...am quite convinced then that Jamie's is a better pick.  I should say too that we have Navigator BOGO in the summer as well, which means Chops and Jamie's (as those are only choices), but Jamie's seems to make more sense and a safer choice.

  4. We have BOGO on Symphony and know that we want to try and book Chops for one of the nights so need to decide on other restaurant.

We are a family of 4

    • DH is a meat lover
    • I don't eat beef or chicken (but do eat fish and seafood)
    • DS13 is picky (but discovered recently at Chops that he likes steak)
    • DD9 is more adventurous and a better eater

They are both good kids and don't have an issue sitting for a nice meal.

I know food is subjective...but would you pick Wonderland or Jamie's?

Correct. Only Star Class suites tend to get front row.

I don’t tend to like front row or near front row.  I actually prefer mid theater because you see everything.  You can take in the whole show versus watching a tennis game where you have to bob your head left and right.

Great. Thanks for getting back to me so quick.  Totally get your perspective.  I'm actually the opposite though and love front row .  The reserved seating would have been main reason for getting The Key.  So very good to know as wouldn't have been good for us.

Keep in mind my experience and review was the very first time it was offered on Oasis.  It appears they have made some adjustments and added some additional benefits since then.

Just read your review. Well written and helpful!   So for the main theatre, the reserved seats are not the first few rows right?  They seem further back?

We just got off Anthem, & had specialty lunch & dinner for 2 from our TA. It was me, DH & DD (28 yo, but disabled & has to come with us, cannot be left alone.) For our dinner, we chose Jamies, & had to pay for her full price.  For lunch, we went to Chops, & they didn't charge us for her, even though she ate her app, dinner & dessert.  You never know what they're going to do....

Oh wow...great that some won't even charge.

Just wondering...for Jamie's, did they automatically charge, or did you ask and they then charged?  Reason I'm asking since when we went on Mariner, we had to ask about getting a refund for our 9 year old for the kids price (since we paid adult price upon booking).

$10 for everything but hibachi is my experience.

We did ultimate dining on Oasis.  They allowed us to do hibachi on the first day with our package which i’ve Only been able to do on Oasis (2x).  My kids are 6 and 9.  We did not pre pay for anything.  We were charged $20 at hibachi for my son as he ate everything.  They didn’t charge me anything for my daughter as she didn’t really eat much.  At Izumi sushi we just used our $70 to feed everyone.  At 150 they charged each kid $10.  At Chops and Giovanni’s they didn’t charge us for either kid any time even though they ate.  So we had 10 specialty meals and it cost us a total of $40 for the week for my two kids.

i don’t think any price would be below $10 if they do charge you.  I wouldn’t buy anything ahead of time.  You may get lucky and not pay anything but I wouldn’t expect it.  Also if you want to get some main dining food they will probably do it.  My son was eating beef carpaccio and salmon for free and my daughter had Mac and cheese for free.  If you are going to eat at the same place a good tip the first time increases the odds you won’t pay for the kids the second time you go.

I hope that answers you question.  If not let me know and i’ll try again.  I do think Oasis is the most lenient of the Oasis class on charging though.  It’s not consistent (surprising I know).

Thanks so much.  We've already bought BOGO for Symphony, and pre-purchased for my 9 year old already.  The BOGO price has gone up quite a bit so in the case they don't refund her cost for the difference, I don't want to cancel, but good to know for next time.  Wonder if BOGO works the same?  I'm glad to hear though that you were charged at most only $10 for your kids.  I did hear that for Oasis, they charge kids 50% of the cost bvs $10 but that doesn't seem so which is good to hear (esp as the specialty meals are extra costly on that ship).

This is what I do every sailing.  My kids are 16 & 20, I book my 16 y/o with me and 20 y/o with my wife.  I simply go to guest services and get an extra room key for each room......and buy the drink package for me of course.  Having 2 rooms also allows us to bring 4 bottles of wine, which is more than enough for my wife.  She only drinks her wine and the very occasional frozen drink while on board so buying her the drink package would be a complete waste of money.

So if DH and DS are in one room, and DD and I are in connecting room, we can brings 2 bottles each?  Or does connecting limit this rule (and our reservations are linked)?

  10. Has anyone been on Oasis class recently and booked BOGO for kids?  If so....can you confirm if the price is $10 for them?  Or is it half price of the actual cost?

We have BOGO on Symphony and have pre-booked for 4 even though my younger one is under 12 years old.

If her actual cost is $10, then it's worth it to get the price adjusted.  But if it's 50% of the actual restaurant cost, then she is better at the BOGO adult cost as this is less than the actual restaurant (as Symphony standalone booking at a specialty is much more than other ships).

e.g. our BOGO is $52 CAD but dinner at Chops is $71 CAD, and even Jamie's is $61 CAD.  So we're better paying $26 charge for each specialty (i.e. not adjusting the BOGO for her).  Even Hooked as $52, so with that one, the cost is the same.

I just got off Anthem on the 18th of January and Chop’s had the red velvet cake! It was delicious!

Was gonna ask if the red velvet cake is good?  Going on Symphony soon and hoping to get Chops.  My husband really wants to try it.

Last time on Mariner I had Molten cake and it was very good.

The Mississippi Mud Pie looks like a winner too.  And if Red Velvet as well...oh what choices!

It's Gallery of Dreams, and then the usual Headliner show.  I cannot remember if there was a Welcome Aboard show.  I blogged about it over the summer.  Have a look.  Link is in my signature below.  We did the 4 night sailing.

We had no Welcome Show 4 day Mariner cruise , but there was an ice show the first night
