Have you thought about getting two connecting rooms? Parents in one, the kids in the other. Of course, that depends on the ages of your children, but, something to consider.:27_sunglasses:

Lol! @rjac that's what I originally started with!  But then I couldn't bring myself to go 8 nights without CK so we upgraded to a Family Junior Suite when they had Kids Sail Free.  But I want back into Sky Class and the kids don't want to share a bed...first world problems, I know...

  2. Ok...to all the frequent suite cruisers out there...I'm trying to figure out if this is a good deal or not....

Suite prices did drop on my Anthem of the Seas sailing (March 9, 2018/8 nights).  There are 4 of us going.  2 adults, 2 kids.

Right now, I can get a Royal Family Suite (2 bdr, 2 baths) for $6409USD for all 4 of us.  Is that a good deal?  I don't even know because I have never booked that class of suites nor have I ever watched prices for that particular class either.  All I know it that the exact same room was about $1000 higher last week and normally you need at least 6 to book this room but they will allow 4 of us in it.  It is a March break sailing and it is for 8 nights....

  3. Lots of good details from @twangster...wanted to add that JS access to CK is for dinner only (still a great perk as I am also a huge fan of CK). Grand suite and above get all day access. Also, while you do get priority boarding with the JS, you do not get priority disembarkation.

Are they worth it?  It all depends what type of experience you are looking for and your reasons for booking a JS. If you are looking for a bit more space, a small upgrade in dining, or wanting to collect C&A points faster then it is worth it maybe depending on the price difference between that and a regular balcony room.  However, of you are looking for a true suite experience then this is where the JS is lacking a bit. Royal had 3 suite classes: sea, sky, and star. JS is in Sea class and does not get many of the amenities that Sky class and above receive. So you are sort of getting a suite while missing out on many suite perks.

Hope that helps a bit more too. Any other questions don't hesitate to ask. People are great here ?

@Sabrinaklai.....it would be weird NOT to see a tip jar at the local Tims...maybe it is a cultural thing without getting too much into that topic.....but I was so surprised when I would visit a coffee shop and they didn't have a tip jar as I said.

This topic has prompted me to do a quick Google search....

Not sure what kind of conclusion to draw....

Interesting....as I always thought we tipped more than Americans in a lot of cases.....I remember the days when there was NO tip jar at Dunkin Donuts which I thought was weird as here in Canada if you don't tip at your local coffee shop its frowned upon and has been the case for as long as I have been drinking coffee(however with more people using debit to pay it is changing).

Even more interesting is that maybe it varies different parts of Canada?  @monctonguy I had to read this twice to make sure I read it correctly the first time.  Born and raised in Southern Ontario, I always assumed we (Canadians) tipped less than Americans and I am surprised when I see a tip jar at the local Tim Horton's.  I find this gratuities topic very eye opening....

And @rjac, @WAAAYTOOO, and @DocLC they had the WOW envelopes on Harmony in August.  We used a few of them to give extra to a few crew members.

Any idea as to why my online check in still shows "in process" even though we have uploaded security photos, answered all questions and printed security docs?  Also printed luggage tags.

I wouldn't worry about it.  Our cruise in August said that right up until we left.  Checked in fine once we arrived.

To add on to the OP's question -- If you do book a guarantee room, how quickly does Royal actually let you know what you got? I think I've read some stray posts here and there saying that people booked Guarantee rooms and got their assignment as fast as that week or maybe even the next day, but what's considered "normal"? My impression with this room class was always that it's saved until the ship has had enough regular bookings to fill the balance, and then you get your room assignment; that sounded kind of risky to me (like, you could inside cabin right under the dance hall), but it sounds like they don't really wait all that long and you could still get a room in a fairly good location.

Does it make more of a difference with the room class? More risk with an inside cabin, much lower with a suite guarantee (just because the Jr Suites are [nearly] all midship and at least on a mid-level deck away from noise / obstructions)?

There's still some risks with the Suite Guarantee....You could be the deck right under the pool deck (some people don't like that with the sound of deck chairs etc.) or you might end up near Adventure Ocean :2_grimacing: That's more risk than I can handle lol.  In all seriousness though...I think it does make a difference and a suite guarantee does come with a little less risk.

Trying to get the lowest price promotion for friends for an upcoming B-D cruise in April 2019...wanted to know if the best deals would be February 2018 or if they can find better ones 6 months before the cruise (OCT 2018)  My fear is that the cruise would be sold out if I have them wait too long...

    Thank you!

I agree completely with @monctonguy.  The last few years we book our cruises more than a year in advance and then check prices daily. I have only seen prices rise. Rarely does it go down. You can get your price readjusted anytime before final payment. I've saved a couple hundred here and there that way. The only time I have noticed a considerable price drop is aboit 4-6 weeks before sailing but your friends probably don't want to hold out that long. So book it and watch it.

CK Dinner Menu and nightly WJ recon

I have always wondered if the CK dinner menu remains the same on all the ships that have CK. So far your last two nights are the same as it was on Harmony. Thanks for posting those. And kind of embarrassed to admit that after all the RC cruises I've taken I have never made it to the WJ for dinner. After seeing your pics I will definitely have to do WJ recon next cruise. Those desserts look so yummy ?

  10. I don't think it's a matter of "floodgates" opening.  From my own personal experience there are some cruise lines out there that offer a Military and Civil Service discount.  You have to provide documentation to show that you are a government employee to qualify.   Teachers happen to fall into that.  I would think that doctors, nurses, etc. would qualify also as long as they are government employees.  Royal does not do this but some of their competitors do.

I know the recent RCI promotion is ending soon...when does RCI normally do these promotions?...I think I remember around Christmas time and in February....

    Thanks,

Depends which promo you are referring to. If it's the instant savings one then like @rjac said they seem to roll in into another. If it's the free gratuities for suites and kids sail free promo then I believe those end tomorrow. I don't know how often they run free gratuities. To be honest I don't even remember the last time they did it. KSF tends to pop up once every few months from what I have noticed. They just did it in August and then it came back in October.

I agree. At 7 pm, you will be considered the 2nd seating for that table. I'm not sure how much time they allow per seating and turn around but 7 might be tough...7:30 might be easier and hopefully whoever sits at your table first doesn't linger after dessert.  My Harmony cruise in March, available times for 6 are 5:30 to 6:15 and then 7:30 and later.  There are no times available between 6:15-7:30 because they know the dining room will be full from the first seating.  Generally speaking the dining room is full by 6:15/6:30 for first seating and then you just need to wait for tables to clear which should be anywhere between 7 to 7:30. Just keep checking around 180 days but there are plenty of tables for 6. You could take a reservation at 7:30 and show up at 7:15 and hope your table is ready by then. MTD is great but just be realistic about how MTD works and plan accordingly.

I noticed the same thing for MTD for Harmony and Anthem.  I was able to catch dining when it first opened up for both cruises and the times between 6:15-7:30pm were unavailable right from the start.
