  1. Last time I was in Roatan, I booked the Mayan Eco Park through Royal Caribbean. Cost was about $35 per person. I wouldn't call it the best excursion I've ever taken, but we did hold a sloth, monkey and snake. The price was certainly reasonable. It started off with a guided walk about 1/2 mile through the jungle (all downhill, so pretty easy). Then we entered the park. I a lot of ways, it was similar to a zoo. Some animals were in cages. Some roamed free. The guide was knowledgeable and very helpful. After allowing monkeys to climb on us for pictures, we went for a second walk through the jungle. This one went over some hanging bridges, which was a little freaky. Definitely not for someone who is afraid of heights! (you could have waited for the walk to conclude and continued on, but they really didn't tell us that) Once we came out of the jungle, there were handlers there and we held a sloth and snake. Observed some more monkeys and headed back to the bus. If sloths are your thing, then this is a great excursion for that!
  2. In my experience, the airport shuttles are available by calling air2sea. 844-278-9745 I've had mixed success booking the shuttle in advance if I didn't have an air2sea flight on the same day. Good luck to you!
  3. How good or bad this is, depends somewhat on the sailing. For example, a 4 night sailing already has a pretty low deposit and the OBC is pretty small. Therefore, this is not worth worrying about for a short sailing. On the other end, I booked the 14 night Greenland cruise from NextCruise when it first came out. The normal deposits were $900. That's enough I would be hesitant to book it non refundable. However, the price difference between refundable and non-refundable was over $500. No great options. I was able to book on board and received a $200 deposit and a $300 OBC. I think this was worthwhile. One thing that isn't mentioned though. To get more than just a token amount of OBC, you have to book non-refundable.
  4. I was on a Princess cruise that stopped in Victoria in the evening as well. Tea wasn't possible, but they had an excursion to the gardens that had to be booked through the line. Many people enjoyed the nightlife. Overall it was enjoyable. Keep in mind this stop is meant to satisfy the PVSA. It's late because they have a pretty long run from the Alaska ports and want the time to do that.
  5. I'd call your travel agent. You should have this information by now.
  6. I'm D+. Not showing on the app or website. However, my cruise history is there so I think it will work out in the end
  7. The Strand is a fine place to walk around. I've never heard of any issues there.
  8. If it works out better for you, the original Aquarium restaurant is on the Kemah Boardwalk, In Kemah. That's south of Houston, close to Space Center Houston.
  9. I'm flattered you thought of me! I don't know your kids, so I'm not sure what they might enjoy, but here are some of my ideas: Go to the Galveston Schlitterbahn for waterpark fun Check out Pleasure Pier on Seawall Blvd. Go to Seawolf park. They have a WWII Destroyer Escort and a submarine you can tour on your own. You can walk on to the Bolivar Ferry for free. Usually, you can spot dolphins as it crosses the Houston ship channel. This takes about 90 minutes round trip. Moving to the mainland: Check out the Kemah Boardwalk in Kemah TX. (This is about 30 miles from Galveston and about 5 miles from Space Center Houston) Space Center Houston is always worth seeing. Don't miss the difficult to find door that leads to the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft and Shuttle mock up. The Battleship Texas is currently in limbo, but is worth touring if they ever get it open again. At the moment, it is in drydock and they are giving drydock tours (for a hefty fee). It may be your only chance to see a ship from underneath. I doubt the kids would enjoy it, but If you're into really morbid stuff, the National Museum of Funeral History is located pretty close to IAH. (No kidding! somebody really created this place!) I've never been there. You gotta admit, it is unique to Houston!
  10. I certainly agree with your sentiment, but I believe Royal is trying to address it. They've even got a name for it! "Port Fatigue" As @smokeybandit mentions, there are some limited sailings that do make it to Coco Cay. There are some repositioning cruises that make it to some interesting ports. For example, on April 30, Voyager will reposition from San Juan to Galveston. That cruise will make it to the ABC islands. One thing that has hurt port variety out of Galveston is the replacement of Liberty with an Oasis class vessel. I regard this as an upgrade, but there are only 3 (hopefully Belize will make 4 soon) ports within a 7 night cruise from Galveston that can handle a ship of that size. Here's hoping that Royal adds a Voyager or Freedom class vessel to the Galveston fleet and starts doing 7+ night itineraries that hit some of the smaller ports. It's not on the list of sailings you can buy, but we can still hope!
  11. We were in a j3 accessible cabin recently. The sofa folded out to a double bed size. YMMV. This was accessible and I'm not sure the size for a normal j3
  12. Thanks. Unfortunately, the flights aren't nearly as good from Houston
  13. I was recently looking at Cruisemapper.com and discovered a cruise port that I knew nothing about. RCI doesn't go to either. In fact, the only cruise line that does is American Queen Voyages. However, that doesn't mean I can't dream! The port is Campeche and it looks really interesting. It is located on the west side of the Yucatan pennisula, southwest of Progresso, so it is a good location for sailing from Galveston or New Orleans. Campeche is a UNESCO site. So what ports would you like to see developed or added to Royal's itineraries?
  14. I'm still wondering how much the new Waterfall suites are going to cost!
  15. I've got a cruise out of LA in May and looking for best options for my flight. I can get direct flights to either Orange County or LAX. Orange County is considerably cheaper, but I'm concerned about how to get from there to the cruise port. Has anyone ever flown to this airport for a cruise? How do you recommend transportation to/from the port? Is the ground transportation going to be more expensive?
  16. It sounds more plausible until you realize the flowrider is on the back of the ship and central park is midship. It seems to me it had to come from a pool, but wow! I can't imagine a turn causing all of that!
  17. Put me in the midship crowd. Less motion. Closer to elevators. Note that aft facing can be really awesome too. But Freedom class vessels have a structure back there the obstructs the view.
  18. I agree with this. I'll add the person that hits the door close button as soon as the elevator opens. I've seen this prevent people who have been waiting to get on. In fact, that's the intent. One time I was in an elevator with a woman in a wheelchair. Her floor came up an the door closer guy hits the button. I was able to catch the door so she could get off. Mr. Door Closer was not happy with me though.
  19. We travel with mother in law frequently. She's 87 an uses a walker/wheelchair. It's never a problem. We always get an accessible room on the ship.the airlines allow us to wheel her chair down the ramp where they allow her to walk on the plane. They check the wheelchair for no charge.
  20. I'd spend the night in Anchorage and take the alaska railroad gold star service in the morning. It arrives early in the morning so you can take the boat tour of resurrection Bay. If you can afford the time, I'd schedule it to have an additional night in Seward
  21. 220v usb charging hub. Over the door hook for hanging wet swimsuits to dry Magnet clips Hair conditioner
  22. So I'm currently on Adventure and we were unable to stop in Costa Maya due to bad weather and damage to the dock fenders. To compensate, we sailed to Cozumel and arrived about 6:30pm for an overnight stay. Last night, there was a fairly lengthy survey about it. I have another cruise booked on Adventure on January 23. About a month ago, I received an email that Progresso can't handle a ship of our size and we would do an overnight in Cozumel instead. So, is Royal using these 2 cruises to test out overnight stays there?
  23. I'm with you, but that's pretty short for an amp. I'm betting it will be a "technical" drydock. That means mechanical repairs and maintenance and not much more.
