Back on the bus...

The ride through town and subsequent free back massage allowed me to see what I was missing earlier this morning.

Sounds like they found a place for a form of cold layup for these two ships.  This was eluded to recently during an investor's call.  Park the ships with minimum crewing to support the basic ongoing upkeep while minimizing demand on ship systems.  
The ship and crew effectively become part of the local society like they are in a building.  This greatly reduces operating costs over the months to come which further helps the company make it even longer.
Great news.  Let's hope for no tropical systems for them to deal with.

Coming off Explorer one time I was at the airport by 7:45am doing self-assist and hopping in a cab. 
I not suggesting anyone attempt an early departure because so many things can impact an arrival such as a medical emergency, fog or other unexpected event during the cruise.  
Keep in mind that early flight times may mean you are ineligible for Seattle's free luggage valet offered by the port, assuming this remains going forward.

Sneak peak through the trees.  Even with the clouds Alaska is beautiful.

Who needs coffee in the morning?

The bus ride up the mountain starts with seeing some local deer right outside the port.


It didn't take long for the pavement to end and the free back massage began (a.k.a. dirt road in an old bus).

With my head above the clouds our driver stops to take in the majestic vista.

What a great view!  At least I imagine it could be on a nicer day...

On this chilly and misty morning I decided the forgo the coffee and wake up with adrenaline.  My morning shot awaits at the other end of these zip line cables.

I guess this is what you get when you dare the Royal Transporter crew after visiting the pub.  Next time I'll stick to Sorrento's Pizza at midnight.

Time for bed.  I'm super excited to see what the Royal Transporter crew have in store for me.  Until then, there's a starry night to be had from the helipad including the constellation found on the Alaska state flag.

ISP is one the best whale watching destinations on popular cruise itineraries but unlike the excursions offered here, sometimes on sail away the whales are far off in the distance.   The telltale water spouts give them away.

Then again, sometimes they pop up a lot closer to the shi


Sometimes you just need to put the camera down and enjoy moments like these in the moment.

The ISP sail away is always best taken in... outdoors.



That's a pretty well know glacier in the distance but that's a story for another day.



These pictures do such a poor job.  You really need to experience this in person.   

 

I met with the Royal Transporter crew and they think they have exactly what I'm looking for.  More on that tomorrow.  They say they have a surprise upgrade in store for me.  
Until then its time to start thinking about leaving ISP (Icy Strait Point) but no worries, I think I may drop in again here before this thread is over.  Until then, it is after all... 5 o'clock.

Not one to be the last on board, it's time.  Pier running isn't in my blood or my aging body.
