shannon622
We will be going to Grand Cayman and Cozumel on IOS in April. We will have our 10 year old son with us. Any suggestions on what to do. It seems like the Royal excursions are a little pricey. Is it safe to go with a third party? Any recommendations? Also, are there any hotels you can go to for the day and use their amenities??? Thank you!

Your choice of excursions depends on what activities you like and what physical activities you are able to do. In Cozumel, sightseers and history buffs will want to visit the ruins. Beach lovers will book beach/resort reservations. Adventure seekers will do the ziplines and other thrilling experiences. You get the picture. What activities does your family enjoy doing ... and doing together? EDIT: I forgot ... shoppers will just go shopping.

Yes and there are lots of beach clubs you can book for the day. Do a search here for Cozumel and you will find what you are looking for. Not sure if you would be interested but Cozumel is one of the least expensive places to interact with dolphins.
melmar02
Both are easy and safe to get around by taxi. We have done Paradise Beach a couple of times in Cozumel, and my kids who are 11 and 7 love it. It's a $20 cab ride with tip each way. $3 to get in and the ask you purchase $10 in food/drink. They have both a heated pool and a beach. They have inflatables, snorkeling, and kayaks that are extra ($15-18... I can't remeber for sure). PB also has an all inclusive option if you think you will eat and drink a lot while there. Next time with the kids, we are planning to take a cab to Chakanaab which also has a pool and beach, but there are a few other things too - the dolphin swim is here as well. We're going to Grand Cayman in November, and right now we're planning on going to the turtle farm (taking a cab, not a Royal excursion). There are a couple of ticket options here. WE went to Mr. Sanchos in Cozumel, which was an all inclusive resort that has an Aquapark your son may enjoy.

In the past out of Cozumel we have tried horseback riding as well as Mayan or caving excursions that require a fast ferry ride to the mainland. At 10, my son enjoyed Tulum, but the boat ride can make you a little queasy. It's also possible to just take a taxi to downtown Cozumel and sight-see/shop before or after visiting a beach. At Grand Cayman, we did a turtle rescue excursion that allowed snorkeling in a man-made "live" lake. There were lots of fish to see. An adventurous excursion can run about $100 per person when you order early online, and we avoid paying more than that. Sometimes you can get something for less. Otherwise, $45-$60 is normal for a lot of beach and snorkeling experiences. You can also just pay for ground transportation and rent beach equipment...Other threads explain beaches in Cozumel. Whatever you choose, have a great cruise.

We booked directly with Royal and it was on sale for around $63 per person. We got in the water and got to touch with the dolphins. It included lunch and a little pool time. There were also shows there you could go see. The name was: All Inclusive Dolphin Encounter At Chankanaab National Park, you’ll find everything from snorkeling and scuba to swimming with dolphins. I think it was in Costa Maya where the dolphin encounter was just by the port. The package included several tricks the dolphins perform with the participant. Esmom
My girls ( 9 &11) loved the turtle rescue in GC. They swam with turtles and spent time in a non-turtle pool. It wasn't a ship sponsored excursion but easy to do on your own.
jaredhamburg
In Grand Cayman, take a taxi to any of the areas along 7 Mile Beach. We liked Royal Palms. We cheap to get into (a few bucks a head in USD). Thanks! Jared
