  1. That verbiage is likely coming from someone at the CDC. The CDC has publicly stated that ships should not sail until the virus is completely over. I've interpreted that to mean the CDC doesn't want ships sailing until well into 2022 or 2023 when the last remnant of the virus has disappeared which is what I believe the CDC's end game really is. The CDC would be perfectly fine if all cruise ships vanished from the earth. This is their opportunity to create that outcome.
  2. From 2016. Perhaps they added a phone during the amplification.
  3. Think I saw Quantum replace Radiance in Brisbane. That leaves Radiance in question as well if she doesn't head down under.
  4. I was on the Allure March TA which was supposed to be the last cruise before the amplification. She was in great shape, I never felt like there were signs she absolutely needed a refresh. I would sail her again tomorrow if they'd let me. While she doesn't have slides that also means that Boardwalk balconies still have a great view aft without the Abyss slides blocking their view. Still has a Sabor too. Yum.
  5. As a society it seems in hindsight had we taxed some of the oldest professions then some of these individuals would have tax contributions to a far greater extent.
  6. Some of those older ships might be collateral for some of the debt they've acquired. Once Odyssey is on the books they can shift some of that debt and use Odyssey as collateral. Using Odyssey to secure debt is something they said they plan to do once she is acquired but they never linked that to the older ships so we'll see what they do if these ships still aren't sailing in 6 months.
  7. On some ships there are inserts, sometimes half width, sometimes full width, so while it' isn't a full printing press that can do anything a full press shop can produce, it probably also does the MDR menus, pub menus, etc. and it can print off several thousand so I don't thinks it's a fancy laser printer in the CD's office. I don't imagine it's a room full of gear either. The app struggled to be accurate which I think was a resource issue. Towards the end of 2019 and early 2020 they put dedicated crew on each ship to manage the digital content. I think the CD staff simply didn't have the hours in the day to update paper compasses and update the app to keep everything in sync. This led to activities like Captain's Corner being in the app on the wrong day, wrong venue or wrong time while the paper compass was always correct. CK menus were in the app wrong and the CK manager commented how she would have bring it to their attention again, like she has been struggling with that department and getting corrections made in the app. Without a pandemic I would have said the paper compass had a long future but maybe now they'll refocus more energy to electronic guides on cabin TVs and in the app.
  8. "We remain optimistic..." is not committing to a restart. IF they had said "We plan to restart in 2020" then they need language to protect that statement. Read the entire 8-K filing.
  9. I think we need to get well into the future to be able to look back and see how it plays out. Does protecting the elderly through a lockdown just delay the inevitable? Does it create "dry tinder" that will eventually come into play at a later date?
  10. I don't think they need an out in an SEC filing. It's for investors, not cruisers. For investors they remain optimistic they can sail in 2020.
  11. Apex is hanging out with her sister near CocoCay, patiently waiting for the US to restart cruising, along with a number of ships at anchor. ?: marinetraffic.com She may slide into Miami at some point to get mail and provisions. We'll have to keep an eye out for her to start moving.
  12. I'm guessing it's stuffed into a compressed space since it's not something that most cruisers would be interested in. I'll try to remember to inquire if I ever get back on board a ship any time soon.
  13. No comparison. Sky Suites offer a lot more than even a GS on non-Oasis, non-Quantum. To be blunt GS on older Royal ships has never enticed me but Sky Suites on X did when I was merely gold on Royal. It's why I chose X for my first Alaska cruise. Sky Suites were less and you get more. Hmmmm. I could have climbed faster with C&A but chose X back then. No regrets.
  14. I don't think you'd survive well in the cabins I book. Me on the other hand, I could use more suites in my life ?
  15. They have a pretty impressive printing press capability on board. On a couple of occasions I've missed a port or they changed timing for something like going the Panama Canal so they reprint a new cruise compasses for the day and distribute it midday. The CD usually makes an announcement to keep an eye out for it. The weather forecast is usually found on the front page and not something that can be printed a week or two before. The CD staff routinely make changes to events so they pretty much have to be printed on board.
  16. I'm always looking for a cruise mom... adopt me! I want to do both! (I had both booked but...)
  17. Welcome to the message boards! and enjoy your cruise!
  18. If you don't have a problem with your money potentially being tied up in case it doesn't happen AND if you can live with the restrictions and mitigation requirements on board then the smart thing to do is book now before the rush that will occur once anything is confirmed. In the past a Christmas cruise would have seen parades and Santa events. Those probably won't happen. In the past a NYE cruise would have seen a huge party on the promenade counting down to midnight. That probably won't happen. If you are willing to accept a very different holiday experience from past years on board and those changes won't ruin your cruise then you have the opportunity for a great vacation getaway.
  19. You are preaching to the choir here. I'm not convinced the CDC will adopt this line of thinking with respect to cruise ships. Having been overruled they have a chip on their shoulder and potentially a new administration coming in that they can bully to get their way in 2021.
  20. Which ship, what kind of cabins, what ports of call? Both should be of interest to teenagers who are new to theses regions but.... only you know your kids and if these destinations will appeal to them or for what reasons. I have a twenty something that still considers Alaska "meh" because it isn't a sun tanning destination with beaches. One day she will regret choosing not to sail there at no cost to her. Will your kids seriously lose interest or be disappointed if you made a choice and announced your decision to them? I think it's great you are considering them but unless they are paying towards the bill I'd do what you and hubster desire and then find a way to present in a way that they will be interested. "Stubborn Canadian Scorpio/#teamCK/#teamDeck17" - I think you have room for one or two more labels in there...
