ChadwickFrench
Can you still bid through Royal Up when booking a Guaranteed Room? I want to take advantage of the difference on a guaranteed room versus one I pick. However, I would like to potentially still bid on an upgraded room for my cruise. Va4fam
Yes. You can book the GTY room and still bid on a Royal Up.
PL8SWPR
Yes. Just won a bid from a GTY Ocean View on Mariner to a Spacious Panaramic Ocean View (6508 to 1826). I bid $5 above the minimum and got it for $60. FireFishII, Neesa, DoomSlayer and 1 other

You can and it will usually work out the way you would expect. You would eventually get assigned a room of the category you booked but might win a Royal Up to a better category. However, there's a small chance something weird could happen because Royal handles the Guarantees and a different company runs the Royal up program. Your GTY room is for a certain category but the fine print says "or better" if they run out of rooms in your original category. So you could book an Interior Guarantee and bid on a Balcony through Royal Up. Then, something weird happens and you get assigned a Junior Suite! You're thrilled. Then you "win" your Royal Up and you pay to be "upgraded" to a Balcony. Not you're not so thrilled. This would be REALLY unusual and the odds are REALLY low, but I think I read about something similar happening to someone on this site. PL8SWPR
Might then be better to wait to bid until you know what room you are in. I was able to use the barcode trick to find that out before bidding.
IsaPito
PL8SWPR: What is the barcode trick?
FionaMG
8 hours ago, IsaPito said: PL8SWPR: What is the barcode trick? Once you have checked in and have your setsail pass: 1. If you are an Apple user, download the setsail pass to your Apple Wallet, or 2. If you are an Android user, scan the barcode with a barcode-reading app. In both cases, if you see a number on the right-hand side after the hyphen that is your provisional cabin number. It could still change but this is rare. If you see "GTY" after the hyphen it means you still have no assignment.
