Would appreciate any recommendations for visits/excursions in all 3 ports. This is a first time for us at these 3 stops. Traveling with wife, our 2 kids (ages 22 & 24) and in-laws. In-laws can walk & are mobile, but probably would prefer not to have to do anything real strenuous (like lots of stairs or narrow walking trails).

As this will be my in-laws first cruise and stop in parts of Mexico, would also appreciate any recommendations for some really good & authentic Mexican food at a sit down restaurant in Cozumel & Costa Maya 🙂

Thinking about visiting the Eco Sur Eco Beach Park in Cozumel, just have to figure out best way to get the 6 of us there.

Going over x-mas on Harmony.  My wife and I have been to all 3 several times.  This trip, it is with our kids and relatives, and some have some minor mobility issues we had to plan for.  For excursions we chose:

Roatan -- Maya Key Private Island which is perfect because those that want to sit on the beach can do so while everyone else explores the island.  It is kind of like a mini Coco Cay with a zoo.

Costa Maya -- Our least favorite port, but still can be fun.  A group of us are just going to go shopping around the port and the kids are planning on the Dolphins for this trip.  My wife and I really like Maya Chan beach resort, but it is a private booking and not offered by Royal, you would have to book directly with them via the internet.  Maya Chan has good food and drinks, and also has beaches if you want to swim.

Cozumel -- Has a lot to offer.  We decided to do the Ray and Shark snorkel because that's what the kids wanted.  If you want to do the Eco Sur Park, I would just do the Royal Caribbean excursion to it and let them handle the transportation for you.  Also, we sometimes just get a cab and go to the town center of San Miguel, eat lunch, shop, and enjoy ourselves.  The ruins on the island are fund to do once, and we also like the seasonal excursions, like the Christmas excursion (did that a few years ago).

We have always had a good time with the ATVs regardless of which port, and zip lining in Roatan is fun too.  But these are a little more challenging physically and there are age requirements for the ATVs that prevented us from doing them as a group this time.

Hope that helps a little.  Have fun!

It all depends on what you like to do. If you all like an adult beverage here and there I recommend the Tequila Mixology tour in Cozumel. It teaches you hoe to make different mexican drinks and you get a snack as well. Costa Maya we love going to Maya Chan where we just relax by the beach and enjoy their awesome food.

We just got back from a 5 nighter and in Cozumel we did the “Luchadores, Tacos & Margaritas” excursion it was a blast. Definitely not a strenuous excursion, you basically watch some amazing Mexican wrestlers, eat and drink afterwards.

In Costa Maya, we took a really nice excursion to the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins through a third-party vendor that included a really good traditional Mayan style lunch.

(The tour was offered by The Native Choice through shoreexcursions.com). VERY knowledgeable tour guide (college archeology student) and very clean, comfortable transportation. The ruins are truly a sight to behold.

In Cozumel, we took an excursion through RC called "All Inclusive Isla Pasion by Twister", a high-speed twisting boat ride to an island resort that included lunch, open bar, beach, and plenty of beach/water activities. While your in-laws may not want the intense boat ride, there are other, less intense options for getting to the island. Just look for the words "Isla Pasion".

Thanks for the tour company recommendation (shoreexcursions.com)!!!!!!! We've used Viator and a few others, but I really like how you are able to plug in your info and see exact results for every stop.

You're welcome. This has become our go to for third-party Caribbean excursions.

We've done these ports multiple times. In Roatan we did the Turquoise Bay all-inclusive a couple of times. Very sedate and relaxing lagoon setting after a wild 30-minute van ride, drinks are good, though we felt the food was lacking even if presentation was very good. Just don't park in front of the DJ/musician if you want to have a conversation. 🙂 My friend told our bartender "Keep 'em coming" and boy did he ever. Good thing it was "all-inclusive." Gotta watch yourself there. 🙂

Costa Maya, we did the Chacchoben(sp?) Mayan ruins/pyramid once (90 minutes bus ride) so if you've never seen a large(r) Mayan ruin, it's neat and a good informative tour as well. We also did a "jeep (car)" excursion to a private resort once (the roads there are difficult to say the least) and that was ok. You get to see something of the town area. Nowadays we just stay in port. There's a big, thatched roof bar/restaurant there in the middle we always stop and sit with drinks and nachos to people watch. Bunch of stuff to do there if you're interested.

In Cozumel, some friends took us (by cab) to a restaurant down at the Carnival terminal (I know, right?!) called Panchos Backyard. We like it a lot, and there's a sizable trinket shop attached to it. We've done the Mexican Cooking/Playa Mia break (good time) and the Jeeps to the Mayan ruin and virgin beach (food was excellent there, just don't over order!) and several other ATV type excursions also. Bunch of good things to do there. Did the Lucha Libre! with tacos/margaritas - We had as much fun laughing at the crowd as we did the wrestlers jumping about. It's a good one-and-done. We've pretty much done all those we're interested in, so now we just wander the port (extensive but the barkers really work to entice you in), or step outside and wander into town a bit.

Notice all we do are RCCL excursions. There are other great operators here and there, but we are Not going to be the "runners" zipping down that super long pier at Costa Maya and missing the ship! 🙂

Hope this helps a bit.
