Specific Check-in times

Recommended Posts

My wife and I have a 7 day on Freedom at the end of August.  When we checked-in, it asked for a specific check in time.  This is the first time we were asked for a specific time.  Has anyone ever had this feature for the ship check-in?  We like to check in early, board as early as we can, get an adult libation, walk the ship find a nice spot and people watch on the sun decks as everyone comes onboard.  With this specific time check-in, are you limited to the 30 minute block as a hard and fast rule?  If you show up early are you standing out in the hot sun in the parking lot until your specific time?  Any experience (good or bad) with this check-in process would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

Pre covid it didnt matter what time you were allocated for  check in, you just turned up when you wanted.

We turned up for our Freedom cruise at 10.30am and was onboard just after 11am with drink in hand, this was well before our allocated check in time.

Things may have changed now slightly in that it may take longer to board depending what measures they put in place but you should still be able to head to ship earlier than allocated time

For departures from US ports, Royal does not enforce a boarding time policy.  I've been asked when I plan to arrive but I've never been obligated to actually arrive then.  (They might ask so they have an idea of when the busy times will be but I don't really think they do anything with the information.)

I haven't seen any announcement that this will change once cruising restarts but you never know.  The check in process will have to include social distancing in line and if they can discourage too many people from showing up at the same time, that would probably help.

From the sounds of it they are allowing people to choose their arrival time when they check in.  So checking in as soon as it opens would be advantageous.

Hold on........Do you mean there are people who don’t check everyday in case check-in opens early?
