  1. Me and Jessica are curious to see it this sailing is repeated next year. They only do one a year apparently, may of even just been a one off. Looks really interesting though, since we live in Halifax we could just get off in our port to save on a return flight, making it a 14 day sailing. Don't think we can do it though, it's a long sailing and have other hopefull plans for the fall. But I coined a new phrase, 'book first, think later'. Prices are in Canadian and should be better next week, if they repeat the sailing that is. https://secure.royalcaribbean.com/cruises/15NightCopenhagenToBostonCruise-SR15T079?currencyCode=CAD&sCruiseType=CO&sDateMin=2017-08-01&sDateMax=2017-08-31&crownAndAnchorSociety_memberId=364904184&loyaltyTier=P&sailDate=08%2F26%2F2017
  2. One thing I learned recently is that if you are past your final payment date (deadline for rebooking) you can still upgrade your room for free if you find a better room at the same price as what you paid. After final payment date many people drop out, even possibly a large group. In that case prices can drop dramatically, maybe get a balcony for the price of your interior.
  3. Sometimes Caribbean islands can get repetitive, I think it's good to mix it up now and then. I'm mixing it up by doing the ABC islands down south, kinda the same as normal but really very different. Then it's Alaska in September. Sooner or later we'll have to go across the pond for a change. I really love cruising but after many cheap Caribbean trips I feel we're not seeing the world like we used to. Btw, I live in Halifax and am familiar with St John too, if you decide to pull the trigger and have any questions drop me a line.
  4. I can see why people travel with a kindle instead of books, makes sense. I still like my books though, it is more to pack but I tend to pack lite so it's not that big of a deal for me. Thanks for the book ideas, I'll look them up :)
  5. Tell your friend I find it hard reading in a bar, it's too distracting. Having to listen to people in bad English accents rave about how their drink tastes 'just like Dr Pepper', or the constant ramblings about the fine nuances of a good Scotch.
  6. Iv become a huge fan of reading on cruises and just wanted discuss it. I'm new to reading novels, just started in early October but can't stop. I'm now on my 19th, just averaging above one a week. I spend about 1-2 hours in evening reading and more on weekends (gave up tv). I started to read in order help drag me away from useless time spent on my tablet, I was getting bad. I really enjoy it, you feel much more involved and attached than in movies and tv for some reason. And it's easy, I stick to recent popular bestsellers mainly and they are a breeze to read. For some reason I thought a popular book would be a slow read, not so. Plus after a day of work this involves two of my favorite things, laying down and peace n' quiet. It really mixes well with cruising for me. First there is waiting in the airports and flying, reading makes time fly (pun intentional). For me the main upside is how I hate sitting in deck chairs, way to boring. My wife likes to but I just can't, untill now. Having a book makes deck chairs a great time. It helps me relax and enjoy the day. When on Anthem in December, when we didn't know what to do we just went and found a couch or chair, it was great. If you don't read novels or haven't in many years it's worth another shot. I started by finding books that take place on ships and thought they were great. I'll post some thoughts on the ship based books sometime.
  7. I just saved 33 USD on drink package for group cruise mid month. Then noticed Voom was 80 USD over the 9 night cruise. So I went on to save but ended up spending 50 more.
  8. Building new smaller ships has been debated before, most think it won't happen and if it does they will be under the Celebrity name. Myself, I'd like to see them be built. Small ships offer many things and experiences that big ships can't, less crowds, different ports, better service, ect. One thing smaller ships don't offer is a as high of a profit to the cruise line, so...
  9. I booked a shore excursion through the ship, very cheap, less than 40 per person. When the cruise is over they send you on a tour of old San Juan and the forts, with your bags safe in the bus. Afterwards they drop you and your bags off at the airport. When we considered our down time and the cost for transportation to the airport it worked out perfect for us.
  10. Sorry to hear that all these things hit at once. Hopefully everyone gets better and everything gets sorted out. After this gets settled I'm sure you and your fiance would really appreciate some time alone on vacation together. Best of luck.
  11. I couldn't get on for the longest time before I realized the first letter in my password needed to be capitalized. Not saying that's your problem Rob but someone else might be making that mistake.
  12. I can say iv done this for Mason twice before and he has paid up. It would be nice to see him get the whole fleet.
  13. There is two games, blackjack and slots. Both games give points going towards your profile. In the games they reward you for getting to the next level, maybe in blackjack you would have to hit on 15 ten times to get to next level. In both games they give you gambling points daily incase you run out (I bet big and ran out often). So if you check in daily for the free points and play your cards right you should do good. Focusing on making it to next level is more important than winning points imo.
  14. Surprised to hear that. I played for over a year and cashed them in for a vacation in Vegas last August. Haven't played since. When I first started Royal was a sponsor but then they disappeared and Norwigian appeared. I thought Royal was gone but they must be back.
  15. Im just thinking out loud here, I dont expect that anyting i say will help but here goes. Personally I would rather try the Serenade over the Grandeur, and would rather explore Boston, BUT I would rather do 9 nights. It really is a tough spot. I don't envy your position. Maybe if we can get somebody to explain the differences between the ships it might help. Also when you consider the time in the port city before the cruise you may choose the shorter cruise because of less time off work, even save time to give yourselves a recoup day or two when you get home. By the sounds of things there is no wrong choice, hopefully you choose the one that suits you best. BTW, If you have any questions about Halifax (I live here) don't be afraid to send me a message.
  16. Me and my wife share. My device could be online then she signs in and im automatically signed out.
  17. The thing I like to recommend is not to overplan, you don't have to go crazy doing lots of stuff at every island. When in port I also like to bring a small bag and not overload yourself with things to drag around, it's time to feel free.
  18. Oooor you could drink plenty of water the night before.
  19. I agree about the upsetting but I find it tolerable, much better than on islands. Some people say to bring a highlighter for the cruise compass but I bring a black marker to cross out the sales pitches. I would love to shop on board but the shops are crazy high end to me. As for excursions being expensive, they can be, next time try a independent one. Booking through Royal is good for long excursions where you need to be sure you can make it back in time, but for a short one you can get the same thing for cheaper on your own.
  20. I liked how you said you have a big and a small concern, thinking to myself that the small concern must be country. Then you go on to say that the small concern is a possible lack of activities for teens and the big one was the music :) . In my mind I found that hilarious, but in truth I would find the music a bigger deal too.
