I like the prices but I cannot book when the Cruise is $1,400 and the flight is $5,000 for economy class.

I heard ya.  I recently got an Airline Miles card and with Summer ‘25 being so far out I’m going to book a cruise, with my Miles CC, and hope I’ll have enough points to cover at least some of my airfare (3 of us).  I don’t have many summers left when both my kids are still living in my house, so damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead.

  2. I hope you let Royal and Carnival know what you think, because posting on an internet message board is going to change anything or matter at all to them.

Sad to say, I don’t think Royal or Carnival will care though.  They are full speed ahead on scooping up new first time cruisers.  That, combined with the insane demand they’re seeing right now, isn’t really going to motivate them to change back.  Quite the opposite really.  We do appear to be heading towards a recession in 2024, so that may cause demand to dip.  If so it may cause Royal to start listening more.  However, a decrease in demand is NOT going to make them start printing a daily Compass.  Again, quite the opposite as it saves them money.

I’ve got some cruises planned on a few different classes of ship with Royal and I’m going to really evaluate which one I think is best for me and will likely start to focus in on that class.  Oddly enough, the ship I’m most looking forward to is a Radiance Class ship (I have other sailings on Voyager and Oasis class ships and am still looking for a Quantum Class ship to go on).  That would be my only other suggestion to you is to go try a Vision or Radiance Class ship if you prefer the cruising style from the previous century, it was nice era after all.

Oh, and I 100% agree with you on having to rely on your phone so much.  I hate that, and it isn’t just with cruising either, it’s everywhere on vacation - fights, hotels, theme parks, transportation, it never ends.

  3. “Here’s my list of complaints (that I mention aren’t problems on other ships), but I’m never leaving Royal.”

-Most Oasis Class ships don’t have Dazzles

-Johnny Rocket, could’ve just been your sailing, they’ve always been busy on the ships I’ve been on

-Ports, by definition, are industrial zones.  I guess Royal could go built their Veneer Ports like they do in other parts of the world, but then that hour drive you’re complaining about is going to increase to a 2 or 3 hour drive because they’ll have to go way outside the city to build it.

-Honestly, where would the put a Sea Plex?  They’d have to remove a large revenue center and I don’t see them spending millions on renovations to make less money.

-Not sure what you mean by the top deck needs more Lime and Coconut decor.  I feel like that’s all the top two decks are.

Nice to see Royal already know what will be in the region almost one year ahead... Someone was very hurry to pull the trigger.

It isn’t like finding a parking spot at the grocery store.  These things get planned out years in advance typically.  Honestly, they don’t have time to wait to see what happens.  Once the fighting stops it will be 6 months to a year before ships return, but they will return.

  5. Was really excited when we booked this cruise, for obvious reasons, but then got disappointed when the attacks started.  However, with the announcement today of our new itinerary I’m once again beyond excited about this cruise.

    Day 1 - Athens

    Day 2 - Istanbul (3PM)

    Day 3 - Istanbul (until 9PM)

    Day 4 - At Sea

    Day 5 - Mykonos

    Day 6 - Santorini

    Day 7 - Ephesus (Kusadasi)

    Day 8 - Athens

Shore Excursions haven’t been released yet, but I can’t wait to see what’s offered, especially in Istanbul.  Anyone have any Recs for these new ports?

I see your logic, but my counter is

    1. Literally no one is going to book a cruise just to purchase a model.
    2. Many people have reported that the models are not available when they are on a ship, so what are they to do in that case?

It is what it is, It's Royal's decision to make, I just don't agree with it.

I assure you that your #1 is absolutely not true.  It may not be a large number, but there are people that choose cruises for much pettier and crazier reasons.

But if you’re want a model of Ship X and you see a weekend cruise on that Ship pop up, it might just be enough to get you to book it.  I’m not saying it’s the sole reason, but for a much larger group of people it could be enough to get them to book a cruise they previously hadn’t planned on booking or it could be enough to get them to choose one cruise over another.

I have also wondered when Royal started doing this. 3 of the ships that I am missing (Adventure, Enchantment, Brilliance), I sailed those ships in 2002, 2003, 2005 and I don't recall seeing them. Now, I wasn't a cruise nut/addict back then, but I still cannot recall seeing them anywhere.

I sailed on Rhapsody 3 times in the 90s, that’s the one ship from that time period I could still get.  I also sailed on Splendor which is no longer in the fleet and there may have been a 3rd, but I can’t remember.

Agreed, seems like a way they could make some extra money selling merchandise online.

So the argument against this is instead of you being able to go online and order one from Royal, you actually have book a cruise plus spend $50 for the ship.  Even if you could increase ship sales by 10X, that isn’t going to make Royal more money.  While frustrating for fans/collectors like us, it is in Royal’s best interest to only sell these on the ships.

  8. I’ve decided I’m going to start doing this.  Most of my cruising was done in the 90s as a teen and honestly I don’t even know if they sold them back then.  I was on the Radiance about 10 yrs ago, again, didn’t get one, nor did I when I was on the Oasis in March.  However, I got one of the Voyager in June and will get one on Adventure in 20 days when I board.  I’ve got 3 more planned after that and will likely book another cruise once the 2025 sailings come out.  Not quite sure where I’ll display the, though, maybe on my built-ins as well.  I also keep my Sea Pass cards.

I have 2 family members who cruise WAY more than I do so I’m sure I can get one of them to get me a Radiance and Oasis model if they sail on them before I do.

  9. For those that are excited about this I am happy for you.  However, this does nothing for me.  Would much rather have a Cruise Countdown feature instead.  Or better deck plans.  Or please, for the love of God Royal, please put an itinerary map out there somewhere.  I don’t care if it’s only on the App or website, but just put it out there.  You’re the only major cruise line that doesn’t do this.

For this price, they better put Allure through the full amplification process when she's dry docked that Spring! No excuses now with the huge profits they're reporting now!

Just curious where you saw that Allure is getting amplified?  Have they announced what they’ll be adding to it?  I like this itinerary and maybe booking it in a few weeks.

  11. Will be porting overnight in Alexandria next June.  Our first day in Alexandria they are only offering 3 shore excursions through RCCL - on our second day in port we’re doing the pyramids and museums.  My question is, what’s our best option for Day 1?  The RCCL tours offered are El Alamein, Landmarks of Alexandria, and Panoramic Alexandria.  Has anyone done these and would you recommend them or is there a 3rd party tour you’d recommend?

    Thanks
