RCIfan1912 Posted November 12 Report Posted November 12 We just booked Chefs table for our Bermuda cruise next September. My wife did Chefs table on our last cruise and loved it. So with the crazy sales going on I just booked it for both of us. Only problem I will have is I can't stand filet mignon/steak. How do you request a substitution? I thought I read you have to do that well in advance? Thanks for any help. Quote
barjpoe Posted November 12 Report Posted November 12 I can have the scallops (1st coarse); I let them know; they bring me the very thin beef that is sometimes offered as a started in the MDR. They do ask about allergies, so that could fall under that. Not sure what they would offer instead; chicken?. RCIfan1912 1 Quote
CruisingNewb Posted November 12 Report Posted November 12 If you don't have a beef allergy and simply dislike filet mignon, as I do as well, DO NOT tell them you have an allergy. I believe that when you tell RCCL of food allergies beforehand, they go to great lengths to accommodate you. I would hate for you to miss out on a yummy ribeye at Chops because you were simply trying to avoid filet at Chef's Table. There is a Youtube out there where a person simply told the waiter that they did not want Filet. The chef prepared the person a plate of shrimp or something. It is a pretty recent Youtube. If I can find it, I will post it here. RCIfan1912 1 Quote
CruisingNewb Posted November 12 Report Posted November 12 Sorry, I was not entirely correct. The Youtuber's friend "does not eat meat" (not allergic), and the Chef brought out shrimp and clams. RCIfan1912 1 Quote
smokeybandit Posted November 12 Report Posted November 12 That's an easy accommodation. You don't need to beat around the bush. Just say you don't like red meat and they'll bring something else. It may be something simple, like a chicken breast, but they'll handle it. RCIfan1912 1 Quote
RCIfan1912 Posted November 12 Author Report Posted November 12 Yeah I just don't like beef in general. Not a vegetarian or anything, just not my preference and really, really dislike/hate steak. Shrimp would be an excellent sub. I will watch that video soon as I get a chance here at work. Thanks for the info and link. Quote

Thank you, so you don't have to do that before hand or email someone before the cruise? Quote
Shari Posted November 12 Report Posted November 12 We have substituted the Chop's crab cakes for the raw scallops in the past. Just told them that we don't eat under cooked (raw) proteins. You can ask what can be substituted when you are there. Personally, we have been to Chef's table many times and the last time was in 2019 when this menu was introduced fleet wide. Before that time it truly was the CHEF'S TABLE his choice and we had fabulous meals. We do not like this menu and the chefs seem to be unenthused about being directed as to what to prepare so we haven't been back in 5 years. Still waiting for an upgrade to the menu. Quote

A friend did something similar at the Izumi Sushi/Sake tasting. No pre-coordination. Though it might be worth mentioning when you arrive for the dinner. RCIfan1912 1 Quote

cookie10* Posted November 13 Report Posted November 13 If you have the dinning package does the chief table cost extra? If so what's the range, every ship may be different. RCIfan1912 1 Quote

Ampurp85 Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 Re: Chef's table and the UDP I don't think it is included but I know there is a discount. WAAAYTOOO and RCIfan1912 1 1 Quote
