  1. Hello all.  Although I'm still a ways off from booking my first cruise... I (continue) to enjoy these

message boards & you very kind folks.  Here is a quick question regarding the beverage packages...

This is assuming the following parameters:

---> Sail out of Miami, and return to Miami

---> 7-night cruise to the Caribbean

---> Aboard an OASIS "class" ship

Let's assume it is the DELUXE DRINK PACKAGE.  The one that is $63 - $70 per day.  And, please

let me know if my question is too wordy (or sounds strange, lol).

From what I read, a cruise out of this port will leave at 2:00pm usually.

From what I read, disembarkation must be done by 10:am usually.

OKAY, so a cruise such as "this" will be EIGHT chargeable days for the drink package.  Correct?

Or, am I way off?  I ask this, please, to get your feedback... if it is "so", then there are (basically)

limited hours that you're physically aboard the ship to do the booze drinking on Day 1 and Day 8.

..... Also, can a person buy the drink package for less than eight days.  I'm guessing no, but just

wondering.     THANK YOU!    Matthew in LV/NV.

If you did not book prior to sailing on the cruise planner and would like to book spontaneously during sailing i recommend what i did below:

you can save some money by hunting down those specialty dining salesmen that walks around the windjammer asking people if they're interested in buying. Most of the time they find you when you don't want them to but in your case you'll have to look for them.

I saved more money going through those "salesmen" that actually going directly to the restaurant itself because they kind of 'negotiate' pricing and are able to lower the price or even increase the incentive of booking through them.

    Nice.

  3. On the Oasis Class ships... I would like to inquire:  For the "free" dining spots available to cruisers, what is your experience with them being popular/crowded?  As I ask this, I'm wanting to know are there certain ones that LONG LINES?  DIFFICULT TO FIND A SEAT?  Was there a situation (or several situations) on your cruise in which you wanted to eat at a place, but just gave up?  Thank you for the feedback.

Let me begin by saying that I really like eating... A LOT!  One of the main draws of cruising for me is the food.

My question is how tacky is it to order multiple servings of the food on the menu?  How many orders of the cocktail shrimp? The escargot?  How many main entree orders fall in embarrassing territory?  I thinking you’re getting what I’m driving at.  How much is too much?

If you were at the table next to mine, how would you feel if I ordered (and ate) A LOT.

How would I feel about it.  Will LET ME TELL YOU how I would feel.  I would offer an abundance of encouragement.  You have paid a lot of dough for the cruise.  If you wanted to spend 9 hours each day at the pool, then do so.  If you want multiple plates of a certain dish, or a wide variety of different entrees... you should certainly go for it.

A vacation is a time to indulge & overindulge.  I tip my hat to you.  In fact, if your table at the MDR has an extra seat -- may I have it?

General Lee Speaking .. I mean, generally speaking, I will often skip lunch.  So, having more than "usual" makes sense to me at supper time.

Listen, if you use a napkin, you're okay in my book.

  5. Myself... if I'm drinking... It's often going to be a blended drink (or something mixed, etc).  Personally, I like a drink for the FLAVOR of mixed fruit juices.  Not so much for the REASON of becoming drunk.

If I have one (or two) ... I'm fine.

If I have a third, I start to feel a bit of a buzz.  Just depends on how fast they're being served.  And, how much booze is in there.

If I have a 4th/5th... then I know I'm basically on the border of becoming vulnerable.  It's a valid point.  Being able to walk, being able to hold (and, remembering to hold) the railing of a stairwell.  Remembering what my room number is.  Bumping into people.  Etc.  The slurred speech.  I guess we've all been there.

    Okay, i'll be quiet.

  6. I'm certainly no expert... but, it is a good question.

I think a revealing "sign" would be when the person is becoming AN EXPERT on any/all subjects.  Their voice is getting louder and louder.  Or, maybe, he (or she) has decided that any person within nine feet "deserves" a hug.  And, they're hell bent on furnishing "that hug".  (smiling here)

Anyhow... I have to agree with Mr. Candyman... using a level of discretion is probably helpful.  Like I said, it's not my place to choose what action they "should take".  But, how about these suggestions:

---->  Staff offering them a water.  Staff suggesting "It's a long cruise, we all want to pace ourselves my friend".

---->  Uniformed security staff stepping in.

Sorry, like I said... not my place to "say".  But, just my two cents.

We also treasure our ocean view balconies. In addition to your everyday peace and quiet (assuming your neighbors are being respectful) it's also a great place to watch sail aways. It may depend on which side you are on.

But here is great tip, one for which I can't have the credit and don't remember who posted it first. Go to Deck 14. Walk all the way forward on the port side. There's a door there that goes out from the bridge, overlooks the helipad and gives an amazing view. Plus, there are some very comfortable chairs and plenty of loungers in an area that many people don't know about (well, they do now). There is also a glass door after you get in there that is goes further over the side of ship and is totally open..warning--take off you hat first unless you want to lose it. Bring a drink and a book and relax away!

Skid.. hello there!  Thank you very much for the ideas.  :)  Appreciate it.  I can see where an OCEAN balcony would be amazing.

+2 Balcony.  For us, we only cruise 1x a yr because we won't cruise without being on a balcony.  We love it for so many reasons, but our very favorite is breakfast.  You can have a continental delivered for free (only cost is the tip) on your balcony.  We usually will go up to WJ and get an omelet and hash browns to go and bring them back to our cabin so as we show up with that food, they are delivering the continental breakfast.

I have to say, that sounds pretty fantastic.  I'm a fan of hash browns.  And, baked potatoes.  Oh, and French fries.  Garlic fries too.  Mashed is very acceptable in my book as well.  Ahhh.  :)

I've seen on some rooms (cabins?)  (suites?) etc... have a larger balcony -- sq. footage I mean.  It looks like all of them have at least a single chair and a table, too?

+1 on the balcony and Central Park (day or night).  If you have access to the suite sundeck, that place is also very calm and quiet.  Oasis class ships disperse crowds really well.  I have yet to feel crowded on one (except during embarkation and when shows let out).  @Skid recently blogged from his first time on Oasis class and in his final thoughts, he makes comments on how well the crowds are handled.  Have a read through that one too.

Okay... I will have a look at it.  Thank you!!
