Pre board dinner reservations

Recommended Posts

When you purchased the 3 night package, it had a button where you chose night one or night 2.  The restaurant, and the other 2 nights, RCCL will automatically assign.

You can change how RCCL assigns it when you first board the ship.  You just go to one of the specialty dining restaurants and the hostess can assign the dates and restaurants that you choose.

There might be a kiosk or another place you can do this on the ship, but it's my first time cruising RCCL, so I'm not familiar with where those might be on the Harmony.  :15_yum:

There will be a kiosk on the Prominade when you board the ship, they can also make the reservations in the Main Dinning room, they usually have a special table set up.

Thanks!   I will be on the lookout, I'm sailing Ovation this Sept.  :1_grinning:     Super excited, this is my first "normal" cruise, and my first one on RCCL!

FYI, we got on at 11 so there was no waiting in Chops, but on the promenade the kiosks were busy with people and it can get a little packed.  On Adventure to alleviate the clogging in the WJ, they set up stations of burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, plus than you have Sorrentos and the café there, plus Starbucks, and Ben and Jerry's add on people lining up to buy the beverage package, or going to shore excursions, while walking around with their carry on luggage, it can make someone feel like they are at the mall on Christmas Eve searching for that last minute gift.

@Ladyxsuebee  I have not been on Ovation, so I don't know the lay out.  One of the best nights that RCL does is the 70s night.  The location of this party varies by ship, but the time is typically the same 10:00-10:15  On Adventure it was on the Promenade, and the bridge that the performers come out on overlooks that area.  Izumi is right there and some of the tables are set out like an outdoor café.  We did an 8:30 dinner.  by the time we were done it was 9:30-9:45 so we got front row right next to the bridge area.

If you think that dinner time is late, and you have a balcony you can do what we did.  I ran up to WJ when they opened for dinner.  I made 2 plates one of antipasta...prosciutto, bresciole, salami, caprese salad, cheeses, olives, breads, etc.  The other plate was desserts.  While I do that my hubby takes my sea pass card and grabs a glass of wine for each of us.  We sit on the balcony, watch the sun set and enjoy the antipasta to hold us over until dinner.  We had an amazing cabin attendant.  Usually they start turning down rooms @ 6.  By day 3 she knew this is what we did every night, early dinners for us was 6:30 at a specialty, mdr was always 8pm.  I would turn the corner and when she saw me she would have her master key in hand to open the door for me.

We did the Anthem about 18 mos ago, and the problem we felt that they needed to re-think it.  The crowds were so big there was very little room.  If memory serves me correct they did Battle of the Sexes right before the 70s party and from the 70s party it immediately went into the Silent party, so there really wasn't any clearing out from one thing to another.  I wished that Anthem could use the 270 for maybe the Silent Party, but I get it, they have their acrobatic show, so that is not an option.

I said it varies because I have been on 4 different ships in less than 3 yrs., all different class sizes.  Not one was in the same type of venue.  It has been in the Centrum, Promenade, Pool Deck and Music Hall.

Back on topic.  The main reason you want to do this as soon as you get on board is what others have stated to get that prime dining time.  However, I will also say that our TA threw in 4 specialty dinners on top of the Chef's table we purchased.  We originally booked 1 Chops, 1 Izumi and 2 Giovannis.  Did this all onboard within minutes of arriving (@11).  We ate at Chops 1st (night 3), Giovanni's night 4.  Both had excellent service and food, however, being an Italian family from NJ/NY area Giovannis fell a little short.  That night after dinner we went to Chops and asked if they could cancel night 8 at Giovannis and give us a 6:30 at Chops with our original table instead, yep no problem.

Just telling you this that don't fret too much about running to the kiosk or specialty restaurant to get the time you want.

I would also suggest look at old cruise compasses and think about those days you will do specialty.  IE We knew that we were going to be in Coco Cay until 6.  We purchased a cabana.  I was adamant that at the price of my cabana they would be escorting me out of the cabana at 5:15.  We did a 7 pm dinner that night.  Another night when we were in Bermuda we were sailing out at 5, all aboard at 4:30, in my world that means 4.  We did a 6 pm seating.

This is also what is so great about their app.  If you are like us, and have multiple specialty dinners at multiple times, you can just look at your phone and it will tell you on your daily planner.

Yes, I'm looking forward to using the app and hoping it works well!   I have already planned the nights to do the specialty dining, and have one "flexible" night in case my friend has a specific time she likes to eat and they don't have a time she likes around the day I chose.   Thanks so much for all the great info!

I have done similar to you grabbing the snack plates before the scheduled dinner time (especially when there is a later time), on my other cruises. The other cruises I took had so many things bands/activites jam packed on them, I didn't eat as much as I probably will on this cruise haha.
