We were planning on taking our next cruise to St. Maarten. My wife and I were planning a long weekend in March on Key West... Damn hurricanes. Hope everyone stays as safe as possible .

Great thoughts from everyone. I grew up in coastal New England and love it, but the New England cruises get such poor reviews. I partly assumed some of this was the fact that mostly angry people or critiques write reviews. Yeah, I knew there was a bunch in the Caribbean we were missing. I want to do St. Martin next or Bermuda but will consider New England a bit more. Living in West Virginia means to get to New England I have to get through the dreaded New York/Connecticut corridor, the drive would be more pleasant on a cruise ship I think.

We are on Oasis August 6th, we actually opted for a limo from the airport to the Residence Inn and an SUV on the way back from the port. Uber was only a little cheaper, taxi was crazy, and as others have said the one way rental wasn't bad to the port but back from the port a little higher. My wife scoffed at the idea of a limo at first, but when she saw the prices she came around to my side. The kids are going to love it and we are already spending too much for the cruise anyway. The SUV is 165 with gratuity, if I remember correctly and the limo maybe 20 more.

We've done a 4 night cruise on Enchantment (Nassau, Coco Cay, Key west) and we are on Oasis in August (Labadee, Falmouth, and Cozumel). I would like suggestions for our next cruise. We would prefer departing from East Coast ports (New England down to Miami). My wife and I took to cruising like fish to water. We loved the Caribbean but would probably go anywhere. Basically is there a consensus on a few stellar itineraries?

We booked an excursion through Peat Taylor in Falmouth Jamaica. Has anyone used them? We are doing Rose Hall Great House and then shopping in Montego Bay. I picked them based on Trip Advisor reviews. I am a little nervous since the only excursions I booked were through RC.

I used to think I hated rum, then I found Watling's in Nassau. They make a great pina colada, we picked up two bottles of the amber and a bottle of the Buena Vista aged rum. The Buena Vista goes great with a cigar.

Oasis 7 Day Western Caribbean Shopping Question
blawmtih replied to blawmtih's topic in Shore Excursions
Great advice and thanks. We were in Nassau last June and felt the Straw Market was a bit aggressive, neither my wife or I liked it very much. We were going back and forth between the different excursions, we have 3 kids coming along as well, trying to figure out the best thing to do. I would hate to stay on the ship the whole time, part of the reason I like cruising is the access, albeit limited access, to other countries and culture. -

Stewman's is good and The Travelin' Lobster (Lobstah). I can't say I've ever been fully disappointed in Bar Harbor.

The wife, sister-in-law, and mother-in-law want to do a little shopping in Jamaica. Can anyone recommend a good place or excursion for souvenirs? Thanks

Are there must see shows on Oasis of the Seas? How far in advance can you make entertainment reservations?

Thanks, I don't know why I didn't notice the 18% tip on the receipts. Cruises do something to your attention to financial detail.

A few questions. We are heading out for 7 nights in August on Oasis, true or not, can you use Starbucks gift cards to pay at the Starbucks kiosk? I have heard convincing answers of yes and no on the internet. Second, how busy is it once settled in? I know the first night on Enchantment seemed super busy, but as everyone settled things got pretty laid back. Third, any little idiosyncrasies about the ship I should know about? We are sailing with a 71 year old man (father-in-law) who can get cranky in large crowds, how much should I worry? He likes his gin and tonic and already got the drink package, I am hoping this keeps him mellowed out. This one may cause a firestorm, but, I will ask anyway. I don't drink soda but I plan on getting the drink package. My daughter enjoys an occasional soda at dinner or lunch. I know it isn't completely right, but is there harm in giving her my soda cup if I'm not using it and she rarely uses it? Lastly, I am still confused about gratuities and the drink package. Are they included? I always gave the bartender a buck on beer and wine and two bucks on cocktails, but was never certain. Thanks, you folks have been so helpful in the past.

We did the Conch train when we got to Key West, we thought it was worth it. Key West is pretty easy to do on your own. On Nassau we did the Charm and Beauty tour, not a bad tour. Honestly if we ever go back to Nassau we probably won't get off the ship, it was OK but the sell pressure was high.

ROYAL CARIBBEAN changing drinks packages!
blawmtih replied to J_Keeble's topic in Royal Caribbean News and Rumors
I just checked today, during our 7-day cruise on Oasis August of '17 there is only one alcohol package for 48/day with the 20% off. It doesn't mention grat. anywhere. -

This was an awesome tour. Saw some great wildlife, including a wonderful lagerhead turtle. The tour guides were fantastic and knowledgeable. One would dive in and grab things like sponges while the other one was at the wheel. Great show and highly recommended. It only took an hour, but I would not recommend a cabana if you are doing this since you lose an hour at the cabana. The Cabana was great, our own semi-private spot on the beach. We used the gratis snorkel equipment, which we may have skipped of we hadn't purchased the cabana. The lunch was OK, not the best meal we had. The cabana overall was well worth it.
