Alcohol beverage rules for 20 year old

Recommended Posts

I understand that you need to be 21  to be able to consume alcoholic beverages on board,  at least when sailing from Florida. A friend who was on a cruise last week with Norwegian said their 20 year old son was allowed beer and wine onboard with their permission.  Is there any such thing on Royal Caribbean?

Fron Royal's Terms

The minimum drinking age for all alcoholic beverages on Royal Caribbean International®
ships, it depends on the location of the ship at the start of the cruise itinerary. For ships originating in Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and South America, the minimum drinking age limit is eighteen (18). For ships originating in North America, the minimum drinking age is twenty-one (21). At private shoreside resorts such as Labadee and CocoCay and when in US & Canadian ports, the minimum drinking age is twenty-one (21). We reserve the right to vary minimum age limits without notice where local laws require or where we deem it desirable or necessary. If a guest reaches a birthday that will change their adherence to our alcohol policy, they may visit the Guest Services Desk and on showing their passport as proof of age, their records will be updated to allow them to purchase and consume alcohol.

So sail from the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand or South America, anywhere but North America and they'll be allowed to drink 🙂

Actually in some US states it's legal to drink under the age of 21, with some caveats, even if it's still illegal for them to buy alcohol.

As I said, there are ways around any rule or law if one is so inclined.

I did not know if this “turn 21 onboard” policy.  Interesting
