First of all make sure everyone is on airplane mode so they do not connect to the ship cellular.  I also turn off the roaming on my phone.

Second:  when you get on the ship you can select the ship wifi from your cell phone.  It should automatically load the ship page that asks if you want to connect to the free wifi or the paid wifi.  You should select the paid wifi.  the next step will show how to pay and one of the opions will be your paid package.  Next it will ask you to select a user name.  I just set that to my last name but you can set it to anything your family will remember.  Then it asks for a 4 to 6 digit password. Then you are connected.  When you connect to the ship wifi and it does not load the connection page go to the ships app.  Select the right most icon of the three on the top; the one that looks like a little man.  About two thirds of the way down you will see the option to connect to the internet.

You will use the same user id and password for all three connections.  it keeps track of how many devices are connected.  If your family is switching between computers and cell phones make sure they sign out or it will tell you all three are taking and you will have to tell it to disconnect one.

Airplane mode on, however that may turn off wifi too. So you will have to turn on airplane mode and then turn on wifi.

  2. I could never understand the pricing or get it to work for me when mock booking. Example, booking adjoining rooms. I would book room #1 with a price of say $1200 per person. Then book the room adjoining to it, same class of room mind you and it would be $1700 pp.

My advice, work with a good reputable travel agent. They will find all the deals and the best prices.

My husband and I are taking children and grandchildren (15 total) on an Alaskan cruise.  At the current rate that would be $1,890 in gratuities.  We have 4 cabins.  I would prefer to pay per cabin at the rate of 2 adults per cabin.  How can I adjust the gratuities?

So, you have more than 2 people in each cabin but you "prefer" to pay gratuities for just 2 per cabin? I mean I would prefer that too, but gratuities are based on a per person rate, not a per room rate.

  4. 1) Chair hogs, obviously.

    2) Financial penalties for parents who put their non-potty trained pooping kids in a pool.

    3) wow bands for free

    4) Free internet

    5) Transparent pricing with Grats incl.

    6) more food later.

    7) more bar venues on the promanade.

8 bring back the cigar lounges

    9) get rid of boarding times, they don't matter anyway.

I am sure I will think of more.

  5. Just got off Symphony with a 10, 13, and 15yr old. They all had a blast and had plenty to do

The 15yr old was off in the teen club with many others the entire trip. We basically only saw him on port days

The 13 yr old was in teen club or the pool and she spent probably 50% of her time with us the other half with ppl she met in the club

My 10yr old was with us about 80-90% of the time. Mostly in pools, hot tubs, hanging out on the board walk etc. She went to adventure ocean several times and enjoyed it every time. My wife thought she wouldn't have fun in adventure ocean, but she really did. It made her feel independent being with other kids and away from Mom and dad

Advice, get internet package to txt with your kids.

Don't try to plan too much, just go with the flow, they will find what they like.

Don't poop in the pools... Apparently it's a thing on Icon, let's not make it a thing on Utopia.

  6. We have several times brought a few WJ items in Ziploc bags off ship. Doughnuts, cookies for the kids etc. don't think you're supposed to, but when traveling with you kids you do what you have to do. Now, your talking about taking off a full picnic lunch, that may get someone's attention, or not. I would stay away from fruits and veggies as they are most likely to contain bugs of some sort. I would think breads, cookies and the like are ok. Don't try to bring left overs back on though.

I assure you, these are official recipes.  Unless the guests ask for some tweaks in the drink, bartenders should do their best to follow the recipe. Unfortunately, many of them feel like they're doing the guests a favor by adding their own spin to the drink.   The beverage manager on one ship knew of this project of mine and so he asked me, "Are my bartenders doing it right?  You're the right person to ask."

The official recipe calls for Bacardi Superior, not Bacardi 8.

Royal uses the Sunsational Tropical Mix for the Labadoozie (aka Coco Loco).  Not sure if this has changed, now that they use Finest Call for many of their cocktails.

I tried making the Desert Pear Margarita with homemade desert pear syrup.  I wasn't happy with it.

Then I tried it with the REAL puree... still not happy.

So I had to order the MONIN syrup that Royal uses

Well how did it come out with Monin?

  8. I am a bit suspect of some of these.... I made a "Papa Jac" with Bacardi 8, passion fruit and lime and it wasn't close to the same thing I was served onboard.

I really want to recreate the Labadoozy, but finding papaya puree is a chore. Also, what brand mixers is RC using, because it will make a huge difference.

My next experiment will be the desert pear margarita... It was a favorite of my wife.

  9. I was there with you Leroy... Great cruise, great weather, seas were dead flat for 5 of the 8 days it seemed. I would agree, hairspray is long but wonderfully produced.

Wait staff were amazing and all my special requests for my 2 rooms were taken care of with haste.

I will say on this trip I felt a bit more disconnected from the goings on. I barley heard from the cruise director about what was happening, when and where. Maybe it is just the advent of the app that makes it different then it was in the old days. Back then they used to announce everything that was happening. I am certainly not complaining though... Less announcements are better. It just felt different this time.

I will definitely be back on an oasis ship, they are wonderful.
