SPS got a reaction from gabeb848 in New Ship Name Artwork on Odyssey of the Seas
Once I'm on board (January 29th!), I doubt I will notice it. 😬
I'm wondering if the lettering is just paint/decals. I've noticed on other RC ships that the name is actually cut-out steel letters that are welded to the hull.

I may get shot down for this but I am indifferent - I plan to be too busy enjoying everything that she has to offer on board to worry too much about what she looks like from the land 😎

Food was great, service was pristine, but the lettering was horrible, it ruined my pre cruise photos, 1 star, won't sail again

SPS got a reaction from gabeb848 in Single FlowRider and other changes on Wonder of the Seas
Ya know, I never gave much thought to amenity and activity differences in ships for different markets. As far as the sports court & mini-golf is concerned, doesn't that green patch look like a mini-golf area on the starboard side? Also it look like a couple of extra holes are on the port side.
Anyone else concerned that the Flow Rider appears to be flowing toward the rear and a little close to the edge? It almost looks like the "less weighty" among us (not me!) could be launched over and into the Aqua Theater!

SPS reacted to JLMoran in Z-plasty? WTH is a Z-plasty? (Yet *another* nahtacruz blog)
So the surgery went without a hitch. Got there at 6:15, was being carted into the OR right on time at 7:30. A few minutes later, I was in blackout from whatever cocktail they put in my IV before wheeling me in there.
I woke up at 8:30, zero pain in the foot. Doc said the local injections he was giving me should be good for 8, maybe even 10 hours. He also said, and this is the part I wasn’t so thrilled to hear, that the skin was pretty tight after he sutured everything up. Even with the Z-plasty approach he used. His estimate is a 50-75% chance this is going to work.
He said he was debating going the full skin graft right then and there while I was on the table, but decided to take a wait-and-see approach. There was nothing bad about the underlying tissue, and all the surrounding tissue looked good, so I guess he wants to see if I’ve got just enough Wolverine-type healing factor to pull it off.
It’s just wrapped in an ace bandage, with packing underneath where he worked. No weight restrictions, but I do need to keep it elevated as much as possible over the next couple of days at least.
He said on Wednesday I can remove all the bandaging and take a normal shower. No need to wrap the site in plastic or anything, but at the same time I shouldn’t scrub it or anything else “aggressive”. And then I’ll just need some gauze pads to cover it, and I can wear a regular sock.
Fingers crossed this is as “mild” a recovery as he’s thinking it’ll be!

SPS reacted to Matt in Royal Caribbean to require crew to be vaccinated
Please leave the political discussion out of this.  This thread is about RC requiring crew to get the vaccine.
I don't care how funny you think your joke about any politician is, it has no place here.
Most of you are well aware of this rule, and the fact someone else posts it doesnt give you carte blanche to respond back.  Report it and the mods will deal with it.
This is not the forum for political discussion. Nor is it the place to discuss alternative theories on how vaccines "work".
If your post doesn't include something about cruising, it doesn't belong here.
I know some of you are reading this and thinking "Can't we have civil discussions?" or "Why are you censoring us?" or "Why does @Lovetocruise2002start her live blogs so darn early?"
The reality is you will convince no one that you're right and they are wrong. All it does it antagonize everyone, make some people truly angry, and lead to insults, name calling, and pages of arguments that are meaningless.
Consider this the final warning on the political discussion.

I'll have to dig around for the third party excursion link we used to book it. (All, is it allowed to post third party excursion links here?)
I know that recently, RC cruise planners with St. Maarten port stops have "Topper's Rhum Tour & Beach" excursions listed.
Also, Topper's FB page has listed that, as of November, they have a new location that incorporates the Rum Distillery and the Restaurant/Bar into one waterfront location!

Last January, we booked a third party excursion to visit Topper's Rhum, a local distillery with MANY varieties of rum available for tasting.
In addition, it included lunch at Topper's restaurant and a couple hours of semi-private beach time. (Transportation included)
The year before, we rented a small car to drive over to the French side to go parasailing at Orient Beach and also to visit Topper's Rhum. (What can I say, we like their products!)
Agree with @AlmondFarmer, the nude beach does not live up to any teenage fantasies you've ever had! 😆

I certainly noticed and lamented my "one year since my last cruise" anniversary.

SPS got a reaction from CruisingOz in Worried there are no shore excursions listed?
    Hey, @CruisingOz, just an FYI.
I've had previous bookings that have added more excursion options closer to the sail date.
For example, last January, we were looking to do something in San Juan at the end of the cruise and were finding very limited offerings (We had a late afternoon flight) At around 3-4 months out, more options became available that included airport drop off (Perfect!).
Of course, take this info with a grain of salt right with the situation we face right now.

SPS reacted to jticarruthers in Some possible kudos to the cruise lines
I think we have all experienced and voiced some frustrations with the cruise lines over the slowness of refunds, etc. during the crisis but I had an interesting conversation with a travel agent yesterday while volunteering at the SuperBowl (yes shameless plug).
He indicated that the "lines" (he didn't state which) have still been paying commission out on cruises that are paid in full and then cancelled due to the rolling cancellations. He said it has been a lifesaver for them to at least have some revenue coming in even though the cruise lines aren't actually getting that revenue since they are rolling it all forward in FCC or refunds.
Probably something that isn't supposed to be talked about but I thought I would put it out there to see if anyone else has any knowledge of the subject.
If true I am glad that they are trying to keep their TA partners going as well.

My son (enjoys a variety of spirits, but not a huge rum guy) took the Royal excursion to Topper's and a beach. Reported that he enjoyed the tour and tasting.
