  1. The repositioning sailings out of Boston have caught our eye. We'd love to take one, but any vacation over 7 days is tough for my wife. Her career has been plagued many times with "restructuring" over the past 20 years, and every time this has happened, she has had to start over with the "new" company. When she starts over, her paid time off is that of a new employee. She currently has three weeks of pto to my seven and doesn't want to use that much of it at one time.
  2. This whole thread has made us rethink our future departure ports. For some reason we never even considered NJ or MD as ports. They are 5-6 and 7-8 hours from us respectively if we drive. Flying from Maine is an all day affair...non-stop flights are like unicorns unless you leave out of Boston, and that adds to the logistical difficulties for us. We’re not worried about flying (COVID or any other reasons), but Portland to MIA or FLL is exhausting. It seems like all flights in our budget tend to go through the hell that is La Guardia. We’ve left Portland at 530 am and never got to our hotel room in Florida until 1 am. We’ve decided that when we book our 2022 cruises, we’re going to try some that leave from Cape Liberty.
  3. I wish political jabs wouldn't be included in posts here. There are many other websites that thrive on that kind of discourse.
  4. Out of curiosity, I just looked at Cape Liberty....5-6 hours. That would be alright I guess, although I try to live by the words of a long time friend who drives truck...."If you don't have to drive in the NYC Metro area, DON'T".
  5. We're a 24 hour non-stop drive to Miami depending on traffic/construction. We've done it 25 years ago by swapping off driving, but I don't think either one of us could sit in a car for that long now.
  6. We have just over 8 years till we hit this milestone.....our plan is the same as yours.
  7. I'm one of those "Mr Preparedness" kind of people. I've been through a couple actual holy crap moments in the military, and the response from some of the supposedly trained people sticks with me to this day. When my son joined me on Adventure back in Jan/Feb, I showed him where our muster station was before the drill and made him take me to it from the Windjammer. He thought it was another case of "Dad being overly cautious" until we went to the actual muster and he saw how many people were in the wrong place and how many people were not even paying attention. He made a comment to me about "how xxxxed up things would be in an actual emergency" (his words). As a father, it's nice when one of your older teens "gets" something.
  8. My thoughts: When you finish the first cruise of a b2b, you will be in the bubble. All Royal Caribbean has to do is maintain that bubble during the between cruise period. I'm guessing you won't be able to disembark and reboard, and clearing immigration will be tightly controlled.
  9. I am so tired of people acting like they are Mel Gibson in The Patriot over wearing a mask while grocery shopping.
  10. My (then) 19 y/o son did the second leg of my back to back with me back in Jan-Feb. I encouraged him to go Quest even though I was too tired to go. He went and ended up being a team captain. The next day we kept running into people he knew from the night before....he was very chatty with everyone, high fives and fist bumps all around....and this is a kid who struggled with anxiety through his teen years. Ever since that week on Adventure, he has been able to deal with his anxiety in a much more positive way.
  11. We have a couple back to backs booked in 2021......which is pretty cool considering we never cruised until Jan 2019.
  12. Apparently I’m heading up towards the Canadian Maritimes.
  13. We would definitely go on a river cruise. We've talked a lot about doing a European river cruise sometime in the not too distant future. I've never thought about a Mississippi cruise, but now that I do, it sounds fun.
  14. This is a variation of the line we are now saying at work to the customers who loudly complain about having to wear a mask and mock employees for wearing them..... "Sir, I come in close proximity to hundreds of people every day. I certainly hope you feel better knowing that my wearing a mask helps protect YOU. I know I would hate to be responsible for transmitting the virus to someone whose immune system is weak" <insert big, innocent smile here>
  15. My wife and I talked about this, but I work in a supermarket and haven't seen this. If anything, most people are basically behaving like they did pre-pandemic.....no social distancing, taking masks off to talk or make a phone call, touching everything on the shelf/case/bin to find the one they want, etc.....and no one else is getting upset. Sure, there is the occasional person who comes to an employee to report someone going the wrong way in an aisle or not wearing their mask correctly, but that person is extremely rare.
  16. I’m going to remember this.....I tend to be a little...I guess I‘ll say “rougher around the edges” when I interact with people who need to hear things like this
  17. Jeeze...Royal is all over the place with what age is considered an "adult". Back in January, when I did a back to back on Adventure, my 19 y/o son flew down to do the second leg with me. Because he was under 21, they wouldn't let him board unless I was with him...I had to disembark then go back through with him.
  18. We’ve sold and bought three times, and I remember how stressful each time was. I can’t imagine doing it in the Florida heat much less during a global pandemic Good luck to the two of you. I hope things falls into place quickly and you have smooth sailing.
  19. I work in for a major northern New England supermarket chain as a meat cutter/butcher. My coworkers and I have been saying this for almost two months now. Social distancing is pretty much non-existent now among the customers we see shopping. People seem to have no concept of any space much less personal space. It's like it was pre-Covid
  20. Officially booked on Navigator for November 12, 2021. It’ll be my wife’s first B2B
  21. Regarding the phone app specifically, there have been times where I've had to delete and re-download the app while currently on the cruise I was trying to use it for.
  22. Awesome!! First sailing is my wife and I with our oldest (whose birthday is sail away day) and his new wife (they are getting married shortly before). We are taking them for their honeymoon on the first leg. I'm doing the second leg by myself to do some diving since I have six weeks vacation to my wife's three.
