Oasis class ships (someone correct me if I'm wrong, as I have not been on any) have free standing Starbucks, and none of the beverage packages (DBP/Refreshment package) will work there.  From the terms & conditions: Specialty Coffees do not include any beverages served inside licensed Starbucks® stores/cafes

The other ships have "for sale" Cafes that have specialty coffee drinks that use Starbucks brand coffee -- and the packages are good there. If the coffee card is like the other packages, then it will be good on ships that DO NOT have a freestanding Starbucks.  I believe, if there is an actual Starbucks on the ship, you can use Starbucks gift cards, but again, I'm not positive about that

    Correct

I think that it's surge protectors that are prohibited. The strip I bought https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LXLUM0L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is described as being "fully cruise compliant." It also calls itself a "charging station" as opposed to a power strip, which it actually is. Do you think it will be prohibited?

Then you'll be fine.  Power strips are prohibited.  Charging stations are ok.

  3. Basti, don't book anything even though it shows things available in the cruise planner.  The Genie will take care of everything for you - all of your dining reservations, entertainment...everything.  Just show up ready to have the time of your life !

I don't know what your itinerary is, but if you are going to Coco Cay and decide that you want to rent one of the cabanas or bungalows, this is the one exception to my rule above.  In the "old days" the Genie could get a cabana/bungalow for you without a problem - in fact, Star Class had first chance at reserving these items -  but since Perfect Day the Genies no longer have any control over cabanas and bungalows.  So if you want one of those, DO book it ahead of time.  The Genie will help you with it when it comes time, but they can no longer guarantee you a cabana or bungalow like they used to be able to do.

Is Johnny Rockets included when you have the UDP?

It varies by ship but most ships that I have been on include JR in the UDP.  Most of the time the UDP also covers sodas however, shakes are not included unless you also have the DBP.

You're welcome, I had to go back and edit as we did in fact eat in the MDR on Deck 5 for embarkation lunch.

LOL.  Ok. I wonder why since you had so few.  Trust me, there was PLENTY of room in the restaurant.  We remarked at how empty it was.

I believe those were all the passengers who’s cars were in Miami.  They helped the people who flew into Miami but left the people who drove in to fend for themselves when they dumped them off in New Orleans.

I just don’t get whey they wouldn’t keep the ship at seas like Royal did and then bring the people back to their original port? I mean seriously ........ the ship STILL has to go back to Miami for its next cruise

Ah....  Well that still doesn't make any sense.  Like you said, it's not like the ship was going to pick up a new load of pax in NO and sail them around....

...and when you think about it....they were willing to fly those people into Miami into a hurricane... even though the ship couldn't sail into Miami.  Pretty awful all the way around.  I know that it turned out that Miami was unaffected by the hurricane but they didn't really know that at the time....

We only saw maybe 30-40 people eating lunch with us and on disembarkation during breakfast about the same.  I have no idea how many bought the package but it wasn't crowded at all.

Thanks for the intel.  I think the Key sales must have been pretty light for our sailing.

you need to get tickets for the RC shows, is that accurate?

There are no "tickets" for shows.  On some ships you can make reservations for shows, but it is first come, first served and there are no reserved seats, per se.

What ship are you sailing ?  Only the Quantum class and Oasis class ships have show reservations.  For all the rest of the ships it is first come, first served with no reservations at all.

i just got off of Liberty with the Key and it was fantastic!  I noticed that there were not alot of people at the Chops Lunch

We wondered if maybe they had moved the Key lunch to the MDR b/c we were there (UDP) and were surprised at the small number of people there for embarkation lunch.

  10. Have you checked airline prices yet ?  Make sure you factor in airfare to SJ before you make any decision.  Depending on what time of you year you are going, the airfare to SJ can be significant.  The southern Caribbean is really beautiful and for a first cruise, I can't imagine a better itinerary.  But I also agree with Matt that the amenities of the Oasis class ships are unmatched anywhere.  You didn't mention whether or not there are children going on this trip.  That could make a difference, depending on the ages.  For teens, I would definitely recommend the Symphony with all of the activities.
