Whiskey of the Seas

Recommended Posts

After falling down Matt’s video blog rabbit hole, I recently joined the blog. He does a wonderful job by the way. 62 days until Wonder of the Seas. After a decade of attempts and several previous postponements, my wife and I finally booked a cruise. Life happens. We purchased the drink package, and I was scouring the internet and all the blogs to get a better idea of the “ultra-premium” liquor options at bars like Mason Jar, in case I see something I would want to pay over’s on for the package.  I have only been able to find the limited and standard offerings and menus but not the ultra-premium offerings, possibly because those can vary more frequently. I’m specifically looking for current ultra-premium whisky prices at Mason Jar, Schooner, Cask and Clipper, or any others that people would recommend. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the most current bar and premium/ultra-premium liquor options, both under and over the $15 limit for the drink package for Wonder of the Seas? I’ll take all the help I can get at this point. Thanks!

Welcome to the boards!

If you’re really into ultra premium, I suspect you will a bit disappointed with the whiskey selection. There are certainly some premium choices, but I don’t recall any stellar options with any of the liquors. Not to say you won’t have fun checking things out, though!

On Harmony in January, the English pub, Boot & Bonnett, had a couple of selections from Whistlepig that were not available anywhere else on the ship.

6 year and 10 year rye. No extra cost with the drink package!

I would expect that the English pub on Wonder (Pig & Whistle?) may also have those (and maybe some others worth trying?)

I’ll agree with this assessment. I have always been rather disappointed when it comes to Royal’s whiskey and scotch selections. Don’t get me wrong they’re not bad, but I can get as good a selection at most restaurant bars. If you like 12 year scotch, you’ll be fine. Outside of that, it’s all blends which I’m personally not a fan of.

I don’t see it as Royal being cheap. They are just buying the ones that they can get good volume on so there’s parity between ships and bars.

Surprisingly, the pool bar on Allure had just as much of a selection as the inside bars did.

I did manage to score some free Johnny Blue from The Collection but it cost me a couple of LV and Gucci hand bags for the girls. 😎😢😂

Left to right here, thanks for the photo from @B. Lomax I'm sure I will miss or mess up something but we can group source.

Pretty remarkable in that none of these are that remarkable?  Just that none of these in the photo would be classified as particularly 'hard to find' or high end (most of the front row are $25-40 dollar bottles, some of the back row around $75 but it is a nice variety to suit most pallets.   I have never been to Mason Jar, there might be a more secure place they keep other limited items out of view.

Front row Left to Right

Rail Rye, Rail Bourbon, Baker's 7 year bourbon, Knob Creek 9 year, Wild Turkey 101, Basil Haydn, EH Taylor Colonel Small batch, 1792 single barrel, Gentleman Jack, Woodford Reserve, Uncle Nearest 1884 93 proof, Jack Daniels single barrel, Jameson, Zacapa rum, some cheapos then Kracken then mystery round bottle could almost be Blanton's original but based on how 'normie' the rest of this is I highly doubt it.  John Bowman bourbon ? or even a cognac etc

Second row L to R

Patron silver, (tall bottle behind pitcher?), Grey Goose, Rittenhouse Rye, Jack Daniels Rye, Whistlepig Bourbon 10 year, Woodford Double oaked or master's collection?, a cheap 4 year scotch, Dewar's, Glenlivet, Mcallan, Johnny Walker Double black, Johnny Walker Black, Chivas Regal, Chivas 18, Monkey Shoulder, Canadian Club, Crown Royal, then into the cordials etc Franjelico, Campari, Midori

Most 'expensive' bottle is that EH Taylor colonel around $120 retail in the states or whatever special edition of woodford that is in the second row.

@dr martini, While the selection was never going to break any records, I appreciated the EHT and ER in the DB Package. Being a long-time fan of BTMB#1 in most of its forms, including them in the deluxe beverage package was welcome news for me for seven days. While both are “available”, albeit at secondary prices as you’ve noted, I was welcome to have them on board and ensured I had my fill of the EHT. Expectations were low going in, but I really couldn’t complain about having some close friends of mine on board. If anyone is looking to find some BTAC on an RC ship, I’d be surprised. Let me know if you have the inside scoop on that and I’ll meet you there!

Oh for sure appreciate the effort, I would say that meets expectations.  They’re not gonna have a high end place without an also high cover charge and I think the appearance and then disappearance of vintages kind of shows that.  I appreciate the fact that there is some variety across various bars, especially on newer/amped ships and not just the same cocktail menu everywhere with the same generic syrups (although there is a lot of that, and I get it out of necessity/supply).
