LLW2683
I have heard the first two days out of Seattle can be rough for people who have motion sickness. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it worse for an Alaskan cruise compared to Caribbean cruises?
HeWhoWaits
Seas are more likely to be heavy on an Alaska itinerary than in the Caribbean simply because some of the distances to be covered require not avoiding some of the areas that are so wide open. However, this isn't usually the case the first couple days leaving Seattle in our experience as the long traverse of open seas tends to be later in the itinerary. If you're susceptible to motion sickness, be prepared.
Matt
I think seasickness is more an issue in Alaska on an open jaw sailing that goes through the Gulf of Alaska than the Seattle cruises that just hit the inside passage.
smokeybandit
It is worse, but still not bad on any given day (though that area is more prone to storms than the Caribbean). If you're prone to seasickness, just take your regular preferred precautions.
Pattycruise
Did Vancouver to Seward and then the next sailing back-both inside passage. The Vancouver sailing….we were rocking!! I was quite surprised! Anyhow I travel with meclizine and guest services has it free. I also travel with ginger-it helps. Additionally I’ll start drinking a dark and stormy (base is ginger beer)and that helps too. Baked Alaska
Yes! We sailed a closed jaw from Seattle almost a week ago on Ovation OS. Two sea days through the Gulf of Alaska. First one was rougher, but still experienced it on the second. While on a Southbound sailing on Radiance in 2019, it was equally rough although just one day. Just be prepared, and if you need meds use them. Don't let it ruin your otherwise incredible trip. For context, I've sailed a lot and flown with my dad for decades as a private pilot. CynBeth
Our first cruise with RC was Alaska on Radiance from Vancouver. We had one bad night with rocking where we heard others got sick but luckily we were ok. For every cruise since then we always wear the prescription ear patch.
