BBC is a source i trust more than many others which is not to say its 100% factual either as the world of journalism is driven by gaining attention.

There is a table in the article breaking down odds by age/gender/other health condition.

The BBC over the past 10 tears has become a shadow of what it used to be for factual journalism, they have become a puppet of the government and the rich / influential. their political team have a free reign to say whatever their government sources leak them, with no traditional checks and balances ie. obtaining credible  confirmation before publishing.

Starting to get serious! If this keeps up, Royal will be banning Californians by the end of next week.

Call me a cynic, I wonder now that the financial markets and the virus has possibly reached the US will we see the media all of a sudden down play the seriousness of the virus, it played into  many hand financial & political to create a panic especially as it was centred in Asia.

We are currently book to sail out of Singapore in April and I'm starting to stress.  I know all of March has been cancelled,  When will Royal talk about April.  On top of that we have non refundable tickets would the airline allow me to change those tickets.  What to do I just don't know

The Word is we should know about our sailing out of Singapore on the 30th by 4th March ? We're  in the same position, didn't use a travel agent and all elements booked separately including hotels. Credit card and insurance should cover all eventualities I hope.

My view is no point in worrying about it, whatever will be will be its only a holiday. I ours is sailing I going.

As long as you booked using North American rules, absolutely YES !!!  You can definitely reprice your cruise BUT you will not get a refund for any $$ that would represent a savings.  The good news is...you will be in a much nicer cabin for the same money.  Have the Travel Agent do it for you or call Royal and have them take care of it.  Great sleuthing !!!

Welcome to the blog, BTW !

Any idea if this applies in the UK also.

Thinking too narrow....in the US at least it is being used to drive mob actions that have negative economic implications and created negatives for the current administration for the sole purpose of impacting the upcoming elections.  No matter where you fall in the political spectrum that is troubling.....and that's about all I'll say about it.

Oh yes, its a worrying trend all around the world and yes we should be very afraid.

I'm not being positive or negative.  The data has been poor or else the "facts" wouldn't be all over the place. I have less faith in the facts and figures of other countries and I'm already skeptical of our  own countries information. If you want to be hysterical, that's your prerogative. When I  become more convinced maybe I will be too. The jury is still out for me. I get the same misinformation you do. Sorry if it's difficult for me to interpret.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ this site looks to have accurate info - like you my feeling is the media is over hyping the situation. Looking at the figures the rate total of new suspect cases world wide is on the decline {when I checked yesterday}.

In my opinion the web based news media are using the virus as click bate and TV media and Newspapers are not much better.

    1. Whats your favorite thing about cruising? Relaxation, seeing parts of the world, the food, the party?

Definitely seeing parts of the world that I didn't think I'd have the chance to, mostly because of the cost. That's closely followed by the food and wine, the people I meet on board (especially at the MDR where we always ask for a shared table), and a chance to truly step away from all the hustle and bustle.

    2. If you could go on a cruise, anywhere in the world, right now.....where would you go and on which ship?

There are several HAL itineraries I'm dying to go on, but the current "if money and vacation time were no objects" cruise is a 37-day Spitsbergen, Iceland, and British Isles Explorer trip on the little MS Veendam. Multiple stops in Norway, the polar ice cap (Svalbard), Iceland, Scotland, Great Britian, and Ireland.

Sorry to be picky "Multiple stops in Norway, the polar ice cap (Svalbard), Iceland, Scotland, Great Britain, and Ireland." Scotland is part of Great Britain - Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland & England are the 4 nations that form "Great Britain" at the moment, for how long post Brexit is any ones guess.

Northern Ireland & Wales are amazing countries to visit and you are more than welcome. ??

It's not just Royal Caribbean that operates in this manner in the UK, compared to the US.

No arguments here, I was not having a go at RC per-say, comments on the board said that it was consumer law in the UK that prevented it, so was just making the point that it seems that consumer law forces re-price in the US and it was RC {and probably others} policy not to apply it universally.

Its was just disappointing to realise this when I was watching out for a price drop and finding its application refused, It wont stop me enjoying my trip or stop me booking again.

Isn't the lack of UK passengers being able to reprice was a matter of law as opposed to policy? Just like in certain regions, the gratuities are part of the fare paid and cannot be separate.

Hi, I'm not sure its law in the UK that stops them applying a reprice policy. I cant find any reference to any law that prevents repricing after a reservation is booked, in fact have done exactly that for hotel reservations in the UK previously. I think its more that US consumer law actually forces companies to apply an adjustment when requested buy the client.

I don't think they do it out of the goodness of their hearts.

PS. Something I've noticed though is that US prices{via a US VPN} are slightly higher than UK prices which is very unusual for most commodities. Perhaps this is how RC compensate for repricing in the US.

Hi @[email protected]! I have cruised quite a bit in Asia in the past few years. You're right to be confused about the offerings -- things change all the time here as Royal adapts to the growing market here. So you're looking at Quantum sailings from Singapore, correct? If so, yes, the ship is currently configured with Coastal Kitchen and sailing in a Junior Suite will get you the ability to make dinner reservations there. It would be handled like My Time Dining in the MDR -- you can book by stopping in at the restaurant or via the app for each night. Depending on the demographic of people in the suite, CK will actually be pretty empty and you won't have trouble getting in.

The JS cabins are beautiful and prices tend to be cheaper in this region than elsewhere so it is a good time to try them out.

I'm happy to answer any questions I can!

Excellent news, many thanks. Just hoping the 30th April trip goes ahead.

Quantum when in Singapore does offer some Sea/Sky benefits but it's really hard to understand.  GS has Sky, OS gets nothing (no CK at all).  Odd.  When the ship moves to China there are no Sea/Sky benefits.  At no point does Quantum offer Star Class.

Quantum has a CK, Spectrum doesn't (silver/golden instead).  Quantum moves between China home ports and Singapore, Spectrum only has China sailings.

When booking a Singapore based cruise it does state that JS comes with CK dinner access on Quantum.

Grand and Royal Loft suites don't even get CK access:

    Exclusive For Suites

    • Priority check-in and departure lounge
    • Concierge Club access
    • VIP seating at the pool deck and theater
    • Priority tender tickets
    • Complimentary luggage valet service
    • Luxury spa bathrobes
    • Complimentary pressing service on formal night

Thanks for the reply, never sailed RC before now I'm more confused than ever.

  12. Hi, I'm thinking of upgrading to a Junior suit basically I fancy the use of Coastal Kitchen for dinner. We are due to sail out of Singapore on the 30th April and terminate at Beijing therefore does the exception stated below apply to this sailing {I know we might not end in Beijing with all thats going on}.

"Sea Class Exclusives* (not applicable for China and Hong Kong sailings)
    Dinner at Coastal Kitchen
Royal Caribbean Classic Bathrobes for Use On Board
    Luxury Pillowtop Mattress
    Luxury Bathroom Facilities by L'Occitane
    And more"

Also if the use of Coastal Kitchen applies is that any time during dinner or is their an allocated time.
