At home test vs. CVS/Walgreens

For Walgreens do you just drive up, can this be done for 3 people? Do you need to make an appointment?

Need to make an appointment for each person.  Website accepts reservations 7 days out.  You get tested at their drive-thru window.  They will ask to see the email they sent you confirming your appointment as well as your drivers license/I.D.

What LCWind said.

The reason I went with Walgreens was that I could reserve a time slot one week in advance. I went to https://www.walgreens.com/topic/promotion/covid-testing.jsp and reserved slots for myself and my wife. We couldn't get the same time, so I made one for 10:15AM and the other for 10:30AM. We arrived at 10:15 and got both of them done at the same time. I suspect you'd get the same results for three people as we did for two, just get consecutive times if you can't make them identical.

With the Abbot home test Royal suggests they will email the results is it mandatory to download that Navica application also? Can you create the account using your PC without the app? There are three of us so would I have to create 3 separate accounts?

We are sailing 13 June so must test Saturday the 10th and everywhere we usually go has either stopped testing or is closed. Sailing out of PC and driving over the day before, really don't want to test at the available doc in box same day of sailing, my nerves could not take it.

Check your math here, I think you will need to test on the 11th or after if your cruise departs on the 13th.  It is no more than 2 days before for vaccinated people using the Antigen test.  For unvaccinated kids, they need a PCR no more than 3 days before but the E-med test with Navica app you are discussing above does not satisfy the requirement for them either as it is an Antigen test.

Yes! You are correct Saturday is the 11th thank you so much. See I am flustered already & it's not until June 🙂

Ordered my tests (the ones recommended here) & wouldn't you know I located an emergent care that does not advertise testing but when I called they said sure we do it & yes we are open on Saturdays!  Thanks to everyone for the great feedback & suggestions.

I have good luck with the Nomi Health sites for fast and free testing, so if you get in a pinch those could be used. You're in a hole between the sites in Lakeland, Pasco County and Bradenton, but it's something to keep in your back pocket just in case.

Walgreens also tests and the NAAT testing is acceptable.

Has anyone had any problems with the shipping from the company RC recommended using, Optum, to order the at home Covid tests?  I ordered 4 on April 29 and received the shipping confirmation the same day with an estimated delivery dates of May 2-4.  The tracking information has been saying that it’s in transit with a delivery date of May 7 since May 2.  I’m just a little worried that I won’t get my tests in time for my cruise on May22.

Yep, I had problems in January.  But with mine the tracking said that the shipping company never received it.  May 7 isn't for a couple of days, so I don't know that I'd worry about it until that date has at least passed.

Does the cruise ship require paperwork?  We will be in Miami for a few days pre-cruise and won't have access to a printer.  Obviously, we plan to test in Miami.

No, you can show the results on your phone. Just make sure you download/save them to your phone and can easily pull them up without a data connection in case it's spotty at the terminal.

I appreciate all the information on this topic.

I have a question about the Walgreens 'method'.  We will be scheduling 4 tests.  So will we all need a Walgreens account to get the results?  Can I use my e-mail for wife and children, or do they need separate e-mail addresses on the account?  Then, after the results, I can print something out to hold in my hand and carry through the terminal, right?  I don't mind using phone for check in information, I've done it before, but the vaccine stuff has me stressed so I will definitely want hard copies.

You can definitely print out the results after they are e-mailed to you. It can actually be faster to have printed copies of everything (test results, set sail pass, etc.) in your hand with your passport and vax card rather than scrolling through your phone.

I won't be taking the Walgreens test until May 27th so I can't answer the other questions. I'm sure someone else can answer or you could call your local Walgreens.

I don't recall that I needed an "account" at Walgreens, but my wife and I each scheduled separately. I think you need a unique email address for each person so they can email the results of each test. I'm not going to swear to anything, but that's my understanding. We arranged for consecutive times and they did us both together. You may very well be able to use a common email address, don't know for certain.

One thing doesn't make sense to me about the at home testing.   We are four people testing.   Wouldn't we have to get four two-test boxes?  I wouldn't think we could share a box.   Don't they need to see each person open it?  If we counted on sharing a box, it would seem that we would fail the test since some of wouldn't have a fresh box to open.

Does that make sense?

The two-test boxes are just 2-packs of tests, not a box with two tests. You open the outside packaging and inside are two separate test boxes.

Hope that helpts!

YES that helps and saves me lots of money.  Had I not known, I would have ordered us all 2-packs.   Now I can plan better.  I still may order an extra "just in case," but won't order an extra for each person,   Thanks

It might be cheaper to order via emed.com.  YOu should have extra test kits on hand in case something goes wrong during testing.  I've read of people opening their test kits and the liquid was empty or the swabs were missing.  There is also a Youtube video of a guy demonstrating the test when he drops it and it is voided .  Other things that cn void the test:  opening it prior to instruction by the proctor, touching the wrong part, dropping wifi connection.
Emed.com the kits are 6 for $150 plus tax and shipping.  It might ask for 3 names of testing recipients, but it can be used by anyone.  I've done this, no issues.
Also, test kits may be subject to some reimbursement from your healthcare plan, something to look into.

Is this the correct test? It looks a little different than some pictures I’ve seen.

Just getting anxious about this process.

Do you think it’s easier using the Navica app on my phone or emed on our computer or iPad? There will be 3 of us testing.

Thank you.

I’ve used my laptop.  Be sure to have it set back on the table so you have enough table space to work on

I think it's easier to use our ipad. That way, you can prop it up and see it easier, especially when you need to show them things like your ID or the bar code on the box.

You just need a book or something to prop it up against.

  • 4 weeks later...

Can anyone share what information is contained in the negative Covid test results paperwork that RCCL will accept during the embarkation process? I’ve taken a PCR test both at CVS and Walgreens and the one for Walgreens had the lab information with the CLIA# on the document but the one from CVS had the basic information of the results, location of testing, date, time of testing, my information and the type of test. Wondering what will pass as an acceptable form of documentation. Thanks!
