Donna61
Was wondering about leaving snacks or small gifts for our cabin steward. Is this acceptable and if so what kind of things do you suggest?
Ryan79
They will appreciate cash more than anything, which is more useful to them than any kind trinket. They only have small living quarters, so I’m sure they would appreciate it not being cluttered up.
smokeybandit
If you insist on a gift, ask what they like before a port stop. I would think most would say "I'm good, thanks" but some may speak up
Pooch
In addition to a cash tip, I left wrapped chocolates for our steward every day.

That's why they give you an envelope at the end of your cruise. They want cash, not a bag of peanuts, potato chips or chocolate etc.. Nothing says 'thank you' more than some money in the envelope they give you. TessFromFlorida

I think something is addition to that can be nice... money for sure. But I'm sure something they need is also nice so they don't need to spend the money on it... I hear little things like toiletries or even small snacks you know they like. I heard some of them really enjoy silly stuff like a sheet of googly eyes to use for the towel animals...which will help get them more tips! TexanTwoStep
I've heard of people asking what their stewards *need* from the port, because many of them do not have the ability to disembark at every port. Things like laundry detergent/calling cards/other essential living items that would make their lives a little easier.

Kristinem
Cash and mentioning their name in a positive review of their service. Most don't think of the reviews, but I have heard that these mean a lot to the company for promotions etc.
Va4fam
We always leave cash at the end of the trip. But on port days we always ask if they would like anything. Most politely decline. Sometimes they will ask and the most frequent request is chocolate/chocolate bars. Always get a great response when we give them the chocolate! Katiemay0101
Just got off Mariner and I asked a few crew what they would like if someone were to bring small gifts. Cash was best, goes without saying, but just about every single person I asked said something from my hometown, toiletries (hypoallergenic), or weirdly, refrigerator magnets from the different places we stopped. Not sure why on the last one, I can only guess it was because they knew I would bring them anything they asked for and they didn't want to say anything to expensive. Hope this helps, Kate
smokeybandit
The magnets actually kind of make sense. The crew stops at these islands dozens of times per contract but they may not get much of a chance to actually step foot on land there. Especially the room stewards.
