  1. It appears to me that the Grandfather in question is at least the 2nd husband of the maternal grandmother.  According to the obituary there are 2 sets of maternal grandparents, with the 2nd set having the last name of the mother, nee making that set the mothers father.  Personally I can only see that as making accepting blame on the part of the subject grandfather even harder to comprehend.

I don't know all the facts and probably never will, but I cannot see where RCCL has any blame based on when we do know.

Also glad that this forum has allowed and open and civil discussion, I think we all know who shut it down and deleted all posts.

NAV is the only ship where we have ever been denied lunch at Chops on embarkation day.  We’ve always been able to get in but on NAV last month not even our Suites Concierge could get us in to Chops for lunch on embarkation. We went to Jamie’s instead. It was fine.

    @WAAAYTOOO

did you have a dinning package in addition to being a suite guest ?

    or

were you just a suite guest and could get into chops for lunch like suite guests can on a sea day?

  3. also, just order a continental breakfast with your friends and then keep your tray and the plate cover(s).

also order from the omelet fresh egg station and then load your other items, your eggs should still be warm unless your room is far far away

anyway lot of good suggestions here that you can make work

  4. really it does happen, I doubt it was food specific to Coco Cay.  There is so much chance of catching something when in close proximity to that many people for even a few days.  Yes washing your hands often and practicing safe hygiene can help, but cannot eliminate the bugs.  20 plus cruises and only one time have I been sick, it was an awful 3 days, but then it not like I don't occasionally get sick at home either.

  5. We cruise out of San Juan every year, albeit in winter months and have been of Freedom a number of times as well as her sister Liberty (this is actually our favorite class of ship).

what others have already pointed out about food and possible rude passengers I agree with.  Food is subjective but certainly eatable and like stated if the meal you choose isn't to your liking ask for something else and as we cruise we find our favorites that we have each time it is offered, can you get some not prepared right, even when you know you like the dish, sure it can happen, let them know they will try to make you happy.

Rude people, on occasion, but they are everywhere, no mater where you go.  More than else where, I sure don't think so, anyway I won't let them ruin my day.

Positives for San Juan cruises, is the Southern Caribbean has the absolute best islands, ones you generally can't get to on a 7 day cruise leaving from a US port

I'd say give San Juan a try odds are pretty good you'll like it

  6. had the same sort of experience with Uber from hotel on SE 24th to terminal 29 Port Everglades, should have been pretty much a straight shot down the road ST Hwy 84 and then a right.  The Uber driver insisted he had to follow his GPS and had us for all practical purposes back at the airport before finally getting there.  2 to 3 times as long of a trip, but price did not change like in a taxi when the take you the long way around, felt sorry for the drive, spending time when he could have been earning

  7. With Thenford and one of his tours that includes a beach stop it will be your last stop and he will return you to the ship,  generally those that want to shop will when you get to the beach stop re-board the van and the driver will take you back to port shop while Mr Gray or his tour guide if not him giving the tour will remain at the beach.  Van returns after dropping off shoppers to beach.   If your lucky enough to have Thenford himself he is a FANTASTIC guide, upper 10% anywhere.

In reference to the St Kitts Sugar Train, if arriving by cruise ship your only option is to do the tour through the cruise ship excursion (it is in their contract).   We enjoyed it, though everyone would like a tip, many different people, bus to train driver, train car guide, singers, drink server, return is either by bus or catamaran (Catamaran is a little more expensive but much better way to return to ship).  Was interesting way to see a lot of island you won't see any other way, but in our opinion a one time experience, not one to go back to again.

  8. we were on the first overnight in Havana, arrived around mid day , I think after lunch. we booked an RCI tour for the first day and an "I love Havana Photo Tour" for the second full day privately.  the RCI tour was just ok, the second day private tour was much much better.  We also went out in the evening of the first day and walked around on our own,  I never really felt unsafe. A little strange at times, wish i spoke better Spanish.  never really unsafe stopped at a few bars and had a drink and listens to music.  I was surprised at how safe i felt, even in NY, Miami, LA , i probaly felt the same or worse at night.  Was a fantastic experiance, love the guide we had with Yosef and his Photo tour company.
