I used to think I hated rum, then I found Watling's in Nassau.  They make a great pina colada, we picked up two bottles of the amber and a bottle of the Buena Vista aged rum.  The Buena Vista goes great with a cigar.

And now for something completely different...
Have a look at the Canada & New England Cruises. They typically run in the fall out of Baltimore, Boston & Cape Liberty.

I totally concur with the negative comments about regarding Falmouth. We were there last year and there are plenty of upscale, midscale and downscale shops within the fenceline, ie, compound where you can find souvenirs. There is also a Margaritaville that has free wifi along with all the Margaritaville food and beverages. I ventured, by myself,up to the gate that goes into Falmouth proper and I didn't even attempt to leave the compound. What I saw was a bunch of very seedy looking street vendors with rag tag booths.

As aggressive as the straw market can be, Falmouth can be much worse.  I do recommend going outside the gates, but only with organized tours, as has been said.  Royal Caribbean often has a tour that includes shopping.  Otherwise, the area in the dock area is VERY nice and has lots of shopping.  Although your family may be looking for more "authentic" goods.

I agree with Tiny.  The shopping compound in Falmouth is very new, large, clean and safe.
I don't say this very often but I would recommend that you stay inside the compound in Falmouth to do your souvenir shopping unless you're with an organized group.  At almost any other port I would say to get out AWAY from the compound to find the bargains but not in Falmouth.  I find the locals to be extremely aggressive and shopping immediately outside of the compound is not the best part of town.  I never felt unsafe...just uncomfortable.
Excursions are a different situation, entirely.  If you are with a group I would say you'll be fine...but I would not want my sisters or mother or any other females out by themselves in town, in Falmouth.

This is Royal's shopping web page, just look up Jamaica, these are the official sponsored pages I'm sure there are plenty of other's that Royal doesn't sponsor. If you come in to Falmouth which I'm pretty sure is where Oasis docks, there is a large shopping center right at the pier.

We did the Conch train when we got to Key West, we thought it was worth it.  Key West is pretty easy to do on your own.  On Nassau we did the Charm and Beauty tour, not a bad tour.  Honestly if we ever go back to Nassau we probably won't get off the ship, it was OK but the sell pressure was high.

I just wanted to give a review of what my wife and I did on our 4 night cruise.  The Charm and Beauty of Nassau was one of the cheaper tours and it gave you an overall feeling of the island.  This tour started off as bad as it possibly could.  First, we met the only rude RC crew member on our cruise (in hindsight she wasn't that bad but rude none the less).  She acted like everyone should know what to do already and she was annoyed that people were asking questions about where to go.  When we finally got to where we waited for the tour there were two buses (the small Nissan tour buses), they overbooked the tour.  Our bus was packed to the point of using the jumper seats down the middle of the isle.  Not good.  So our tour guide started the tour, his name was Roy and Roy saved this experience for everyone.  He was funny, knowledgeable, and had a great delivery.  We went through the island, some places were short on charm and beauty, but I am a firm believer that you should experience as much as possible to understand the people.  We saw many of the government building, received a Bahamian civic lesson, and stopped at three stops. First was Fort Charlotte, nice, we opted out of the tour since we only had 20 minutes.  The little market at the fort was lower pressure than the straw market.  Then we stopped at the little beach area down from Fish Fry Rd.  This area offered a nice picture opportunity of the port.  Then we stopped at John Watling's Distillery.  I highly recommend this short tour, you will discover the best pina colada you have ever had.  After that we headed back to the port.  If you have never been to Nassau I recommend this excursion, it was cheap and gave a good overview.  Roy really saved the tour and he got a nice tip from us.

Yes, hook line and sinker hooked, I felt so welcome on Enchantment.  I prepaid gratuities but ended up leaving our attendant another $50 because he was so great.  One morning he asked if we needed anything, all we had was flavored tea in the room so I asked if he could get me some Earl Grey tea.  We came back to the room and there was 40 packs of Earl Grey tea.  Now this was a grand suite, does that have anything to do with it?  This time since kiddies are going and it isn't our anniversary we opted for a promenade room, I hope the service is comparable.  The info on Jamaica saddens me a little.  We stopped at Nassau on the last cruise and I have never felt so pressured as I did in the straw market, surely it's not that bad.  When we did Coco we got on the first tender and came back with the crew on the last tender.  We loved it, and I've heard Labadee is even better.

My wife and I took our first cruise in June for our 15th anniversary (4 day Bahamas) and absolutely fell in love with cruising.  We just booked our 2nd cruise, this time on Oasis.  It's a 7 day cruise to Labadee, Jamaica, and Cozumel.  Any opinions on the ship or itinerary?  By the way, I received some advice on here for the first cruise and it was all on point so thanks!

When is your cruise? If you have some time, and haven't already, become familiar with persicoping and check out the Persicoping forum here. You can watch people currently on your ship show you around. :)

Congratulations!  It sounds like you now have the cruise bug.

I haven't been on the Oasis yet myself, but I will be on her sister in the coming months and have done the Freedom class.  From everything I've read and what I've experienced on the Freedom class, you're in for a fabulous experience.  I'd also recommend, if your budget allows, to consider trying at least one of the specialty restaurants.

I haven't been to Jamaica yet, but will be their for the first time in 2018.  Somehow I've missed it and Labadee in all of my cruise with Royal and missed Jamaica in my 25 cruises.  Many talk about Dunn's River Falls.  Personally, I'm likely going to use Resorts for a Day or just go to Margaritaville.  In Cozumel, we went to a beach club, Mr. Sanchos, and really enjoyed the experience.

Thanks for the info.  I've been told you either like cruising or hate it.  Maybe the next we will take the kids...or not.
