wannabecruiseexpert
My daughter is getting to bring a friend on a sailing and she does not know for sure who that friend will be. I want to book flights through air2sea. Can I book a "tbd" name for a flight? Is my only option to just wait until we have a name of who is going with us? twangster
I don't think so. For whatever reason airlines are very strict on name changes. Call and ask, but I'd be surprised if they said yes.

I'm going to need to do it after this Mariner mix up... The agent on the phone today made it sound like an act of congress to get done and that for a cruise next year needed to do it this week... ?????? Royal is very generous in that regard.
twangster
It's usually the primary cruise guest that can't be changed. At least one person on the original cruise booking has to remain. Airlines don't have this flexibility. An airline is a very different business compared to a cruise line. There are already a thousand ways people try to scam airlines or use stolen credit cards to fly. Allowing name changes combined with no shows doesn't work for airlines because all you are purchasing is one seat on a plane. A cabin that holds multiple people on a ship is a different business model so allowing a secondary person in a cabin to change doesn't open the door for scammers to try to buy and sell cruises through a backdoor policy such as changing all names on a booking. Linda R
The primary person on a cruise (passenger #1 on your booking confirmation) I understand cannot be changed, but others in cabin can be changed. I was told you have to change the name before final payment though. I have done this a few times.

I can tell you I've swapped names well after final payment. Name changes need to be done up to 72 hours before sail date. After that, manifest is locked.
