  1. So, I was googling and couldn't find any evidence of similar incidents on cruise ships. I did find several similar incidents in zoos. Parents picked up a child to give them a better view of the animals and the child slipped, squirmed or otherwise fell into the enclosure and was injured or killed. In most cases, the zoo was not held liable since the adult in the situation was deemed equally or largely at fault by circumventing the safety precautions. There are two circumstances I found that increased the zoos liability. 1) the incident occurred under supervision of zoo employees. 2) The zoo was aware of parents "dangling" their children, had discussed it and failed to act on that information. While not a perfect example, the zoo incidents are close enough to extrapolate probable arguments. The cruise line will argue that having windows that open are standard on most cruise ships and the grandfather acted in a negligent manner by lifting the child up to rest on the railing. The grandfather's actions were a more significant factor to the accident than the design of the window. The parent's case will likely hinge on whether there was significant discussion by RCCL of the possibility of this type of incident happening and whether the cruise line had previous reports of similar behavior. If this could be proven through discovery, then the parents stand a chance of prevailing in their action. Regardless, I think the overall outcome will be for signs on railing and windows indicating the danger will be added, but the functionality of the windows will remain. This is how the zoos have handled this in the past.
  2. The ones we used were open air. There are probably others with more privacy.
  3. We had a Chill Island Cabana last week. First they seem to have rebuilt and added six new ones - total of 20. The decks attached to cabana are gone on all of them I think, but I didn't do a close inspection of each - just those we passed. I had some trouble accessing the cabanas. One thing I noted the older pics had steps and were easier to get in and out of. These were a bit of a challenge even for the young attendant. Had to pull one's self up. Others looked to lower and not such a problem. Some had USB charging and ceiling fans, but not all. We had a couch, two chairs and 4 loungers plus two floating mats. There was a cooler with water and a "toy"chest as well. We did have a cabana attendant(I spotted three covering all 20 cabanas). She brought drinks and food and generally checked in on us. (Jorese was her name) No speaker, no locking lid, but we had a camera and two tablets - no one bothered them.
  4. We were there last week. They are pretty weak and not separate stalls. We rinsed off the top layer of sand and salt. Back at the room we did a couples shower!
  5. I don't know how SC markets the Real ID. In NC, they market it as a replacement for the passport. Long story, short - it isn't.
