I blogged about my trip last spring that included Trinidad & Tobago. Check it out for the excursions we did:

While it was nearly 20 years ago I lived in Trinidad for a year and would definitely recommend sticking with the excursions offered by the ship. I'm not sure where the ship will dock but if it's anywhere in Port of Spain there isn't much to do within walking distance and the public transport isn't very clear to figure out where you want to go.

I second the ship sponsored excursions in Trinidad. Tobago seems a lot safer. It’s much more relaxed and laid back.

I highly recommend sticking with a ship sponsored excursion on your first visit to these ports.  In Trinidad we hiked to the Maracas waterfall and in Tobago we hiked in the Main Ridge Forest Reserve.  Both were fun but are suitable only for people without any mobility issues.  Royal Caribbean had stayed away from these islands for about 20 years due to political instability issues.  RC returned last year: https://www.cruisehive.com/royal-caribbean-returning-to-caribbean-cruise-destination/88109# & https://newsday.co.tt/2022/11/16/royal-caribbean-cruise-line-to-return-after-20-years/    I am sure that you will have a great time

The scariest part of that tour is the ship chugging away to the next port...

I noticed it said that the excursion was 3 hrs... which does seem long! Thank you!!

Let’s hope it’s a “go” for you this time !
While I am glad we did it, we found the St Kitts railway to be too long.  It was interesting and provided beautiful scenery, it just went on and on and on….
Speaking of pouring rain, the day we did the railway it was pouring and we got soaked just before boarding which may have had something to do with our angst. 😇🤗
Again….worth doing, just be prepared for a long trip.  Enjoy whatever you decide to do !

My mom and I are finally going on our rescheduled March 2020 cruise next month! After the pandemic and family medical emergencies causing us to cancel the first three times, we're saying 4th time is the charm. 😉 We will be on Voyager OTS and would love your opinions on excursions for these islands:
Barbados - we have been once before and went to Harrison Caves.  It rained the whole day (so a good day to be in the caves!) but didn't get to explore Bridgetown.  We are wondering if there is enough to see/do in Bridgetown (just planning on walking or taking a taxi from the port)? If not, we would probably book a beach day excursion.
St. Kitts - I have seen many people post about the railway tour and how much they loved it! We have been to St. Kitts previously, and did a tour of the island (not the railway) so we decided to take a water taxi to Nevis and do a tour over there this time.  But, for how much we have seen people post about the railway tour, we are second guessing our decision.  Since we've already done a bus tour, would you still recommend the railway tour (and picking that over a day trip to Nevis)?
St. Lucia - has anyone been to the open air market, maybe a mile or so outside of the port? Just looking to get more information about it.  We were going to head to Marigot Bay for the day, but my mom really wanted to check out the market... so just trying to prioritize our time.
Thank you so much for sharing your opinions/experiences! We appreciate it!

Thank you everyone! The other flight didn't get us back until after midnight, and with driving a distance home from the airport, figuring out new pet arrangements, and working the next morning, it didn't seem ideal... BUT our gut didn't feel right taking the 9am flight, and you guys confirmed it! We ended up skipping the 9am - thank you all for your input! If the mixup didn't happen, we wouldn't be in this predicament, but it will all work out one way or another.  In the end, we are thankful to still be able to enjoy the long awaited cruise!

I personally wouldn't be comfortable with that departure time. Even if the ship docks on time at 6a, it still has to clear Port Authority. On a perfect day they would let people self-assist debark about 645a. In theory that could get you to the airport in a taxi by about 715a, again if everything was perfect. While 715a would be ok for checkin with bags, you couldn't be much later than that.
    I would be too stressed!

Not to be harsh, but just because someone may eventually post that they made it to the airport on time or with plenty of time to spare for an early flight does not mean at all that you will enjoy the same experience. You do not state what time the other flight is, but if it's later than 9:00AM do yourself a favor and take that one. Remember Murphy's law.

You need at least 2hrs while at the airport even when not checking bags. The plane is scheduled to leave at 9am but boarding will commence and close 20-30min before that. So essentially you need to be at your barding gate no later than 8:15. If all goes as planned you might leave the ship at 7:15 when you self-embark. Then tax rides, going through TSA, etc. Anything before 11:30 isn't really advisable, even if you read that someone was able to do it.

Been a few years since the I cruise out our PR. What I remember there weren’t many customs officers at the terminal when you got off (maybe 3 or 4) and it’s about a 20 minute drive to the airport. I would think you’d need to have the stars align with ideal conditions. I wouldn’t risk it

Puerto Rico has an agriculture bag inspection that you have to send your bags through before you can check them.  It's usually pretty quick, but it is an extra step.  Checked bags and carry-ons had to go through it the last time I flew out of there.
We did an excursion and were one of the first groups to leave the ship. We weren't cleared to leave the ship until 7:30am.
Everything would have to go smoothly for a 9am departure. There are several potential choke points in your way.  Seems like a stressful end to your vacation.
We had a late evening flight and chose to kill time doing an excursion that dropped us off at the airport, which was pretty enjoyable.

The long standing suggestion is to. It have a before noon.  Its also recommended to be at the airport no less than two hours before your flight, so for a 9 am flight, you really should be at the airport at 7 am.

yes, I understand many people don’t get to the airport that early before a flight, but that is the general recommendation and I follow it.  I’ve also never missed a flight, so YMMV.

Too tight. 25 minutes to the airport, then deal with the extra agricultural screening.

Hello! We are heading on FOS at the end of March. We fly into San Juan Saturday evening, and we set sail on Sunday. We are hoping to explore San Juan before embarkation (because we won’t have a lot of time on Saturday), but we aren’t sure the best way to do it.

Would it be best to arrive to the pier early on Sunday, check in with our bags, and then grab a taxi back to Old San Juan? Is there a better way to plan this?

Now looking after disembarkation - on a previous sailing, we signed up for the excursion where we could explore San Juan before our flight with airport drop off, but because of our flight time this trip (2:30pm) we aren’t able to do the same excursions. Any suggestions for what to do between disembarkation from the ship and an afternoon flight?
