  1. So what's your point? Some nutcase in Dallas took a shot at a plane, so we should gladly sail or fly in to every war zone in the world? My larger point is we should try and be understanding of those that feel differently than us. Calling people who are troubled by developments in Haiti complainers is to dismiss their legitimate concerns.
  2. I think this is out of hand. Whether or not you agree that going to Labadee is a security risk that should not be taken, it is a reasonable position. 3 aircraft have been hit by gunfire in the last week. These direct attacks on Americans are a significant and recent escalation. Many people, who are not comfortable with the situation, are booked on cruises that are past the final payment date. They have only 2 options. Take an uncomfortable risk or cancel the cruise with no refund. A little understanding is in order before we label them as "complainers" and then continue to criticize them.
  3. Looking over the posts in this thread, they've taken on a dogmatic, almost religious, fervor. It's clear that some don't feel comfortable going to Labadee right now and some don't. Neither side is going to change. So I think it's time to move on from this thread.
  4. Idk. Maybe you could have hopped a plane out of Haiti and now you can't.
  5. I was on an Oasis class when a hurricane was forming. It went between cozumel and Cuba while we sailed between Cozumel and the Mexican coast. I figured it would be worse than it was. As far as alternate ports, I don't think there's much when sailing out of Galveston. Perhaps they go to Progresso.
  6. It's also worth noting that a medical emergency while at Labadee would be a major problem right now. If Royal sends you to a hospital, you would have a very difficult time getting home even if you aren't used for target practice. If they kept you on board to go somewhere else, well then you have a whole different set of problems. I like Labadee and feel for the people of Haiti, but I'd prefer to skip it for the time being.
  7. Glad to hear they gave you the OBC. If you have trouble spending it, you can apply it to tips or use a slot machine to cash it out.
  8. I agree. The only issue I've had is on check out. Every time I have to log out and log back in to the website. I'm not sure if this is a poorly implemented security feature or a bug. It's annoying, but that's about it. Fyi: I'm using Microsoft Edge for a browser
  9. I've stayed in room 1814 on Voyager several times. It's an accessible panoramic Oceanview cabin. We love it! The view is incredible! However, it doesn't have much storage space, so beware of that.
  10. I do the same as everyone else, but it has been rejected once or twice. I always responded to the rejection email saying something like this: Thank you for your quick response to my shareholder benefit request. However, I don't understand why the request was denied. As you can see from the attached statement, I currently own 100 shares of RCL. Please correct this mistake at your earliest convenience. Every time the credit was approved within a day.
  11. Talk to shore excursions when you board. I've done exactly what you describe several times. Most times they just tell you to give the ticket to your wife. Sometimes they print new ones. There's never been an additional charge if you do it that way.
  12. I've only done 2 b2b cruises. Each time we received a letter to be in the mdr at about 9am. They checked our passports and gave us new keys. Then we were marched past the on board security so we were "off" the ship. Then we were immediately allowed back through security so we were now on the ship. We didn't actually set foot on land. However, I did the on line check in just in case. If nothing else, that put my credit card on file for the second cruise.
  13. Mr Weatherman, my favorite youtube.com forecaster went through the 4 major models in detail this morning. All show at least a tropical depression, but none show more than a tropical storm. Looks like it will be, and already has been, major rain event, but not much more.
  14. So today I'm using cruise planner and it keeps forgetting that I have a saved credit card. Makes me think that Royal IT is making sure they will have enough glitches to keep Black Friday interesting!
  15. Beltway 8 (yes, it is called the beltway instead of a highway) usually has less traffic, especially on the east side of town, but you pay for it. US59/I69 (same road) carries far less traffic than most other freeways in Houston. Therefore, I'd suggest taking 59 south and either going on I610 east to I45 or take 59 all the way to 45. You'll have traffic, but not terrible traffic. If you really, really want to avoid traffic there are some backroads you can take, but they probably won't be quicker.
  16. I've been following this guy this season and I've been impressed with how detailed and accurate he has been so far. (2) Mr. Weatherman - YouTube
  17. I'm on Radiance and they just installed it. Overall I don't like it, but it would be nice of you're in the room alone, but not so great if there are 2 in the room. I'm going to experiment with bringing magnets to cover it.
  18. It depends on the ship and, sometimes, the specific cabin. You'll have to ask your stateroom attendant. As a general rule, newer ships allow this and older do not.
  19. Captain of Radiance just announced we'll be 3 hours late docking in Tampa on Monday. He explained that some of the navigation aids were damaged by the hurricane and the port is not allowing night arrivals. This affects all ships until it is resolved.
  20. It's a good point. Personally, I put refrigerator magnets from ports I've visited in the past and on the present cruise. Otherwise I'll get something seasonal from Dollar Tree.
  21. I've seen post offices in cruise terminals before. Npt often, but I have seen them. On Bonaire there was a post office on the street just outside. So it all depends on the port
  22. I do the same but it looks like Royal has other ideas. On a recent cruise out of Vancouver, they required check in through the app. App would take a picture but would not allow you to upload one. Another irritation is there was no provision to print your boarding documents. I hope Royal doesn't extend this requirement to other cruise ports, but I'm not optimistic.
  23. In my experience, TA OBC sometimes takes s few weeks to show up, but they always appeared several months in advance. Have you contacted your TA?
  24. I wouldn't be concerned about being a worry wart or anything else. Everyone's risk tolerance is different and there's no reason to feel bad about yours. If you're really concerned, I'd suggest avoiding cruises that stop a Labadee, or at least stay on the ship. For those that are unconcerned, they'll probably be fine. If not, then at least you're safe. I will say this to everyone. If your risk tolerance doesn't match someone else, then follow your judgment and let the others be themselves. We can all be different and all get along.
  25. I believe you can ask air2sea to issue the ticket (it will no longer be refundable) and then call delta to upgrade.
