Lack of port options out of Galveston
steverk replied to TexanTwoStep's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I certainly agree with your sentiment, but I believe Royal is trying to address it. They've even got a name for it! "Port Fatigue" As @smokeybandit mentions, there are some limited sailings that do make it to Coco Cay. There are some repositioning cruises that make it to some interesting ports. For example, on April 30, Voyager will reposition from San Juan to Galveston. That cruise will make it to the ABC islands. One thing that has hurt port variety out of Galveston is the replacement of Liberty with an Oasis class vessel. I regard this as an upgrade, but there are only 3 (hopefully Belize will make 4 soon) ports within a 7 night cruise from Galveston that can handle a ship of that size. Here's hoping that Royal adds a Voyager or Freedom class vessel to the Galveston fleet and starts doing 7+ night itineraries that hit some of the smaller ports. It's not on the list of sailings you can buy, but we can still hope! -
We were in a j3 accessible cabin recently. The sofa folded out to a double bed size. YMMV. This was accessible and I'm not sure the size for a normal j3

I was recently looking at Cruisemapper.com and discovered a cruise port that I knew nothing about. RCI doesn't go to either. In fact, the only cruise line that does is American Queen Voyages. However, that doesn't mean I can't dream! The port is Campeche and it looks really interesting. It is located on the west side of the Yucatan pennisula, southwest of Progresso, so it is a good location for sailing from Galveston or New Orleans. Campeche is a UNESCO site. So what ports would you like to see developed or added to Royal's itineraries?

Water spilling into Central Park on Harmony(?)
steverk replied to PG Cruiser's topic in Royal Caribbean News and Rumors
I'm still wondering how much the new Waterfall suites are going to cost! -
I've got a cruise out of LA in May and looking for best options for my flight. I can get direct flights to either Orange County or LAX. Orange County is considerably cheaper, but I'm concerned about how to get from there to the cruise port. Has anyone ever flown to this airport for a cruise? How do you recommend transportation to/from the port? Is the ground transportation going to be more expensive?

Water spilling into Central Park on Harmony(?)
steverk replied to PG Cruiser's topic in Royal Caribbean News and Rumors
It sounds more plausible until you realize the flowrider is on the back of the ship and central park is midship. It seems to me it had to come from a pool, but wow! I can't imagine a turn causing all of that! -
I agree with this. I'll add the person that hits the door close button as soon as the elevator opens. I've seen this prevent people who have been waiting to get on. In fact, that's the intent. One time I was in an elevator with a woman in a wheelchair. Her floor came up an the door closer guy hits the button. I was able to catch the door so she could get off. Mr. Door Closer was not happy with me though.

allure returns in 2026 All Things Galveston
steverk replied to Galveston Steve's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
On my recent allure trip. The latest Disembark time was about 9. I'm afraid I can't give much advice on airport transportation. I live close enough that I always drive. I can say that distance to iah is about 75 miles.- 965 replies

We travel with mother in law frequently. She's 87 an uses a walker/wheelchair. It's never a problem. We always get an accessible room on the ship.the airlines allow us to wheel her chair down the ramp where they allow her to walk on the plane. They check the wheelchair for no charge.

Departure city for Alaska cruise
steverk replied to chrismelissa's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I'd spend the night in Anchorage and take the alaska railroad gold star service in the morning. It arrives early in the morning so you can take the boat tour of resurrection Bay. If you can afford the time, I'd schedule it to have an additional night in Seward -
What’s a travel product you couldn’t cruise without?

So I'm currently on Adventure and we were unable to stop in Costa Maya due to bad weather and damage to the dock fenders. To compensate, we sailed to Cozumel and arrived about 6:30pm for an overnight stay. Last night, there was a fairly lengthy survey about it. I have another cruise booked on Adventure on January 23. About a month ago, I received an email that Progresso can't handle a ship of our size and we would do an overnight in Cozumel instead. So, is Royal using these 2 cruises to test out overnight stays there?
-
I'm with you, but that's pretty short for an amp. I'm betting it will be a "technical" drydock. That means mechanical repairs and maintenance and not much more.
-
Sounds like it might be time for a change in plans. The alaska railroad offers daily service in addition to the special train you can book through royal. It's a fun ride and really shouldn't be missed.

I've seen tribute bands on every class of ship currently sailing. However, they appear regularly on newer classes than the older ones.
-
True, but a lot of people spend with reckless abandon once on board. And anything spent goes to Royal.
-
It looks likeanice hotel, and it probably would work out on your way to the ship. However, there's major road construction on I 45 that makes access very difficult northbound.
-
I'm not sure about the perk, but I believe 11 is the first check in time. That said, two weeks ago they weren't even checking boarding times. 11am was insane. People who arrived later had a much better experience.

What Will Happen to Smaller Ship Options?
steverk replied to jabberwk's topic in Royal Caribbean News and Rumors
I'm totally with you. I've now sailed on at least one of every RCI class that are still in service. Freedom and Voyager classes are my absolute favorites. Room enough for activities for everyone. Small enough to still be friendly and intimate. I hope RCI creates something similar as they age out. As twangster mentions, there's plenty of reasons why they might not. I hold there are reasons that they might. Only time will tell. -
Royal Caribbean credit card. Is it a good deal?
steverk replied to steverk's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
Thank you to everyone for all the info! -
Forever is a very long time. I'm sure things will improve over the next year or two. I'm just finishing a cruise on Allure. The service has been outstanding. Best I've ever had.

Thanks everyone. I haven't had a chance to study it yet, but will soon. Everyone seems to be in agreement with my initial thoughts though -
Royal Caribbean credit card. Is it a good deal?

I'm looking at the Royal Caribbean credit card. Is it a good deal compared to the Citi Double Cash card?
