  1. I'm a New Yorker who visits the Dallas area a few times a year to see friends. I find Texans lovely and friendly people. Sure it may be a little culture shock but it was culture shock for me when everyone called me "ma'am" and "miss" instead of glaring at me. Also what @fonemanbob said, southerners tend to be less stressed (It's true!). If anything you may get a little attention for your accent and it's all good attention.
  2. Thanks, @twangster I think I will do it. The whole point of me traveling alone is doing what I WANT TO DO. I always travel with people and I love it. I also love being alone and not having to put anyone's wants above my own.
  3. Call them. Make it happen. I'm sure you can do onboard since you're in the JS but why not quiet your mind and get it over with?
  4. Nope @JLMoran but maybe once on board they'll be open...not sure how it works with sea days.
  5. They're up now. I made iFly reservations just in case I wanted to try. I've been skydiving before.
  6. Probably. It'll probably make some people want to order food then...I mean, what goes better with a shake than fries and a burger? I want all of this now. Lactose intolerant, who?
  7. I don't think you can opt out of gratuities for packages but I could be wrong.
  8. You clearly do not watch a lot of comedy...he's making $$$ making fun of himself by playing himself. ? (I work in tv, he shows up in stuff)
  9. My only concern (too strong a word but I can't think) is I'm not sure Wonderland would be fun solo since it seems to be an experience.
  10. Have a safe flight!!! Looking forward to your pictures.
  11. Well then I have some preparing to do. Questions are okay but asking "why I couldn't find someone" will make me get snarky. I work in NYC - people eat solo in restaurants all of the time. No one says a word.
  12. I believe there are a few here ( @twangster )who can answer you. I'm looking forward to the answers as well. I bought the Ultimate Dining Package for upcoming solo trip. I sailed with a bunch who didn't want any of the specialty dining a few weeks ago. I plan on dining alone every night at the specialty restaurants. I find it way less daunting to eat alone in a smaller restaurant. Also, I really wanted to try them all and now I can. Please tell me you're joking about the "pity" part. I don't see myself responding well to that. I chose this for myself. I feel like there are plenty of people who sail and dine solo for many different reasons. Another cruise I went on 4 of us were linked and we were put with 2 other separate groups of people - I think if you wanted to be part of a big group you could be. Related side note - all of us really got along and we hung out a lot during the cruise. We keep up a little on facebook. I only really ate dinner with my large group for my last trip, so I brought my kindle with me when I ate. I've traveled alone before for business and done the same - a book or a newspaper.
  13. Black Friday was my lowest price from August '17 to July '18. It doesn't mean it'll definitely be the lowest on that date but that was my experience.
  14. Just ignore it, Matt seems to take care of it swiftly every time. Really loving your review! More, please!
  15. I had the same issue. I had scheduled everything months before and one day it all disappeared and said "at your leisure". Right after we boarded (and had a drink) we went down to the MTD to chat. They linked most of us together but not for dining. We were able to clear it up in a few minutes. We had what we asked for and were able to add people to the reservation - 15 people linked for the same table/time every night. I'd call and check and then day of boarding double check.
  16. +1 (I learned from this site)
  17. Just a thought from my head - I never tipped the pool bar waiters/bartenders extra - only because they never gave me a receipt (drink package?). The pool bar waiters got to know me the first day and would look for me every day after. I got amazing service without ever tipping extra. I did mean to because I appreciated their service but I forgot (they were too good serving me, ? ).
  18. Of course it will always be a matter or taste and opinion - but I drink Starbucks a lot, it's right next to my building at work. I'm drinking it as I type. I only go to Cafe Promenade - I was happy every time. I don't remember the brand they used.
  19. Matt answered everything but adding my two cents: If you've got well behaved children - don't hesitate to take them to any of the dining areas, especially if they'd enjoy it. I say this as a child free cruiser. If people want child free areas they should book vacations accordingly or use the areas specifically for adults. Our large group used the adult pool (16+) for the duration of our trip. The four year old who traveled with us would walk a few steps to the child pool on the other side with an adult.
  20. Same. We had a table of 15 and after the first night when we were told this would be our table every night at 6, we never thought to wait. Oops?
