  1. Yeah....I didn't mean to say you thought June...I was saying I dont think Royal will be sailing June 12 like they say now..AND I agree with your start up thought process Even July could be a stretch though.....it will take awhile to get things going....its not just about the ships sailing..its about flights and hotels and places to eat.....but sailings out of Florida of mostly Florida residents would be a good place to start for sure....
  2. Yeah, that doesn't look good. Royal is obviously not planning on cruising anytime soon based on that. I agree with @AGSLC5…..seems like the most logical and economically viable option for Royal to try and start up again once they are allowed....I am still having doubts its going to be June though...
  3. Well according to everything I have seen and heard and read from the Canadian government...that certainly seems to be the general consensus…..I cant leave my province it sounds like till that happends..so they sure as hell aren't unloading cruise ships with thousands of forgien people to wander around Canada's ports.... large gatherings, concerts, festivals and sports events cancelled till at least Jan, 2021......so while cruise ships aren't mentioned, safe to assume they wont let 3000 ppl show up on a dock. In all likelihood I will miss my 2nd cruise this year in Nov......as will all Canadians..and anyone who isn't a Canadian shouldn't plan on visiting Canada in any way shape or form either...
  4. Better hope there is a vaccine by then..as it sounds like in Canada our borders will be closed till there is.....so 12-18mths from now would be when it could start back up...
  5. UPDATE>>>>>> got mine back 30 days exactly to the day I requested my refund.....good for Royal!
  6. Dropped to $65 CAD or about $45USD day for my Odyssey cruise..but I am not sure I want to drop almost $1000 yet on a cruise that may not happen.....may regret not booking at this price as its down about 25% but..
  7. I have my airfare booked for my Nov Odyssey cruise back home as I was able to switch my flights with United from the April cancellation. But I dont have the flight down booked yet....it was down to $107, but now its over $150...not sure if it will keep climbing and then in the back of my mind I am worried about if the Nov cruise is cancelled or delayed and I have to re-book again or sit on credits again...tough call right now..
  8. Rest of the year cancelled from NYC?..seems a little drastic...the governor today just spoke about looking at steps to soon start opening things up slowly...while no dates were given..cancelling cruises for Nov/Dec seem a little far out to predict?! I suppose of the seasonal only run till Sept it would make sense...Royal runs year round out of NJ....I dont think they would cancel 8 mths out yet?!
  9. I really hope so....there has to be a light at the end of the tunnel to give us all some hope....
  10. @RCIfan1912 I would say that's almost a personal attack on whoever that statement is directed towards..... i
  11. Defn a concern I have for my cruise in November. Although I see things perhaps opening up late summer, but if the cases increase or another outbreak hits, then its all shut down again for months. Here in NB, we have been lucky wih the Covid numbers....hardly a blip on the screen..yet we have been shut down for 6 weeks and no indication the end is in sight...….
  12. Well, funny to see people here talking about Royal potentially going bankrupt, another 3-6 months of cruising etc......I seem to remember not that long ago when I said that Covid was a bigger deal then ppl here were making it, and that it was going to become much more serious for Royal and the cruise industry than anyone thought.......now it seems that I was even being naïve in how bad it was going to get...…. I really have no idea where this is going to go....here in Canada and in my home province, its been 6 weeks of shut downs.....only 3 ppl in the whole province in ICU from this and more cases recovered then currently fighting it...and yet there is NO talk or indication of anything going back to normal. Vancouver is on the edge of bankruptcy (3rd biggest city in Canada)...this is far from over and the financial devastation is going to be unimaginable and the effects felt for years.
  13. That's interesting....wonder if anyone has noticed that? I am waiting for my refund as well, but the cruise date was supposed to be April 17th...so something I will defn be watching for as well.
  14. I have flown them twice..both times for very cheap and no issues.....I dont mind paying those prices compared to over $600 or more to fly a local Canadian carrier. That being said, prices have gone up for flights in November we are looking at for our Odyssey cruise. Cruise prices sure aren't following a lower trajectory yet!
  15. Seems this is the trend....its going to backfire on Royal if these are the prices they are trying to collect on. I was looking at some cruises in Jan/Feb 2021...I would say most are 25% higher than they were before this happened..then increase the drink packages by 40-50%......you dont need a degree in economics or business to know this isn't going to work out in Royal's favor... While many "loyal to Royal" ppl will be willing to cruise( and perhaps pay these ridiculous prices)…..the average American who is wary about cruising to start with, isn't cruising with these costs...
  16. That is some of it for sure..but the fight between SA and Russia is what really drove it down and is keeping it there.... Saudia Arabia ramped up production to max limits a few weeks ago, and Russia did as well when they couldn't agree to cut production with OPEC+....they didn't care about lower demand.
  17. 2 things I take away from this....it said that cruise prices would be slashed?! I have seen no indication from Royal on this..if anything, everything is MORE expensive. Secondly, As shown in even a poll on this site...how quickly will you start to cruise once it opens up....I think it was about 60% said right away....and that's for HARD core Royal cruise fans......just over half. Imagine how long its going to take to attract and keep new clients to cruise. I am sad to see this, but I think this is a big blow to the cruise industry...not sure what it will look like in a year from now...smaller? cheaper? bankrupt? less ships and options? Hard to say......all I know is that this turned into a pretty big deal I would say..like Epic and Historic are a couple words that come to mind..good thing I was never accused of overreacting a couple of mths ago here.....hmmmm..lol
  18. Thats insane.....that's about a 150% increase in the past 7 years for drink packages.. Talk about your head in the clouds.....during or after this worldwide epidemic that is really hitting the cruise industry...so start upping prices like that. This complaints and pictures of drink package pricing at Royal is all I have been seeing for the past 2 days......lots of extra negative press for Royal and the cruise industry. Stupid move on Royals part....this is NOT the time to do anything to deter people from booking or even thinking about cruises. I can tell you here that not ONE of my friends who if I told them those drink prices would ever sign up for a cruise... In Canadian dollars...that's about $157/day with grats/….per person!!..WTH??!!…$2200 for a 7 day cruise for drinks....I wont ever be cruising with Royal again if that's what its come to....and a lot of others wont be either. Royal is going to continue to price themselves out of the market and pay the price.....I have said this before here and I stand by it when they make bonehead decisions. And I already know what some will say..."its what the market supports or if ppl are willing to pay it" etc...….. Not this time...mark my words...
  19. Wasn't there a time when the gave complimentary upgrades based on your C&A status.....seems even when I started back in 2013, this was the case and you could always ask for a cabin change at Guest services....
  20. You would NEVER see a ship registered to Canada....the taxes would bankrupt the company....lol
  21. Sorry to hear what you went through but glad you have such a positive outlook and attitude like you do. I really believe that the "cure" is actually worse than the condition, at least here in Canada......its amazing the fear and control the government has over us. No one is living normally or enjoying life, we are all scared and told to stay home for weeks, now into months...with no end it sight and no proof that anything we are being forced to do is having the effect the government told us it would.
  22. They should seek financial help from those countries too.....they avoid registering in the US..although 90%(?) of their cruises originate in the US....now they will want the US to bail them out..
  23. Have done it a couple times with no issues. But we aren't super picky about location. To save almost $400 on your booking or 25% I wouldn't think twice about taking the GTY I guess if $ is no object than it doesn't matter but....
  24. I cant see them going that far out with a blanket policy. if things got better quicker than expcted I would think it would be harder to start up quickly. I can seem some cruises being affected longer than others though..with no ports in Canda open till at least July1st..and some areas having bigger issues, it doesn't surprise me that some ports may not open as quickly as others. That being said, I just upgraded to a balcony room on Odyssey for less than what I paid for a Oceanview…...I REALLY need that cruise not to be cancelled!!
