How to choose between a multitude of ships?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Just happened to stumble onto this site and wow, what a great resource. I can't wait to read about all of the experiences that people have posted already.

The time frame we're thinking about is next March due to her class and work schedule. Somewhere in the caribbean/bahamas.

In that time frame there are 5 available ships.. Harmony, Allure, Oasis, Liberty, and Freedom....

I've been on Freedom previously and enjoyed it quite thoroughly. Mostly the piano bar as i believe we spent most night theres

We're going with friends(all of us are in our late 20's) and we're trying to decide the best ship for us....while flow-rider and zip-line, etc are all nice,,,we enjoy the restaurants, the pools, the dancing, casinos, and those types of activities.

I would just like to hear from those that have been on these ships more than I have and hear your alls thoughts.

Thanks,

Scott

I world say any of these would be great...depends on your price point and where you want to go out of.   The oasis class will be more expensive,  but have more to offer.   The freedom class are still great (im going on the march 25th sailing of freedom)  but they won't have as many restaurant choices.   Liberty is out of Galveston,  freedom is out of fort lauderdale and i can tell you airfare ain't pretty for next march.   But they are all great ships ans you will have a wonderful time.   Let us know what you pick! If restaurants/pools/night life are your drivers you are probably going to want the Oasis class over the slightly older and smaller Freedom Class (Freedom) and Voyager Class (Liberty). IIRC Oasis class have comedy clubs, bigger shows, more restaurants than their older siblings.

Within the Oasis class, the itineraries are generally pretty similar so you are going to see the same ports, Harmony has "more" onboard than her older siblings Oasis and Allure ... off the top of my head, water slides, escape room and I think more/different restaurant options. Offset is she also costs more than her sisters.

Between Oasis and Allure I think the only real difference is the broadway show ... apart from that I think they are basically identical sisters.

Hey Scott, you can't go wrong with Liberty ... BIG, BOLD, and BEAUTIFUL!!  Great crew,  didn't have to use the life boats, but brother, I wore out the soft serve ice cream  machines and the coffee urns.  : )

You guys are in for a treat!  pops

If the ship and what's available on it is more important to you than the ports you'll be seeing, I agree with the others recommending Harmony. I haven't been on her, but the amenities and options are definitely a notch above compared to Freedom or Independence. You'll have four sea days and 3 port days on any Oasis-class sailing (they just don't do longer trips or more ports), so the ship is definitely the star.

If you really want to see more of the Caribbean, or if you're on a smaller budget, you may want to skip some of the glitz and go for a sailing on Freedom. She goes to ports not visited by Harmony or the other Oasis class ships that are too big to dock in those ports, so you get some potentially better options. I'm actually booked on an 8-night Eastern Caribbean cruise on Freedom next March (the 31st through April 8th) that does four ports, and we were able to get ourselves balcony rooms that would have cost a lot more on Harmony, along with giving us more budget for shore excursions and such.

Can't thank you all enough for the responses and help. Decided to go with Oasis of the Seas in March 2018. We'll be stopping in philipsburg, st. Maarten,,San juan Puerto Rico, and labadee, Haiti. It looks like a great ship.

Now to look at excursions and dining options which I'm sure will bring more questions to the table haha. Thanks again for all the help everyone.
