Reigert2008 Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 Just saw this article. While I understand the need for this to occur, it seems like it would have been easier to just delay all boarding. I also suspect some stressed out cruisers if they did not see the notice. https://www.cruisehive.com/royal-caribbean-ship-to-split-embarkation-leave-pier-briefly/146731 PPPJJ-GCVAB 1 Quote

tjcruisers Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 That would definitely cause some stress if you didn't know. I've heard of them doing this a few times now. This thread might be a good PSA for those ever going out of Bayonne in the future, that this might happen Quote
BrianB Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 The article says it’s ‘rare’…but it happens quite a few times at Port Liberty. Oasis-class is enormous and the channel is pretty narrow where she docks. Large container ships come and go to the Bayonne port. Usually they are not scheduled to arrive or leave during the time the cruise ships are docked, but sometimes it happens. So Oasis has to move out of the way. Even the Liberty and Anthem (changed to Odyssey starting this winter season) can be affected by commercial ship traffic. There have been times where a RoRo car carrier is docked just across the channel. Or a large container ship passes by. On the Anthem, we didn’t untie and move the last time it happened when I was aboard. They just delayed boarding for a half hour or so and disconnected the gangways so any motion caused by the passing ship wouldn’t result in damage to those really expensive sky bridges. Oh, well…ship happens. And everyone should know that the most important thing to pack on embarkation day is…patience. **photo from the Anthem Solarium as a cargo ship passes. teddy, tjcruisers, PPPJJ-GCVAB and 1 other 4 Quote

Pattycruise Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 I was on Oasis in Bayonne a few years ago when this happened, it was pretty cool to have a short “sail away” and then come back!! Another time we were not allowed to board at all snd the ship sailed away and then came back for us. WAAAYTOOO, PPPJJ-GCVAB and asquared17 2 1 Quote
