They can't get the slides and bits in place in a few weeks.  It's takes months to manage that supply chain and delivering materials to the shipyard just at the right time.  They'll have their hands full replacing railings and fixing the crane damage while trying to get her into service ASAP to avoid more cancellations.

All they can do is lightweight work like carpeting and upholstery in the coming weeks.  I really don't see them scrapping the AMP and to what end?  If they cut the November AMP short in pursuit of placing it in service early they would have a very short sales cycle.  Trying to book the ship to sail full in November a mere six to eight months away means they won't sell it out.  She normally enjoys a two year sales cycle.  People would see through it and she would remain the old Oasis incapable of fetching the premium she will once she is "Symphonized".

Then she sails into NYC as the old Oasis rather than the new AMPED Oasis everyone is expecting. Or they can't sail into NYC because the stacks aren't modified in November to allow her to clear the bridge.   Then if she goes to Galveston in 2021 she is the old Oasis again failing to meet expectations.

I don't think they will abandon or modify the November plans.  Doing so would be fruitless.

    I believe you !

From what I was hearing RCI was giving a FULL REFUND and an FREE Equivalent Cruise.   Is this true?

From what I have read, the full refund is for the cruise that was cancelled, minus the cost of any cruise insurance purchased.  As far as a future cruise, the future cruise certificate (FCC) will be in the amount of the cruise fare portion only.  So "free equivalent cruise" isn't exactly accurate but pretty close.

I'm not so sure.  That AMP has been all but finalized.  Materials ordered, contracts signed.  To forego the AMPING would fly in the face of what it's doing across the fleet.  In fact one could argue they'll use November to re-launch the "new Oasis" otherwise it remains the wounded duck.

Oh I'm not suggesting that they would scuttle it completely.  I'm just concerned that it might get scaled back.  Hopefully my fears are unfounded.

That "relaunch" idea is precisely what I am worried about !  If they add a few bits and dabs to it now - enough to say "new and improved" then they may not feel the need to do another HUGE dry dock again in October/November.  Oh well...there is no way of knowing until we know.  Worrying won't help not matter what so I will just forget about it !

  4. When I visit a new port I always take one of the "familiarization" type of excursions that is basically just an overall tour of the area.  That way I will know where I might want to go back and visit if I make it back again.  ...but then again, I am not all that adventurous nor that much of a beach person so these kinds of tours are fine for me.  If you are looking for a high energy experience, the familiarization tour is probably going to be boring for you.

  5. The Radiance class ships are very elegant, IMO.  A lot of wood and glass.  Really stunning views.

...but they do lack a Promenade if that is something that you like.  The Centrum is (as its name implies) a "Central" area of the ship that is open to many stories above it.  It usually has an elegant stair case leading from the Centrum up a deck or 2 (of course, ships with Promenades also have beautiful stair cases).  The retail area on a Radiance class ships is much smaller than on a ship with a Promenade.  The stateroom hallways on Radiance class ships are VERY narrow - in fact Radiance class ships, in general, are very narrow (intentionally).  The Radiance class ships were designed and built to navigate smaller bodies of water so they are overall, smaller than some of the other ship classes.

they refused to transfer your onboard credits to another cruise?

Is this a cruise that you booked as a result of the TA cancellation or one that you already had booked ?

If it is a new booking, booked in place of the cancelled cruise I would call back again and speak with someone until you get this rectified.  You should be getting your OBC as well as the cost of the cruise.

If this is an already-booked cruise, I don't know if you have a legitimate claim on this or not....but I certainly would try again.

My Wife brought up a point last night about the Star Class cruisers, they may be able to get another cabin but it's highly doubtful that they are any Star Class rooms open anytime soon, if there is any, the price would be astronomical.

Very true !  Hopefully they will have those rooms patched up quickly.  It doesn't look like there was any real damage to deck 8....but PLENTY of damage to deck 7.

Is it possible you had prepaid gratuities on the first reservation and they didn't add it to the new one?  I have also noticed when I reprice the taxes and fees have gone up but they continue to charge them from the original booking so it is slightly lower than what I find doing a mock booking!  These are the only two reasons I can think of and I doubt it would account for $600 so congrats!

Excellent point.  I always have to tell them to add in the grats b/c they never do.  I HATE paying grats onboard.

Bud, was your cruise cancelled?  I saw they cancelled 3 of them since the accident.  I really hope yours was far enough out that you are still a go.  I have been wondering since it happened.

No.  I don't sail on O until December.  If they don't have her ready by then, there will be waaay worse things going on than we can even dream of right now !

  10. The only place where I think Royal MAY take airline prices into account is San Juan.  It seems that oftentimes the cruise fares from San Juan tend to be just a bit lower than they would be from a CONUS port b/c they realize that mainlanders have to pay significant $$ for airfare to get there. I may be just imagining it....but it seems that maybe they do consider airfare for that home port.

I think WannaCruise has a very sound process.  It requires that you have some flexibility and if you find either a cruise fare or an airfare that you aren't comfortable with, then you have to be prepared to pitch it all and start over....but if you are willing to do that, then I think this process makes a lot of sense.

I had a holiday cruise booked from San Juan a couple of years ago (the cruise fare prices were GREAT for a holiday sailing) but when we saw the prices they wanted for airfare to get there, we had to cancel and start over with a new plan.  Sometimes it just happens like that.

  11. What a disappointment to all.  So sorry to hear it.  Think of how many disappointed people are involved here !

Sorry, Twangster and anyone else that is missing their cruise.  I know there are a number who are celebrating anniversaries and birthdays.  I feel so bad for you.  I know how horribly upset I would be if this happened to me.  Oh wait....it did....a while back....twice... with Empress.  But this is so much worse.  I am truly sorry.

Anyone have any alternate cruise options ?  Different ship....?
