Looking at that Xcel Maiden voyage...

Haven't done Celebrity and have never done a Maiden\Inaugural sailing before. Here's my chance at both!  The Xcel will set sail NEXT November and the maiden voyage seems to be a really good deal (especially compared to the upcoming RC maiden voyages).  I assume these Edge ships are kind of the Celebrity version of Oasis class ships? I can't find much on the Xcel, but is it safe to assume if I watch videos on the Edge or the Beyond, I'm gonna get the idea of what the ship is like, right?  Really considering this one, or would it be better to try another ship for my first taste of Celebrity?

@ScottDAny of the Edge class ships would be a great way to try Celebrity.  I would expect the XCel to be most like Beyond or Ascent, which have some changes from the Edge. Also, I would liken Edge class ships more to Quantum class than to Oasis class in size and feel.

Celebrity is very adult oriented.  While you might see a few children, there aren’t many except for Holiday cruises.
Typically there are shows in the main theater at 7:30 and 9:30 each night. There are also shows in Eden around 10:30 and other events, games, etc in The Club throughout the day.  You won’t find a pub singer or lots of late night action as on Royal, so for some people it may be too calm.

We find Celebrity to have better food than Royal in all venues.
if you like to sail in suites, the Retreat experience is amazing.

We sailed Celebrity for the first time last year and going forward we will be splitting our cruises about 50/50 between Royal and Celebrity as we love the activities and entertainment on Royal and love the relaxation on Celebrity.

@Matt did a great review recently of his Thanksgiving sailing on Apex and talked about the differences between the two lines.

if Xcel is a great deal for the maiden voyage, I say YOLO book it!

Thanks! We do have a kid (who will be 13 if we book this). We MIGHT look at this as a parent only get away, finally... especially since by then he may not want to hang with us as much as he does now at 12 lol.   The maiden voyage is just a 5 nighter, which I figured might be nice for something we haven't tried before, so we might jump on it just to experience the ship.  Ya know, I saw Matts review but didn't read through it much because we weren't even considering Celebrity until I was messing around on the site. Now I'll go read through it a little more thoroughly.

Just got off Apex, our first Celebrity cruise, and agree with all of the above. Kinda Quantum like in terms of venues although the ships tonnage is closer to voyager in size. I was surprised at the lack of bars in certain areas (casino and solarium and not many servers on the pool deck). Also more DJs than live bands (DJ on pool deck for example). Would definitely do an edge class again though.
