The Effectors: The Origin Story - Icon of the Seas
Jjohnb replied to Atricks's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I noticed that some of the shows are listed as "Complimentary" and others such as the cover bands and adult comedy are listed as "$0.00 / per guest", is this an indication that Royal is getting ready to "Liberty" us again and start charging for some of the entertainment? -

Icon of the Seas has officially left the shipyard
Jjohnb replied to CruisingSteve's topic in Royal Caribbean News and Rumors
It's actually in the dry dock. From the pictures I've seen I can't tell if the dry dock has been drained (ship is out of the water) but I'd assume they wouldn't have tied up the dry dock unless they were going to take it out of the water. I was wondering what they might be doing as well. Whatever it is, I'm sure it was planned and not an unexpected issue. -
Icon of the Seas Retractable Funnel?
Jjohnb replied to JasonOasis's topic in Royal Caribbean News and Rumors
Does anyone know how tall the Icon is (above the waterline) versus the MSC World America (or Europa)? I saw a vlog on new cruise ships in 2024 that claimed Icon will be the largest cruise ship in the world, which is true. But they also claimed the MSC World America will be the tallest since it will be 22 decks versus 20 decks for the Icon. I don't believe you can go by that as deck heights can vary. While all the other stats are available, I've always struggled finding the height of various Royal ships. I'm not sure if they don't release that stat for some odd reason or it's just a stat that people don't tend to care about (until they see that bridge approaching in the distance, lol). -

Everyone is different and YMMV but at least for us you're spot on, we typically use 3 of our 5 daily vouchers. Having said that, this is the single most important benefit that keeps us loyal to Royal.

James Van Fleet no longer with RC

That's great news. Thank you Royal! -
Thanks, that's what it looked like when I sailed Vision last. It's a shame, it really closed in the Centrum, that was a lot of windows/light to lose.
-
The charm of the smaller ships is that they have that classic cruising feel. I'd like it if the Discovery class were to have a very large centrum. As wide as the Sovereign class and as tall or taller than the Vision/Radiance classes with windows to the sea all the way up. Just out of curiosity, on the Vision, decks 7 and 8 in the centrum have cabins on both sides, it's looks like they originally had windows and were open. Does anyone know when the cabins were added? Were they added to all the Vision class ships? Does anyone have a picture of the centrum before the cabins were added? It must have been spectacular.

It looks like you're correct. Vision is supposed to be in Bermuda today, just checked and she's headed to Nassau. Per Royal's travel updates page, there are no itinerary changes at the moment. While I agree with the itinerary change due to hurricane Franklin, the total radio silence from Royal is a bit disappointing. Weather happens, it's no ones fault and a risk you take sailing this time of year but let's be adults and communicate. I miss the daily regional updates from Van Fleet! -

Thank you all for the suggestions. Definitely going to try them.

As an alternative to booking through Royal, we're looking for shore excursion website recommendations. Can people suggest which websites they've had a good experience with?

Proposing on my first cruise?
Jjohnb replied to First_Time_Cruiser's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
I actually did the same thing back in 1991. One thing you want to consider is, although it seems unfathomable, the Allure will not always be around in your and your soon to be fiancées lifetime (I'm assuming you're much younger than myself ). We sailed on the Nordic Empress (Empress of the Seas) to the Bahamas. I chose to propose on the beach at sunset as I wanted a place we could always go back to if we chose. Our ship was either doing an overnight or staying late, I can't recall. We took a cab to Merv Griffin's Resorts Casino on Paradise Island (now the Atlantis Resort) just before sunset to "walk around and have a drink or two" and when we got there we made our way to the beach which was totally empty and I proposed. While RC brought the Empress back once, she is now gone and while the beach has been totally reconstructed due to building out the Atlantis, the beach in essence is still there and one of the most beautiful beaches in my opinion. Funny story, when we got to the beach, my GF was wearing stockings so she didn't want to walk in the sand, I actually made up some crazy excuse to carry her a few feet onto the sand to get that perfect ambiance. Now flash forward 32 years, Nassau is not as safe as it once was and I would not recommend venturing off the ship at or near dark (if the ship is even in port that late) and the Atlantis is very busy these days. I would recommend a nice secluded beach. As others have suggested, CoCo Cay would be perfect. I didn't realize RC now has a special program, take advantage to the "Royal Proposal" program, see if they can arrange for a secluded spot, possibly an area away from the normal guest areas. I'm not sure what the date of your cruise is or what time your ship leaves CoCo Cay, but possibly you could see if they would arrange a secluded spot with a private table on the beach for a late lunch where the sun is starting to set. Whatever you choose, don't sweat it, it will be perfect and she'll love it! Congratulations! -
