  1. This information is only based on you, the cruiser, cancelling. I believe cruise with confidence ends on Sept 1st, so those who had cruises scheduled before then will lose nothing and have the NFD converted to FCC. If you have NFD and a cruise scheduled after Sept 1st then you are subjected to penalties for cancellation. Which is a usually a $100 per person cancellation fee and the rest sent into FCC. So if the deposit is $250, you would get $150 in a FCC to be used...therefor you will lose $100. IMHO if you aren't sure, do not pay the balance as it will just lock in more money.

  2. @Balsam That's a fallacy in its self because.....none of the destinations are US based. I can only speak for myself but I love to hear different perspectives. I cannot recall anyone speaking negatively to non-USA cruisers. We cannot deny the fact it was started by an USA citizen but @Matt still educates us in the blog about everything RCCI related. It might seem biased because our experience, as a whole, is only with the North American side of RCCI operations.

  3. With a refundable fare you are entitled to a full refund as long as you are not within the final payment threshold. This is in regardless to cruise with confidence, as cruise with confidence is primarily a FCC program and will offer no cash like refund with the exception of port fees, taxes and gratuity. With cruise for coincidence you can cancel up to 48hrs of certain sailings and receive 100% of the fare in FCC. As opposed to when you normally would be penalized the $100 change fee and the rest being turned in to FCC according to the penalty. The cruise with confidence program is not a mainstay and not valid on all sailings. There are plenty of threads that go into more detail, so you should scroll through the topics and any other questions will be answered.

  4. @Chadster Given that the border restrictions have been extended another 30 days...Also NYC and a few other states have extended Shelter in Place orders to May 29th,  I cannot see any cruises leaving before July, plus that June itinerary is under the 90 days. That means you would lock in your money, then be forced to wait as RCCI cancels. I am not saying cruising out of Florida and maybe Texas won't be back in June because it probably will be, as they are anxious to get back to the status quo. Just that in 60 days I expect we just, might be, finally opening up restaurants.

  5. I have always been of two minds when it comes to corporations. If you started your company, didn't get into any illegal or moral trouble....I take no issue with large CEO salaries and bonuses. I take issue with companies like Carnival, who got a new CEO that is making bank while illegally dumping. I take issue with the CEO of Disney choosing to furlough their employees until possibly 2021 in order to save $500M a month.....when this company brings in billions. On one hand we expect the market to do well because that affects our 401ks, IRAs and other investments. On the other hand we want that company to value their employees and consumers....costing those gains. I understand these times are unprecedented but this catch-22 has brought out the worst in people and businesses.

  6. When I read that article I couldn't do anything but laugh. Because it is nothing more than a rehash of old news set to a bias, scathing, badly contextualized theme. It lumps all the other lines in by causally mentioning them, tarnishing cruising as a whole. I cruised on Carnival about 14 years ago, there was no "washy, washy"...I heard there still isn't and they are not the cleanest in other instances. They were negligent to continue to have ships out, after March 15th, and they deserve any and all punishments for that. But be careful of the narrative...cruise ships are floating cesspools the same way airplanes, museums and indoor venues are.

  7. Well based on the plan T*&^% has passed down, we can look forward to scaled down everything. I do believe a lot of companies will place a stigma on cruises, which sucks because those same companies won't be doing the same for amusement parks, concerts or air travel. I don't know if it will be the same as @J-Fitz outlined but I think it will be tests and space. Right now the CTA, Chicago transit, is all about space. No more than 15 people on a bus that normally holds 40+ and I feel like that will go for cruises. Maybe half pax capacity but only if testing data is available. I wouldn't be surprised if they make you take temps and provide starting 15 days before embarkment. This thing is here to stay and if we want cruising to come back something is going to have to give.

  8. I can believe a lot of us had it already but didn't suffer grim fates or were incorrectly diagnosed since underlying conditions attribute to death. I traveled to Connecticut and Seattle in Jan for almost 3 weeks on business conferences. The first week of February I had the "flu" and it lasted almost 3 weeks. I was sick for a week, 2 days after I felt great and then a days later I could barely walk. I had bad pains, couldn't eat and had a high fever..it even hurt to breathe. I later read that all of my symptoms can occur with the virus. Then in early March, when things had progressed,  one of the lawyers actually got COVID, from another lawyer who happened to be asymptomatic. I stayed home when I was sick in Feb and the other guys went to work, none of us had been on cruises. We did fly American, United and Spirit more than 8 times that month.

  9. Hmmm....maybe RCCI  thinks it might be able to adapt. They haven't had as much negative press as other lines. Maybe they plan to cruise to their private island on a specific itenirary. I mean look at the current situation....how many people are not following the orders of 6 feet apart by still attending church, throwing parties, going shopping everyday? Considering how new this is, the unlikelihood that it won't reoccur, and the lack of solid information. It could stand to reason RCCI might be rolling the dice like so many other people are......or they are too sad to make the announcement.

  10. I am also a John from MEI client and he recently saved me almost $300 on my Jan Mariner cruise. It is very nice to not have to constantly check the price, although I still do?. I want to applaud everyone from MEI who continue to provide great service. Whether it be dealing with tons of questions or just providing us with hope that we will all be sipping Lava flows in the near future.

  11. I would like to say please do not turn this into "lets blame RCCI for being a business and quoting op-ed pieces" like every other thread. I merely wanted to know about the bonus, thankfully @Matt posted about it on the blog. I cannot for the life of me understand why people go to pro-related blogs to complain. This is something positive that a company is doing in a very unprecedented time.

  12. Amend here's the regular refund for FCC**

    Non-Refundable Deposit Fares

Outside of final payment, when a non-refundable deposit cancellation occurs, you will receive a Future Cruise Certificate in the amount of their designated cruise deposit, less a $100 per guest change fee. Such Future Cruise Certificates can be applied towards your future Royal Caribbean cruise vacation when reserved within 1 year of the issue date. Thereafter, the Future Cruise Certificate will expire and becomes invalid.

  13. I will try to answer this to the best of my abilities. I am sure more people will help.....

If you know you want to cancel, it would be much better to NOT make any final payments. Since that would tie up your funds and because RCCI did not cancel the cruise you would be subjected to any fees. There is no way they will give you a refund with a nonrefundable deposit, it is imho a waste of your MILs time to even try. The FCC would be given to each passenger listed. However, I am told people have had success by removing a passengers name so they can get the FCC in their name only.

Now keep in mind the FCC for your September 27th cruise would fall under standard RCCI rules because it is past the cruise with confidence date of September 1st. You need to refer to your cruise contract.

  14. Cruising is a leisurely paced activity, which is why the CDC and public opinion is coming down so harsh. Are the medical facilities at WDW or any amusement park up to par for an outbreak? How about on Airplanes? The fact that you travel in a confined space for 3+ days is the issue. Given the rate of infection and death rate, it is unfair for there to be such a huge restriction on cruising. So issuing a 100 day no cruise order is just silly. At this point all these articles can only be taken with a grain of salt. Until they get a handle on this virus, the fear created by media outlets won't subside. There is no need to make it criminal to cruise...on the other hand you still have people gathering in churches, shopping without need, and throwing birthday parties with 100+ people.
