  1. Yesterday, the "amidst the icebergs by RIB" excursion in Nanortalik went on sale. I tried to book it, but the Royal IT department struck again. This morning, it's sold out, even though it says 6 slots available. Is anyone else in the same situation? Maybe royal expands the tour, but I doubt it. Would anyone be interested in going in together on a private excursion similar to this one?
  2. I'm going! Really looking forward to it! Has anyone ever been there before? Does anyone know what to pack?
  3. Thanks for the well wishes. It looks like a lost cause in my case. Overnight, the remaining slots sold out, so people were able to book even though I couldn't. I'm going to express my frustrations with Royal, but I doubt there's much they can do. Nanortalik Greenland only has 1000 residents. It is unlikely they can find anyone to expand the tour, and I don't expect them to bump someone off for me. The Crown and Anchor agent suggested I wait until I get on board in case someone cancels. Doesn't seem promising.
  4. I send an email to [email protected]. I include proof of ownership (i.e. brokerage statement), ship, sail date, booking number, room number and my name. It always works for me.
  5. Thanks! So far no luck for me. However, others have been booking the excursion. Only 6 spots left. I'll call as soon as the call center opens. Hopefully, I can still grab a slot.
  6. I was able to find a couple items for a few dollars cheaper. However, I found an excursion that I really want to book. The website says it cannot charge my credit card at this time. I called, and they had the same problem. The agent said this has been an ongoing issue for the past 3 days for certain sailings. This is very frustrating as the excursion went on sale today and already 6 of the 7 time slots are sold out.
  7. While I agree with Bobroo's comment, it might be easiest to meet at the hard Rock Cafe. It's across the street from the international pier and an easy walk from the pier where princess docks. If you happen to dock near downtown, you can catch a cab
  8. While you raise a good point, I don't think it is going to be a problem. Uber and Lyft both have contracts now, so the number of rideshare companies is increasing. Since it hasn't stopped people from sailing so far, I don't see it stopping them in the future. The other thing is that most people sail out of Galveston because they can drive there. I forget the exact number, but it was over 80% drive. For these people, the ride to the airport is irrelevant.
  9. My first impression was that they were overpriced. I've been watching them, but instead of coming down, the cabanas have been selling out! I can't blame Royal for charging what the market will bear. Even if I'm not willing to pay that much. On my cruises, basic cabanas are going for over $1300. Exotic ones, like over the water are going for over $4000!
  10. I've had two occasions where air2sea moved mountains and saved my trip. I discussed them before, so I won't go in to detail here, but I always do air2sea. My past experiences justify any additional costs.
  11. Well...kinda... I understand they don't have nude sunbathing, but according to the very unofficial travel guide they do have a wild pool party where nudity wouldn't be frowned upon. (2) Insane ADULTS ONLY Cruise Activities on Virgin Voyages Valiant Lady and Scarlet Lady Cruise Ships - YouTube
  12. For Australia and New Zealand, I'd suggest looking at Celebrity. They have more varied and better itineraries.
  13. Let's not forget south Korea, Japan and maybe Indonesia. China has a fair number of families that can afford it, but the average Chinese can't.
  14. It's unlikely you'll find topless or nude sunbathing allowed on a Royal ship. If that's really important to you, perhaps you could check out Virgin Voyages. If you really want topless on Royal, then I'd suggest one of the older voyager class ships with the cave like balconies. Just be sure you are on one, like Adventure, that actually has these balconies and your room is not visible from other parts of the ship. It won't be sanctioned by the cruise line, but they probably won't do anything about it either.
  15. Is the gas station worth the hype? Maybe. It's huge and unusual. Sells nothing you need and everything you can't live without. And it's right on I-45 at exit 17. On the other hand, it's expanding beyond Texas, so you may have one closer to home. Also, they're doing major construction on I-45 which makes stopping more of a chore, especially going northbound.
  16. I was on her 2 weeks ago. The wipeout cafe has been rebranded as El Loco Fresh. Have a great trip!
  17. It's always struck me that the Genting Dream is a bad fit for DCL and don't think it will be a big threat. Much has been said about it being the largest ship in the world with 9000 passengers. It may have a huge capacity, but is physically smaller than Oasis of the seas. How many of you call more people in less volume luxury? Further, DCL is known for family accommodations. But this ship is pretty far along to change the cabins. Therefore, it won't have the DCL cabin perks like a split bathroom. Will it do ok in Singapore? Maybe. Will it be a Royal killer? I doubt it.
  18. Welcome to the world of cruising! There's no doubt that it isn't what it was a couple years ago, but it's still amazing. You'll be impressed by the service, amenities and activities. The food probably won't blow you away, but most people feel it's good. Go in with a positive attitude, and you'll probably wonder how it could be better.
  19. I looked into it once, because I felt the same way. If memory serves, it was put to a vote and the locals voted against it. There was concern it would alter the character of the town. I wish they would reconsider. Tampico looks like a really nice port from the pictures and reviews.
  20. That would mesh with my recent experience. On my recent Allure sail. It was unusable when I was in a crowded venue, like the theater. It was ok when I wasn't, such as my room or diamond lounge. This indicates the access points were overloaded. Internet won't be quick when your access point is overloaded!
  21. I've sailed every class and enjoyed every one. Each offers its own charms. My favorite is Liberty of the Seas. But really depends on your cruising style. Bigger ships mean more activities and toys. Smaller ships mean more relaxation and more personal service.
  22. I've done a few GTY cabins and never been disappointed. Just be sure you're ok with a badly located cabin in exchange for a good price. Oh! And something else to consider...many people that would never consider a gty cabin will gladly pay for a royal up upgrade, which is effectively a gty cabin of a higher category. Go figure!
  23. Johnny, welcome to the world of cruising! Warning: it is very addictive. You asked about what to do on your first day. It's a great set of questions. The most important thing is to have a to do list. Generally, I knock out the to do list while the family has fun. It doesn't seem fair, but that's how we handle it. Most items can wait for another day, but things tend to be less busy when you first board. Once knocked out, you've got 7 glorious days to enjoy
  24. I'm on allure. Central Park looks pretty brown. They are putting in new plants, but it's going to be a while. These pics probably capture the worst of it
