Royal Caribbean's November offer begins today, with 60% off the second guest, kids sail free and instant savings available.

The November offer must be booked between November 6, 2020 – December 1, 2020 and applies to select sailings departing on or after December 1, 2020.

It includes:

• 60% savings off the price of cruise fare of the second guest booked in the same stateroom as first, full-fare paying guest.

In the hours since Royal Caribbean announced it would offer double loyalty program points on 2021 cruises, the cruise line changed the terms and conditions so it is combinable with just about any 2021 sailing.

Initially the Loyalty 2X Points benefit was not available for certain fares, such as group rates, or even existing bookings

Royal Caribbean changed its mind and updated its terms and conditions so that Loyalty 2X Points applies to new, individual, and named group bookings confirmed at prevailing rates, and existing bookings made for bookings made before December 31, 2020 on sailings between January 1 – December 31, 2021.

Throughout the day, the terms and conditions of the Loyalty 2X Points benefit were changing, with existing bookings being added and then named group bookings. These changes lead to a lot of confusion among cruisers.

A named group booking is when a travel agency submits the names in their group block to Royal Caribbean.

As of Tuesday, the Loyalty 2X Points enhancement applies to an existing or new booking that is made prior to December 31, 2020, for sailings departing January 1 – December 31, 2021.

If you have an existing reservation made before December 31, 2020, there is no need to re-book in order to get this benefit. You just need to make certain that a valid Crown & Anchor Society membership number is included in the reservation

Crown and Anchor points will be applied once the guest has paid their booking in full and completed their sailing. If in a group, make sure the travel agent submits full booking details for you so that your cabin is now named.

On social media, Royal Caribbean explained this benefit is combinable with other offers, and is not a promotion, but rather a program enhancement for qualified bookings.

Double Points

The other big change with the Loyalty 2X Points benefit is Royal Caribbean changed how many points guests will receive.

Initially, it looked like guests would receive one additional point per night (thus "doubling" a standard room), but Royal Caribbean's social media team now says guests across all stateroom categories will receive double points.

• Standard room: 2 points per night
• Suite room: 4 points per night
• Solo guest in standard room: 4 points per night
• Solo guest in suite: 6 points per night

Royal Caribbean is offering double Crown and Anchor Society points for new cruise bookings, as part of its new program enhancement.

Loyalty 2X Points applies to new, individual, and named group bookings confirmed at prevailing rates, and existing bookings made before December 31, 2020 on all Eligible Sailings.

Royal Caribbean updated the offer to extend it as well to existing bookings. The sailing must depart between January 1 – December 31, 2021.

Loyalty 2X Points is available to Gold, Platinum, Emerald, Diamond, Diamond Plus, and Pinnacle Crown & Anchor Society members.

Crown and Anchor points will be applied once the guest pays the booking in full and completes the sailing. When reserving, a valid Crown & Anchor Society membership number must be included in the reservation.

The bonus provides an additional point per night of new cruises booked, which means staying in a standard stateroom would get you two points per night, instead of one.

The Double Points offer also provides bonus points for guests who would otherwise qualify for bonus points:

• Standard room: 2 points per night
• Suite room: 4 points per night
• Solo guest in standard room: 4 points per night
• Solo guest in suite: 6 points per night

The Double Points offer is global but excludes China.

Why this is a good deal

Royal Caribbean offering double Crown and Anchor Society points is significant because this is an offer that has not been available in many years. 

Even when Royal Caribbean did offer extra points, it was usually restricted to much less of a timeframe. And even then, that was quite a long time ago.

Getting extra points makes it much easier to move up the cruise line's customer loyalty program, which allows for better perks and amenities for repeat cruisers.

Usually you get one point per night of the cruise, but with this offer you can get an extra point per night.

Perks of the Crown and Anchor Society include rewards such as onboard discounts, complimentary alcoholic beverages, special rates and more.

Royal Caribbean just launched a new offer during the month of October where you can book Kids Sail Free during summer 2021, a time of year that has never been included in the past.

Will it save you money?

Like all Royal Caribbean offers, it will be more lucrative to some people than others.

No Royal Caribbean promotion is ever an across the board deep discount, so the key is finding the right discount for your family.

The premise of Kids Sail Free is simple: if you have children who are 12 years old or younger staying in the same room as two other people, the kids fare is free (plus taxes and fees).

To illustrate this point, I picked a few sailings to show potential savings. Each quote is for a family of 4 (two adults, two kids) per room.

In short, the Kids Sail Free deal does in fact offer savings for third and fourth passengers. If you price out the same sailings and cabin configuration with the same category room for just two passengers, the price is very similar to the price with 4 passengers.

As you can see, the savings are significantly greater when you booking a more expensive room, especially suites.

When comparing prices, be sure to compare the same category rooms. Switching between 2 or 4 passengers often has different category rooms that come with different pricing.

In summer 2021, Royal Caribbean will offer a Kids Sail Free deal that includes nearly all of the summer 2021 cruises.

The Kids Sail Free deal has always been a popular option, where kids 12 years old and under in the same room as two adults are free to cruise, but there has always been a lot of blackout dates that usually coincide with when school is out of session.

The only blackout date is the week of July 4th (June 28 - July 6, 2021).

The new Fall For Adventure sale during the month of October will offer 60% off the second guest, up to $100 off instantly and kids sail free all summer.

The new deal begins October 1, 2020, so you will not see new pricing until that date.

Is this a good deal?

Kids Sail Free deals definitely save money, but the issue has always been finding dates that were not blacked out. With Kids Sail Free being offered over the summer, there is ample opportunity for families to take advantage of the offer.

Your best value with Kids Sail Free will be in the higher category rooms, especially balcony and suite rooms, where the savings on the third and fourth passenger are more substantial.

Of course, Kids Sail Free deal requires the kids to be in the same stateroom as the parents, so you cannot split across multiple rooms and use the offer.

Using a good travel agent, you can easily compare and contrast prices between sailings.

Royal Caribbean has rolled out a brand new sale that provides bigger savings the sooner you book a 2021 cruise.
