  1. I feel that the RC policy isn't enough for what I really want it for which is emergency medical evacuation. If you were truly in an emergency and needed to be helicoptered off, I've heard that the cost can be more (minimum $10K for a medical helicopter, minimum $25K from an island to a US hospital). I personally get coverage in the $100K range through CF (partnered through USAA) for less than RC quotes. You can get quotes from insuremytrip.com or squaremouth.com to compare several companies and quotes.
  2. That makes sense but I would price out the cost of a one way rental from the Ft Myers airport to the Miami airport vs the cost of parking for 4 days. For rental car rates, do you have AAA or some other membership (Costco) where I find cheaper rates than directly online.
  3. Can I ask why you need to fly out of Ft. Myers? I understand your desire to fly in to see your in laws but not to drive back to Ft Myers to fly out of there especially if you won't see your in laws on the way out. The days of cheaper round trip plane tickets are long gone. I find my cheapest air fare is one way and typically 2 different airlines, for me that is SW and Jet Blue. I often fly one down and the other back. I do check area airports (MIA, FLL and Ft Myers) and will balance the cost, time and transportation to decide on my flight. Double check that your transportation fee to Ft Myers plus plane ticket is less than the cost of a flight from MIA or FLL.
  4. Many will say a flight after noon will be safe. It depends on what ship and port you'll be on but after noon usually works. Just realize that if you book a really late flight, you can only check your luggage in to the airline 4 hours before your flight. However, depending on the airport you may have options for that too.
  5. So sorry to hear this. My extended family has had really bad luck on Southwest this week. At least 2 cancelled flights trying to get in for a wedding. One family was still able to make it but the other just cancelled as they would not have made it in time. While yours was weather related, I think the others were shifts of planes due to the Max 8 problems. Following along as always!
  6. My cruise in 11 months for March 2020 and I can book MTD, 3 night dining package, spa and some shore excursions (perfect day). Most other things except entertainment on Q and O classes are about 9 months out.
  7. You can only pre-book the comedy club once. You could do standby if they want to see it again, however, it is pretty much the same comedians and same material.
  8. I always take my phone off the setting to set time automatically. That way assuming the ship time doesn't change, then your phone will stay on ship time. I've never had a Caribbean cruise change time but it is up to the Captain to decide if and when to change time.
  9. Which ship? You can only pre-book entertainment on Oasis and Quantum class ships. There is no set date for entertainment to open. Lately, I've been seeing that you can book entertainment around 60-90 days before the cruise. My next cruise is on Symphony and I finally saw it open 58 days before. It isn't like Disney where if you don't book on the first day, then you can't get what you want. Just keep checking every week starting at about 90 days out.
  10. I was in the Navy too and my Navy friends laugh about how much I love to be on a cruise ship especially as I didn't love being underway for my job. The only thing I really miss on cruises is seeing the stars. There's too much light really see the stars.
  11. We currently have 5 (2 more this year, 2 in 2020 and 1 in 2021). Everyone laughs at me when I say I have cruises out to 2021, but when I explain I lock in my prices now and can get my money back if things change, they feel differently. Looking for a few more as I'm getting closer to diamond and trying to work out a plan that my husband will go for.
  12. Try the non-drowsy ginger Dramamine. Its good for mild motion especially the first night. Also have had good luck with Bonine which is also non-drowsy.
  13. The lower decks can make my daughter and I sick if I look out a lower window. So if you have an Ov room keep the shades closed. Sit her away from the MDR windows. We typically get rooms on deck 8-10 and unless the seas are rough we are ok. Then Tazos ginger green tea really helps me!
  14. Both can be done on your own. You dock in Old San Juan which is an easy taxi or longish walk to the forts. We go to one fort then wander our way through Old San Juan shops on our way back to the ship. St. Maarten has a beach about a 15 minute walk from the cruise port or a quick water taxi ride. That area called Great Bay beach has many shops and restaurants in the area too.
  15. Its similar to a curling iron but straightens hair. Instead of the round shape of a curling iron, this is actually a flat wand and a necessity when dealing with Caribbean humidity!
  16. There is no way to know if your cruise will be offered the same deal. Possibly but maybe not. It would depend on a number of factors including how many packages did they sell pre-cruise. What is the current price of the drink package in your cruise planner? This deal ends up to be $49.50 per person per day and I've found the drink package on my cruise planners to be about $49 but your sailing may be different. Typically you can only get fountain drinks, no cans. However, any bar on either the ship or CoCo Cay will put fountain soda in a cup for you. Here is what the official restrictions say on the cruise compass. "Guests under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult." Since your niece is legally an adult, I'd say they would be ok with her. Sometimes they can be funny about taking kids off the ship so the parents should probably take them off but once on the island, they probably won't be questioned. Of course, the waterpark isn't open so no one really knows the rules but typically that is the case.
  17. I think that would be fine. It appears to fit through an x-ray machine which is all you really need.
  18. Go to your name on the upper right hand corner, click on settings and then signature.
  19. I don't know if you will have luck for a specific sailing here. You may want to see if there is a Facebook page for your sailing and ask there. You can also try the roll call over at Cruise Critic.
  20. For my 5 night Indy cruise, formal night was night 2. I agree that the app is very glitchy and not very accurate. I would just print out the email confirmation.
  21. Around 60-90 days prior to your cruise, you can make show reservations on Oasis and Q class ships. You can make reservations for some activities (iFly, North Star, Skypad). You can make reservations for the Flowrider but it will cost you $$$ by booking a class or private time. Otherwise you need to stand in line or possibly purchase the Key as it could offer times with lower lines.
  22. This is one thing I have learned on the message boards. Those lessons learned usually comes from topics like this where the OP has a legitimate complaint but failed to know the rules and/or where to find info. I print everything from airline and hotel confirmations to all 56 pages of my travel insurance documents. You never know when or what you'll need when things go wrong.
  23. +1 on the above. The choices are very limited. I was worried about running out of sunscreen and couldn't find it anywhere on the ship! I know I've seen sunscreen on other ships so was surprised when my last cruise didn't have it.
  24. My opinion is to always go for 2 rooms. Besides the 2 bathrooms, you can actually have a conversation in the evening when the kiddos are asleep or you can sleep in a bit if they are early risers. We don't spend that much time in our room besides dressing and sleeping so the extra space is worthless to me.
  25. I used my iphone with a wrist strap to take a really bad video of the ground. They didn't say anything about it.
